I knew you were over-exaggerating :P I remember complementing her before on the last pic, and that one dude came in here hating on her eyebrows of all things.

No, that's Revas. I love Revas, and that guy can go suck a*******

I mean the new one.

Ah yes, forgot about that. Thedas is pretty much going to get swallowed up by something, one of these days... I mean, the blight already threatens to every time it comes, minus that pansy art teacher Urthemiel, lol. What a diva.

Maybe they exploited this power in their absence and it got out of control. But lets not spiral out of control again with blight speculation....

Unless you all want to  feel free. I of course like the blight being of the old gods, and them being something greater, but I think it's more likely that the old gods too tried to control the blight, not actually create it, and they probably became something greater thanks to it, like corypheus, and whatever really created it is still out there.

I like that idea better personally. And the other elven gods didn't let themselves be twisted by their "parents" power.

I live for Blight discussions spiraling out of control!

You just gave me this random idea of the Old Gods being the Creators sealed away by Fen'harel. They could barely access the Fade in their prisons, but they eventually found a way to the Void and took on the power of the Blight in an attempt to repair the 'sundered magic and power'.

Hrrm.

We do know that Elgar'nan battled 'his parents' for control of the world. If there is a power that the ancient elves were exploiting, perhaps it came from whatever beings they were?

There's also the dragons too. Maybe they controlled Thedas at one point, until the elven gods swept in and usurped them.

I find it interesting that Elgar'nan is called "eldest of the sun", and the Chantry appears to symbolize the Maker with a sunburst everywhere.  I half expect the "Sun" and "Maker" to be some primordial High Great Dragon God somewhere.  (The eighth dragon?)  Of course, we'll never really know.

I'm curious, because I've seen many people state that Flemeth will live on in Morrigan. How do you know this? The OGB isn't canon and neither is Morrigan drinking from the Well, so she can be entirely free from any influence from Flemeth. She is her child, sure, and somehow her actions seem to be serving her mother plans too; but I'm not so sure she has a wisp of life from her.

(I'm honestly curious, I have the feeling I'm missing something)

Dev notes for that scene say that the essence that Flemeth sent through the mirror before Solas arrived was her god-ness (I don't want to say 'godhood' due to being firmly on Team 'The Gods Are Really Powerful Mages' so 'godhood' doesn't sit right with me).

Add in the ancient human pyramids aligned with the 'Sun' constellation in Par Vollen...

:)

Humans have their Creator figure abandoning them because he's disappointed.

Elves have their Creator figure abusing his wife out of jealousy, only for the kid to wrestle him for an eternity and then put him in the box of shame.

Dwarves come across as thinking they've just always been there with the Stone. A steady line of tradition.

It's always fascinating to see how culture and religion interact. :D

He seems to believe in the power of the elven gods and/or their followers, if not their divinity. As Head Honcho of the Cult of Dumat, I imagine Mr. Sethius Amladaris was privy to the dirty little secrets of the Imperium. Including how much they learned from Arlathan.

Being familiar with all the lengths he went to protect his own temples and secrets and power, he would be very wary of dealing with the Temple of someone whose empire was the model Tevinter based itself off of. He seems to be getting a lot of his information from the Orb. If it was able to tell him about the Sentinels, I imagine it had a great deal to tell about Mythal at her height.

At first, I was in the 'Cory would fall easily to the geas'. But entering the Blight into the mix, if he is under its geas, that gets a lot messier. I think it would end up with the voices refusing to tell him anything because they can't quite overpower him.

Though it's probably hard to take up this 'cautious when it comes to elves' stance since Cornflakes took the Nameless One's reincarnation abuse approach to breaching the Temple's defenses.

Not necessarily~ if you go to the Arbor Wilds side camps you find a note where the Red Templars are all pissy they weren't chosen for the honor guard instead of GWs which suddenly makes sense in the face of Corphyfish surviving the melt-your-face-off magic at the temple. He was def bringing GW because of the blight tainted blood so he could body jump. More like he's not really that clever and tends to prefer the brute force tank and spank approach to problem solving  :P

In the fade you can find a journal entry about a guy witnessing the first blight coming. He was in charge of bring tributes to Dumat and saw Dumat alive and well, but then there was a period of time when he couldn't find Dumat during his trips, and later when the first blight started he recognized the corrupted Dumat flying down a market. I think this suggests that the Old Gods were around quite a while after the Elven Gods were gone.

That's what I meant by the Nameless One reference. :D If you can resurrect indefinitely, why not min-max it?

I love the little rivalries between the Wardens, Red Templars, and Venatori. Especially the note in the Hissing Wastes where the Venatori complain about Alexius failing in Redcliffe, and how the Templars love to remind them of that.

Oh and there was another entry about Cory tried to speak to Dumat about the spread of the "Maker" belief but was unsuccessful, and then he used the blood of almost all of his elven slaves to power his entry to the Golden City in order to find Dumat. At that time Arlathan must have fallen already.

I like the old gods a lot so I'm okay with this too, lol. So long as they are more than what they appear. I'd hate for them to be such pushovers.

I bet we could get clues from the Cthulu mythos. Cthulu had a sort of calling himself that worked a lot like Corypheus', and the Reapers also obviously had the same thing, plus their stupid hivemind starchild idiot. Cthulu was the child of Nug (LOLOL) and Yeb, where most people assume he's just this all powerful being, but he's not even one of the strongest in the mythos. So if Bioware's following that pattern and they continue to make mass effect and dragon age similar, you can bet they're more than just the dragons that have been getting their asses handed to them by wardens and griffons for ages.

If the old gods have an entity in charge of them, it better be cooler than starchild. I'm still assuming that one with many forms in the elven ancient text is it.

Time to take another character all the way through the game, I suppose.

I just wanted to say I love reading/participating in theory discussions on this thread.  Even when I don't agree with someone or they don't agree with me everyone is so civil.  I don't usually get involved in these kinds of debates because they usually descend into name calling and all caps shouting matches.  But not here.

I love you guys.  *sniffles*

I don't like her too much, tbh. Especially compared to Revas. But that's also in big parts for the hair. That hair style is so boring, that's just not you.

So either you start over or you wait for the black emporium.

I've been trying to figure out WHEN the old god dragons disappear. With the codex of the First Blight eyewitness, is it safe to say that it's been less than a generation between their disappearance and the magister's ritual?

To me, this is the biggest indicator that old god dragons are not the Forgotten Ones or Pantheon themselves. (What connection they DO have, and I am convinced there is indeed a connection, I can't really say without more info.) The timeline makes no sense. The elven god would need to be sealed before the fall of Arlathan, and there is 500 years between the fall and the ritual.

Another interesting thing about the claws of dumat codex is that the old gods stop talking to the general populace (enough that the people start to lose faith) yet the man who becomes Corysticks is constantly speaking to "Dumat" in his dreams.

We could begin shouting and calling each other names, if you like. I can't guarantee it won't be all compliments and affectionate epithets though.
I'll start. How dare you come in here with such a pretty Fade rift avatar and such...such insight. How dare all of you be so awesome, for that matter.

I don't believe the Old God dragons were physically appearing to people, they were communicating through dreams.  This is why the old Neromenian dreamers gave rise to the cult of the Old Gods in Tevinter.   Mythal is also known to appear in dreams, which seems to be a thing common to the elven gods, and the ancient elves in general.  And in that one codex, I didn't get the impression that the man had ever seen Dumat personally, but was simply familiar with the shape of Dumat as a worshipper.

Besides, you are wrong. And the others are wrong, too. The whole topic is wrong.
