I definitely didn't notice him progressively painting at all until I finished the game...I just figured they were always there....

I did .. mostly because after the Fade tongue scene where he stopped it from going farther, I went to talk to him, saw that the rotunda had gone from blank to 1/3 painted and thought, "Dang, working out some frustrations with a marathon of painting, were we?"  lol  =x

I was active back when the game first came out and haven't been able to get back to the thread until just now, basically. The people I used to chat with are gone and it definitely doesn't feel like I'm part of the group anymore. The atmosphere has changed. But what can you do? Best thing is to make new friends with the new people and spread the Solas joy :D

Yep same here.  We've picked up some great new folks.  I took a break for a few weeks and came back yesterday.  Not to complain.  But to participate.  I really enjoy this thread and the people in it.  It's not fun when we don't get along.  Hopefully some of our friends that haven't been as active lately will return like we did.

Not to mention, medium aside, he does those frescoes darn fast!  I mean, I go talk to him and the rotunda has bare walls, we go talk in the Fade and smooch some, I wake up and the rotunda is like 1/3 covered already.

Maybe being able to finally express his affections for Lavellan gives Solas this manic burst of artistic inspiration, and he just powers through it in one night.

Solas: We shouldn't. It isn't right. Not even here.

Lavellan: What do you mean "even here"?

Solas: Where did you think we were?

Lavellan: This isn't real.

Solas: That is a matter for debate. Probably best discussed after you... wake up.

---

Lavellan: WHAT THE--*moves to basin to splash water on face, then crawls back into bed*

---

Solas: What have I done, what have I done. That was... splendid--HORRIBLE. *wrings hands, leaping out of bed* I must paint.

Solas: *paints furiously through until dawn the following morning; hears Lavellan approaching, hurriedly throws evidence of mania under desk, clasps dirty paint-smeared hands behind back and leans nonchalantly against freshly painted wall*

Solas: Sleep well? *sweats*

I'm sorry if you're feeling like your posts are ignored. If you have something to say though, go ahead and say it! This may not be comforting coming from me but I'll make an effort to be around and try to catch the people getting left in the dust.

If you mean that I'm a newbie trolling though? I uh, I've been here since uh... page 360? and I was asking people to stay more on topic. It wasn't trolling.

Bringing back my two great contributions to the thread

Why is it when there is a disagreement, lurkers come out and post to complain after haven't posting for weeks?

We like to see the good chat, drama amongst people on the board is no fun. :P

Because some people are too shy to speak up by themselves.

And because I noticed that Bioware's pulling the punches lately, and that I know a lot of people would be upset and make a big deal about Solas possibly having influence over the woman he's sleeping with, meaning I don't put much stock in what Bioware tells us in general, over what I actually see.

In fact, didn't they say directly that they avoided a scene for that reason? Anyway, I don't think one needs to see a sex scene to know there's sexing going on. In my opinion, the signs are there.

If that were the case then Blackwall would certainly not have had a sex scene. At least not before that thing happened. :P

There was never any commentary from a writer/dev about avoiding a romance scene with Solas. His writer just wanted that to be left up to the player. Possibly he didn't want people to feel uncomfortable if there was a definite scene and then Solas did his Thing. Or keeping it ambiguous allows asexuals to have a romance and not feel the pressure of a sex scene. I'm glad they left it so either way, because while I'm sure my Lavellan was enjoying side benefits with Solas it didn't feel necessary to the romance. If Solas and another Lavellan just never approached a physically intimate relationship, it wouldn't have lessened the emotional and spiritual impact of the relationship.

Yeah, I kind of adore the drive-by disapproval bombs. Or I would, if they wouldn't provoke pages of angst.

I loved that so much. xD

I remember doing that scene going, " Oh, I have a bedroom... *leaves it*... Hold up, the throne room's a bit tidier... *trots to Solas's room*... What the funk?! SOLAS? HOW LONG WAS I ASLEEP!?"

It's got an NDA so don't do that here or you could get booted.

I don't know how much can be said honestly.  There's an NDA.

Edit:  Ninja'd by Addai!

Aw damn. I didn't realize. No worries, then! I can wait.

Nah, that was just speculation/people being glad there wasn't a scene for that reason.

You can be very physically close with someone/make sexual jokes and not have sex with them... and since it's not like Inquisition takes years, they really haven't known/been involved with each other for all that long before Solas leaves. I don't think it's unreasonable for a couple like them to not be having sex, whether or not it was planned to happen in the future.

I second this.

I thought about that too, and Solas' situation would go beyond that if he was actually able to control Lavellan, which hasn't been confirmed yet.

That's why a lot of people think what he said in the fade was true. That it wasn't right, and that this was wrong. Though it could be a lot of things.

And like I said, the devs mentioned they skipped out on a scene because they thought it would be taken very negatively.

I thought in order to be likable I had to not be myself.

Don't you ever do that. First thing I remember you saying to me was "No."
And don't you ever dare change. ;)

<ongoing argument with Colonel>

Alright... I really tried, but it seems I can't help you. You're basically unprotected game now.

