I'm half-convinced they will break their new protagonist rule for DA4; probably it's just wishful thinking as any excuse for such a huge organization as the Inquisition suddenly disappearing will be lame (and also I want to see what's the Inquisition role in a world without Corypheus)

On one hand, I adore both my quizzies and want to play more of them (though after mods and patches, I'm sick to death of some of the problems in this game).  On the other hand, they could just relocate DA4 to northern Thedas (Tevinter, Rivain, etc.)

That way the devs can acknowledge the very divergent worldstates possible at the end of DA:I ("Hey, did you hear that Divine Victoria restored the southern Circles?") without actually having to show any of it in-game.  Sort of like what they did with the war table missions and all the little decisions from the previous games.

Hahaha.  I want to say so bad that Dorian would totally stick around as much as possible, but a part of me feels that he'd flee at the last second.

Ok, so what if you could play some sort of fabulouslessly dressed Tevinter magister?????  Magical monkey friend included -

I know they reused some resources for portraits in The Last Court, but isn't the one on the right the one they used for His Dour Lordship?
...I never knew he had a monkey wrapped around his leg.

You know, I'm almost convinced of this as well. They seem to have considered keeping a protagonist previously (and that would indeed be Hawke), but the reception of that game may have nipped that in the bud. However, Inquisition has had massive success and many accolades attached to it.... I think that while there's merit in keeping to what the team has stated they'd prefer to do with the story, it isn't a stretch that plans could change if suitable/necessary. If nothing else, it would be a bit silly from a narrative standpoint for the Inquisition, its hero, and his/her powerful armies just to disappear.

I hope they don't do it. To each game its own story and own hero. The Inquisition has no purpose after Corypheus is dead, so if it sticks around, there should be negative consequences to having an army that has no allegiance and no purpose other than to perpetuate itself.

God, I don't even want to contemplate if they'd forced us to play Hawke again. I'm pretty sure I'd have skipped the game entirely.

I kind of want to see Solas as a villain now just to see how you'll react to it

No, no, no, please no. I can't even cope with considering this. Just no.

@Siha and @ColonelKillabee: You asked for a nude Lavellan. YOU ARE GETTING AN ART HISTORY LESSON.

NSFW Lavellan if art history offends you.

Spoiler

Gatsi has a great explanation of this piece for you:

When Inquisitor Lavellan liberated the slaves of Tevinter and made Dorian Pavus Archon, he commissioned a portrait of her and the head of her elite ancient elvhen forces, Abelas. It now hangs in glory at 20 feet in height in the grand hall of the Magisterium.

The Odalisque style was chosen by Lavellan herself specifically for the irony - odalisque paintings typically represent the lowest members of society on display for the spectator. Her choice highlights the paradox of Tevinter’s fall to an army led by the very race it subjugated for years and claimed to have destroyed. Moreover, it was a deliberate act to negate the claims that the Inquisitor/ Herald of Andraste was the sweet, virginal bride of the Maker in one fell swoop.

As an art historian, I can state with absolute certainty this was meant as an incredibly unsubtle “**** you” to both her enemies and the Chantry cult that formed around her. Likewise, it was meant to crush any attempts at manipulating the Inquisitor into a political marriage after the war. If you can’t pick up on the reasons why, well, maybe you’re just blind.

Dorian concept art.  His concept art included a freaking babboon. When I saw that in my Art of DAI book - I was so upset.  There are just...so many things that could have happened with that monkey.

I'm pretty sure we're going north to be a warden again or to right wrongs in Tevinter either way the south and the Inquisition won't have much influence there.

Scout Harding might make a cameo appearance if she's not a companion though.

As awesome as that would be, I have an extremely difficult time seeing us in Tevinter for some reason. Surely part of what Dorian (and Calpernia) represented was a "softening" of the Tevine; they are not all *wiggles fingers menancingly* evil magisters. However, from what we've been told, the place is intense. If we do go there, I can't help but think we'll be following a protagonist from the Orlais/Ferelden region to up the novelty factor...and why not the Inquisitor, establishing a new power base, you know?

But that intensity's why Tevinter's going to rock. I want to see the empire's seething underbelly from a native's point of view, or at least someone close, like a Tal-Vashoth or a dwarf trader

I wouldn't mind  it from this perspective either, haha. There's a good chance I'm 100% wrong (I'm awful at speculation and forum-ing in general), but when I think of it from the narrative perspective... It's usually easier for writers to approach these things as an outsider when it comes to a wholly "new" society, which is why it's seen as such so often in fantasy and science fiction. I'm all for the intensity that is Tevinter, haha~

I disagree. If focused, the Inquisition could yet accomplish many things. It could be used for rebuilding, for maintaining peace, to research the orb and it's power...the list continues. It both could and should find purpose. There's basically no way to dismantle the inquisition anyway, not without putting a ton of people out of jobs.

Agreed and out of likes.  I really was just not interested in revisting the world with that bozo.  I enjoyed my time playing as sarcastic!Hawke and do replay it for shits/giggles but I felt no pull to the story/world with him/her.

Like you, I enjoy the switch up.  They can certainly wrap up the Inquisitor's story meaningfully in a few DLC as the Inquisition dismantles and the Inquisitor moves on.  I mean part of the lesson the game tried to teach us is that these long-time, over-reaching organizations eventually fail.  The Inquisition can't last.  It's too powerful.

Hey the Inquisitor is still suffering from amnesia from the explosion at Haven! It's not her/his fault she/he can't remember who Fen'Harel is. Poor Inquisitor.

I'm gonna headcanon that that's the reason why my Lavellan can't remember who Mythal was, even though she has her vallaslin emblazoned on her face. :P

This. I know there are people who would love to play their Hawkes again but for me? No friggin way!  <_<

But I wouldn't mind playing my Quizzy again in the next game though.

I agree with you. It would be extremely difficult to dismantle the Inquisition at this juncture, and I believe it's telling that one had no option to do so at the end of the game. While it's certainly possible any incoming DLC might address this further, it might not be possible to be rid of the Inquisition as such. Removing it from power in the near future could cause a great deal of political instability, particularly in Orlais. We might see it re-purposed and renamed, however. While powerful organizations may misstep stumble and fall, they're a staple of society...well, since society began.

Aww I would love to, I'm in the same shape. I play on xbox one though.
If anyone xbox console players ever want to though...

I'm on XBone under the same name as here if you are looking for nonjudgmental (as in I suck) party member. I've had tons of fun playing but let's just say combat is not my strong suit. I do have everyone unlocked, though, so I'm flexible in putting together a group.
