I have this gut-feeling that Solas will be a non-villain antagonist... if that makes sense?  I don't think his true intentions are going to be made CRYSTAL clear, and that ambiguity, that "grey-area" will cause him to look like the bad guy.  Part of my crazy brain likes to think him and Merrill will get linked up, too.  ELVEN GLORY!

I'd like this. Maybe he could even be the villain we thought we were fighting against, but then it turns out there's a bigger bad that's actually been pulling the strings, and then we have to team up with him, the Inquisitor, Hawke, and the Warden to defeat it.

What? If Solas can dream, then so can I!

I for one would disagree with derp Solas... okay so he gave his orb to Cornflakes, but we are wholly unaware of the precise circumstances in which that happened.

On the other hand look what the the guy has done… Re the old gods and the nameless ones.

As regards future screw ups perhaps it would be better if we all reserved judgement.

I agree. I think this goes to Sable's comment that sometimes circumstances are just out of our control. I don't think Solas has ever done anything without thinking it through as much as possible.  There was likely a very logical reason he gave the orb to Cory.

I think Solas' failings is in that he's a bit blinded by his own smarts and thinks that should be enough to take control of the situation, when the world is just going to do what it's going to do whether you like or it or not. Solas - though a god - is still at the mercy of fate and circumstance.

Unless they are an elf, there's a good chance an Assquisitor would be like:

Solas: I am Fen'Harel.

Assquisitor: Yeah, I have no idea who that is.

Ultimately though, I think the player character will probably succeed. Just because of the nature of how games are played. So if you do want to go the route of being Solas's enemy, I'm sure they'd allow you to do so by either killing him or destroying his plans.

You have more confidence in BW than I do, I expect it to go something like:

Solas: I am Fen'Harel.

Elfquizzy/All Qs: ...Who?

Oh I feel the same way. Just practice and use lots of references! Your art is your own  :)

So, so true! Thank you for your words :-)

I dunno.  Hawke did a lot of things in DA2...and I'm not sure how many of them counted as "succeeding."  :D

Personally, I liked the deconstruction they did in DA2, the idea that sometimes even an extraordinary individual can fail.  Yes, in terms of the narrative, there wasn't a lot of player control over the events of the game.  Leandra always dies, the Arishok always goes nuclear, the mage-templar war always ignites.  But it made for some really, really interesting roleplaying reacting to all the crazy s*** that happens to poor Hawke.  I kind of miss that; the Inquisitor is more of a classic hero, and that's great, but I miss how DA2 shook up the formula, so to speak.

I miss that too about DA2; I like how they subverted the idea of success and heroic feats, Hawke is able to achieve the impossible but that doesn't make the world any better. But the player "succeeded" in that he was able to complete all the missions, gain power and end up with the LI if that was the choice. I think that's the same type of success the player will have in DLC or DA4 (sans LI maybe, because you know devs need their daily dose of tears), independent of what role Solas will play.

I'm half-convinced they will break their new protagonist rule for DA4; probably it's just wishful thinking as any excuse for such a huge organization as the Inquisition suddenly disappearing will be lame (and also I want to see what's the Inquisition role in a world without Corypheus)

You know, I'm almost convinced of this as well. They seem to have considered keeping a protagonist previously (and that would indeed be Hawke), but the reception of that game may have nipped that in the bud. However, Inquisition has had massive success and many accolades attached to it.... I think that while there's merit in keeping to what the team has stated they'd prefer to do with the story, it isn't a stretch that plans could change if suitable/necessary. If nothing else, it would be a bit silly from a narrative standpoint for the Inquisition, its hero, and his/her powerful armies just to disappear.

For all its faults that is something I really liked about DA2. I wouldn't want that every time, but it was a really refreshing stance. I know a lot of people hated that they couldn't be the all-decider in the story, but I thought it made for a better narrative. Also, to be fair to the writers, there is no way they could have had Hawke either stop the war or let the war start unless they hopped way into the future in DAI where that decision didn't matter anymore.

On that note, I actually liked the idea of having most decisions made in DAO and DA2 be touched on with war table missions. There is just no way they could have had a butt load of dialogue that talks about every decision made and I'd rather them do the written war table missions than none at all.

I have a similar gut-feeling. Why else would Weekes say he took every opportunity to humanize him? It just wouldn't make sense to me for him to return as big nasty evil that MUST be destroyed. I am not %100 certain that he will be an antagonist though. I'm leaning towards that direction, but not totally there. I could see him maybe having to team up with the Inquisitor (under full disclosure of him being Fen'Harel) to fight something worse (Elvehn gods?). This reunion could be friendly or not but would be necessary.

As awesome as that would be, I have an extremely difficult time seeing us in Tevinter for some reason. Surely part of what Dorian (and Calpernia) represented was a "softening" of the Tevine; they are not all *wiggles fingers menancingly* evil magisters. However, from what we've been told, the place is intense. If we do go there, I can't help but think we'll be following a protagonist from the Orlais/Ferelden region to up the novelty factor...and why not the Inquisitor, establishing a new power base, you know?

Well, time to scour the Fade, apparently. Never found that entry.

There's a burned out corpse standing at the foot of some stairs. Click on it or the book at it's feet and a rage demon spawns. Kill that and click on it again to get the codex entry.

Like the Dohvankiin in Skyrim, the Inquisitor is KIND OF a big deal.  Hawke was fantastic, the Warden too, but I can't see them dismissing the role of the Quizzy so readily.  The mark, in my mind, makes them far more unique than the others, add to that being leader of the new-world-order, I see there being a lot more important work to be done.  Plus, I NEED TO SPEND ALL THIS POWER ON SOMETHING.   <_<

Hey the Inquisitor is still suffering from amnesia from the explosion at Haven! It's not her/his fault she/he can't remember who Fen'Harel is. Poor Inquisitor.

Hahaha.  I want to say so bad that Dorian would totally stick around as much as possible, but a part of me feels that he'd flee at the last second.

Ok, so what if you could play some sort of fabulouslessly dressed Tevinter magister?????  Magical monkey friend included -