Lol well, that's perfectly fine :P I really don't care that much for the topic... it's just an opinion I have and stand by, and people are free to disagree and dismiss it, as always.

It's called a headcanon for a reason. It's like an opinion, opinions can't be wrong. But one can think that an opinion is poorly formed. I find the headcanon of Solas and Cassandra having possible chemistry beyond mutual respect faulty... doesn't mean it's wrong.

All right, all right. Fair enough.

Very valid point.  I think the big difference between Blackwall and Solas though is that you can confront Blackwall on his deception and deal with it how you see fit.  The player has agency in that case.  With Solas you don't.  He leaves after the Cornflakes fight.  The player has no agency in this situation, and no closure.  I don't think Killabee is entirely wrong in his outlook on it.  With that said I appreciate the ambiguity Patrick Weekes gave all of us in regards to it.

I personally like that there's two (or three, if you turn down Dorian) romances in this game where sex isn't the win condition, and that the relationships without sex are left ambiguious enough to make everyone happy.

but my Lavellan and Solas?  Totally doing the firck-frack snick-snack.

Heyyo, everyone. *Waves.* I'm new, which is likely pretty obvious. I've been observing lurking for the past thousand pages or so. I'm new to the Dragon Age fandom in general. I was inducted in early January, although I owned Origins and had known a good deal about it for well nigh a year. I joined these forums...not quite a month ago, I believe? Thus I'm quite new. I blazed through Origins right after Christmas, then 2 not long after - both of which have completely stolen my heart - and if all goes as planned I will have Inquisition next week. I think it goes without saying, with where I'm posting, who it is I plan to romance. He wasn't my original plan, actually. I had intended to go with Cullen as my first playthrough. But, well... I heard some things about him, investigated his character, accidentally learned a few spoilers, and then...it was all downhill from there. He's stolen Alistair's place as my favorite video game love interest, and I haven't even played the game yet... Goodness, I'm ridiculous. Sorry. Rambling is a habit of mine.

I decided to post here first because from all I've seen, you people seem some of the nicest and awesomest. Honestly, I probably should have waited until I'm actually playing Inquisition to post. However, I thought it would be wise to claim a spot in the blanket fort in preparation for damned hellspiral. Also, if I need advice or have questions, I don't doubt you all will be extremely helpful.

Any-who, I'll try my best to contribute in discussions. I'm just not as lore savvy as the rest of you lovely people, so you'll have to forgive my ignorance in advance. Nonetheless, I absolutely adore reading all these theories and speculations and lore bits! I love expanding my knowledge and learning about all these topics, so thank you so much! Not to mention all the funnies and fluff and, well, obviously Solas oriented things.

As for writing and art contribution, well, my art skills aren't even acceptable. The best I can do are chibi sketches or just plain sketches which leave much to be desired. I, however, am no stranger to fan fiction. Even so, I'm an OCD, self-critical perfectionist, so most of what I write hasn't seen the light of day, or if it has it needs a mighty dose of improvement. I haven't written any Dragon Age fan fiction yet, but I plan on it, when my schedule permits.

Anyway, I just want to say that what little time I have spent on this forum has been beyond enjoyable. You all are bloody amazing, beautiful people, and I hope I can work past my shy, awkward social shortcomings and get to know all of you.

If it's you're talking about the scene Gaider talked about before the game came out, it's nothing to do with Solas.  It refers to an older version of Champions of the Just.

Guys, how exactly does it work with the beta? I "signed up" yesterday and it says it may take 24 hrs etc, well they have passed, but I can't access the post linked on the thread.

How do you know if you are successful? Was I supposed to receive an email? And since I didn't get it it means I didn't get in?

Anybody got in and cares to clarify? :)

Gaider said that the scene in question had to do with the envy demon questline and had NOTHING to do with any of the romances or any LI scenes. IIRC, it had something to do with being able to flirt with Leliana, but then finding out that she wasn't Leliana, or something to that effect. It was on Gaider's tumblr but since he's taken that down I can't find the post for the exact details.

EDIT:  'd

I'm sorry - I'm a sucker for tragedy.  As much as I selfishly loved Buffy continuing(and the Season 8/9 comics are ACE) - Season 5 was the best plot wise and the ending was perfect for her.  She was so at peace.  I think the same thing could be said for Solas(omg I'm committing to this now...weeps).  I think alive he would have so much guilt still.  He's let it make up so much of who he is. Built his entire self around it.  I think his death would be a relief for him.

Season 6 was my favourite season because Buffy was very, very clear that she would have been happier dead, that was her true perfection, her pinnacle... Everything else after that was always going to be stale... Including the affair with Spike... Which was great and dark in its way...

I found out because I tried to get to the beta forums link and it worked.  And in Origin there's a new tile for the beta.

If you got in, you should be able to access the beta forums. The beta itself should show up for download in Origin.

I'm sure people would be happy to see any art you produce or writings you write! I love seeing all the drawings, particularly from people who say they don't draw much otherwise. I know people can get a bit self conscious about technical skills and all that- but it is so cool to see people like something so much that they express it through art! That is what art is there for. <3
