Are there any other Theodosian groups that we hate besides Orlesians?

I understand that some people aren't fond of Tevinter, though I can't possibly fathom why. Blood magic and slavery are so in this year!

The Dog Lords of Ferelden can't possibly be hated. They're called Dog Lords.

Kirkwall is...is Kirkwall.

And I know I've seen a few with hatred for the Qunari. Like, say, Solas. :P

I really want to see Nevarra.  Their death worship fascinates me.  I just imagine Nevarra City to be  this crumbling and sadly beautiful Eastern European city - sort of like Budapest - with the Grand Necropolis sort of looming over everything.

Obviously I want to see Tevinter because Rome.

I really would love to go to Par Vollen.  I think the Qunari are fascinating.  It's not like we haven't had sympathetic Qunari characters.

I believe it's at this point I smile blandly, and then viciously gossip about your taste in shoes and the distinct lack of gaudy sequins in your giant hair-do with Leliana. :P

Damn! I need to find that camera!

Patrick Weekes ‏@PatrickWeekes

Okay, future readers, I SUGGESTED I might kill a character, and @KarinWeekes put her crazy-cold hands in my armpit as a counterpoint.

Let it be Sera. *prays to herself* I don't want anyone else to die D:
>_< Oh Patrick....

<snip>

I'm honestly just ... bored of Fereldens. I'd rather play people from a civilization that showers and doesn't smell of dog and has a reasonably colorful culture (I'm sorry British culture isn't that ... interesting to me at this point). For all of its failings Orlais is at least distinctive (I also have a thing for decaying from the inside out gilded civilizations)

I am so offended!

We must recognise that we have seen a lot of Ferelden compared to other cultures we might have remaining thirst for. I imagine Dragon Age began in Ferelden due to it's simplicity (medieval england... pretty simplistic) and that starting point gives us reference for comparison when encountering other cultures.

(And if we never encounter another french accent in game, my english blood will be content <3

Personal anecdote: I've been talking to my grandmother about her (welsh) mother who used to frequent a church on the Black Mountains (more hillish than mountainish) which worshipped the dead in the hopes of raising them! I was impressed

Not the place but in the area:

Orlais' little fancy pants hoity toity society is hardly distinctive. We could just generalize them as the french and stick them with that trope, though I find the real life french to be a loooot more interesting that Orlais... they know how to play "The Game".

Thedas needs more barbarism.

It offers more dynamics I think~ (though I'd love to see Nevarra and Antiva) Plus there's something so romantic about "The Masked Empire"  (I wish there was more King's Landing to it though~ squandered potential sigh)

Ferelden is so stereotypical played out in every fantasy rpg British-stand-in-with-unwashed-peasants I can't bring up the motivation to really care. Would it be the end of the world to have a human PC that isn't Free Marches/Ferelden? (accents I want accents even if they're corny)

Ahhh, pheww :D

Well, it's not like I want her to die, but if I have to go by exclusion.. then it would have to be her :(
But nevermind, if it's about the novel then thank the Maker!

Lol I don't think either of us can say Ferelden or Orlais isn't stereotypical ;) Dragon age in general's a bit generic when you get down to it.

Avvar and Chasind, they're who I want to see expanded on. And Nevarra as mentioned already. Cass' culture

Ah~ sorry I didn't mean real Britain specifically necessarily - more how so much of the fantasy genre uses this kind of British medieval setting. I'm Chinese American, so I suppose part of that biases me into being really tired of the dominant fantasy setting and wanting to see a larger and more inclusive world, even if it's simply within the context of Europe itself (Eastern Europe, Russia, the Balkans, come on) We honestly see France (or pettybackstabbery Orlais) so much less relative to British-standins that I have an absolute preference for the former.

In retrospect - I don't think I'd find countryside Orlais that much more interesting either haha~ I just love the court intrigue. WEWH was my favorite main quest <3 (maybe it's just me. maybe there's something terribly terribly wrong with me)

Do you think he was referring to his book though or DA?

I'd guess he's talking about his book. Unless it was a very minor DA character, I don't think one writer controls who lives and who dies. That's probably more of a joint decision. [In Dragon Age, that is.]

Pour moi, the difference in presentation between Orlais and Fereldan was jarring--considering their real-world referents. Fereldan felt medieval. and then you time skip to Enlightenment era France Orlais.

Also, I have an irrational hatred for all the pastel used in Orlais.

What Orlais needed was to feel dangerous. I wanted to see the blood underneath the manicured nails.

And instead, we got people practicing how to feint, which I think says everything that needs to be said about Orlais.

That's what killed it for me. They managed to be inept, callous, and toothless all in one go.    It was like trying to fight with a particularly feisty kitten.

I have to admit one of the most amusing things for me was walking into V.R. and just seeing a randomly stabbed body on the streets and two people just looking at it and talking about the weather. What I think they needed to do for Orlais was make your war table missions tie in more deeply to the WEWH plot and build in some encounters with opposing bards during the quest maybe? The use of cut scenes during that questline was really frustrating - it really broke the flow and felt super heavyhanded. The problem I think is more one of execution though - Orlesian court has so much potential for amazing questing and politicking.

Well a bunch of servants got murdered in the Halamshiral mission, don't they count?

I'm not sure what you mean? I wanted more "you have to find and talk to this noble with X information that will influence your options at the end of the WEWH quest before he gets assassinated by Y for reason Z" WEWH felt like it was made for conditionals and linking with the WT quests and being dependent on what companions you chose to go to the party with you, but it doesn't really happen.
