I know.  The self-sacrifce is the one that's on heaviest rotation in "Solas' Most Tragic Hits"(it's my way of inuring myself to potential heartache).  I have this image that you're just standing there, tears streaming down your face telling him 'no, it doesn't have to be this way' but knowing it does.  He's all like 'Hush, vhenan' as he wipes tears from your cheeks. He tells you that his time with you was the most at peace and the happiest he's been in his long life.  He kisses you one final time...

 

*shoves you all back into the hellspiral*

 

You are a dark and cruel goddess. I love it. If it were a book or a movie, this would actually be what I'd want for the story. But because it's Bioware and an interactive game, noooo_{ooooooope *falls joyously into the hellspiral like gollum into the lava*}
 

If Solas goes the Mordin route, I am going to dissolve into a bucket of tears.  Then I'm going to stubbornly headcanon that Lavellan goes the Flemeth route and picks up Fen'Harel's soul wisp.

Mordin still hurts me a bit. Then I remember he can be saved even if it's not a palatable route otherwise. And that Patrick Weekes totally nerded out and gave him that Pirates of Penzance reference in "Scientist Salarian." Even so, I desire all the good things for Solas. All the good things.

I got the hopeless relationship vibe from the Anders romance more strongly than the Solas one, and as much as it killed me watching Anders go nuts during Act 3, it was a fascinating RP experience.  Especially since you could definitely try to save him, even if the attempt was doomed to failure.  That said, I already played out that story once to its inevitably tragic conclusion with my Hawke and Anders.  I'm not sure if I wanna do it again with Solas and Lavellan.

The hopelessness of Solas relationship will only depend on Bioware. If they wanna make it possible to redeem Solas, forgive him and put some sense into his cute head, then I'll definitely go into that.

But if they don't even give the choice, I don't know if I'll be able to handle it.

 

And damn, making me want to play DA2 even more now. (on DA:O right now)

Welcome to the internet. lol No ones tone can be conveyed through their text the way they intend it to be 100% of the time. Where you might see fights and rudeness I see nothing but friendly disagreements, discussions and people sharing their outside passions with each other. Honestly all this bitching seems like a self fulling prophecy you guys have going on now. For me everything was happy and fine and now there's a bunch of whining carpet bombers dropping their opinions on it. South is looking better and better.

Many people want this not only because Solas is a character who has been through so much and deserves a happy ending, but also because LIs for female characters tend (more often than the ones for male characters) end unhappily (for example, the inability for both the Warden and Alistair to surive their romance without the Dark Ritual compared to Morrigan getting a whole DLC about her and the Warden getting their happily ever after.  See also: Thane.)

 

I don't know if I can find it again since I've almost completely forgotten how to navigate the old BSN, but a couple of us had an interesting conversation with Sheryl Chee after ME2's release about Thane's romance.  Specifically the trend where LIs for female characters tended to have dead exes that they talked about a lot.  She was genuinely surprised that it was a thing.  I don't think it's anything intentional on the part of the writers.  They're probably just not aware that it's become a pattern, like the dead ex thing (which has thankfully not resurfaced in recent games).

I'm sorry - I'm a sucker for tragedy.  As much as I selfishly loved Buffy continuing(and the Season 8/9 comics are ACE) - Season 5 was the best plot wise and the ending was perfect for her.  She was so at peace.  I think the same thing could be said for Solas(omg I'm committing to this now...weeps).  I think alive he would have so much guilt still.  He's let it make up so much of who he is. Built his entire self around it.  I think his death would be a relief for him.

If anything, I don't think Solas will choose to die unless it's the only option left to him because his whole uthenera experience must at least be some kind of lesson towards changing the world and not being around to follow through

I am hoping no one actually leaves the thread. You are all wonderful people! An argument or two is not going to change that.

 

Like I said earlier, I think there's merit to keeping Abelas's thread active so that bioware goes: 'Huh, they really like that there Abelas fellow, don't they?' What that doesn't need to translate into is some sort of gang war where you are either in Solas thread or Abelas thread. 

 

Because then we'd have to get sweet tattoos and leather jackets, and practice knife fighting. And I'm awful at knife fighting.

 

 

If people are feeling intimidated by fast posts, or off topic content- feel free to post a speculation of your own! Or ask people to talk about their Lavellans. People always want to talk about their headcanons or crazy theories. Don't be nervous about speaking up or rambling.

It seems that taking a break from the game for a few weeks made the second time hitting the heartbreak scene, didn't hurt to the magnitude that it did the first time.  Phew!  Although the masochist in me is a little let down I wasn't a sobbing mess like I was anticipating.    

 

That means that I have finished my canon Nightmare play through.  I've completed all of the achievements!  Hooray!

I don't know about anyone else, but my Lavellan was not smiling in that final scene at the end of the game.  (I've seen it mentioned that she was smiling and really shouldn't be because Solas effed off in to the sunset)  She looks rather angry if you ask me!

I made a male character for this first time, in this game.  Still undecided if he's for Cass or Dorian.  Probably Cass, because well she's Cass.   He came out a little generic pretty boy.  Woops.  (Every hairstyle looks terrible.  At least with the female characters I could use a ponytail.  Ponytail looked really bad on this dude.)

I wouldn't say there were trolls. A troll is someone is seeks a reaction but this was perhaps a disagreement. I mean, one time colernalkillabee was called a troll for being the disagreeable. I couldn't say what it was about since I was egging them on with the "fight, fight, fight" chant.
