I don't want the inquisitor back. She's a doormat to me. I liked my kind diplomatic Hawke best. Much better voice acting too. I was almost shocked how much I prefer femHawke when I saw her again in DAI. Of course she doesn't look anything like she did in DA2, but just that voice... made me all smiles and nostalgic.
Bioware should stick to the formula of introducing a new protagonist each game. Makes sense for Dragon Age. Comes at the expense of character development. But I prefer consistency.
Quite frankly, I don't care about any of the DA protagonists much though. It's the companions that get me emotionally invested.
Different player perspectives are always interesting. I'm a bit of the opposite . . . I connected much more with my Warden and Inquisitor than Hawke because Hawke felt more like Bioware's character than mine. I had more room to develop the other protagonists with my imagination. I'm a fiction writer, though, so that just ties into the way my brain works.
As for being attached to the NPC's, I am to an extent. To Solas, certainly, and Dorian, Cassandra, and Cole. But I've never been that interested in Morrigan or Leliana, the favored characters who get most of the narrative focus. So . . . for me, a lot is riding on this elven god plotline (and/or possible Tevinter stuff). I would have totally skipped playing DA2 if I hadn't liked DAI so much (and I'm glad I didn't, because DA2 was much better than I'd expected).
