so talked with some of the design guys after the panel today, and off the top of his head (i think it was Nick) said that they were looking at all sorts of bones, but he thought they settled on Solas' necklace being a wolf jaw bone.

That's so interesting! *^* were you able to ask any other questions? I'm sure they were all over your wonderful cosplay!

And shocked at seeing the romance thread closed, wow. Hope this gives them a bit more incentive to reveal the last two? ^^;

Oh? Everything I've read online seemed to indicate to me that the last two are race-gated. For example, it emerged that Iron Bull is open to all races and genders - I assumed we would have discovered whether any of the other revealed romances were race-gated, too, since we've certainly found out that some are gender-restricted (Sera and Dorian) or bi (Josephine). I suppose you could be right, though, and you have a very good point about Cullen.

 

However, even disregarding the race restrictions, the last two will have to be from the four I mentioned: Vivienne is in since she's the only female left, so that leaves us with the last three guys. I think Varric is out because of the reasons I gave earlier, and I guess if race restrictions don't apply, it'd be pretty much a toss up between Solas and Blackwall. I'm still slightly inclined to favour Solas, though, given the backgrounds of the two and the likelihood of race restriction.

 

I suppose they could also go with Blackwall as a 'hardened Alistair'-type romance, too. Either way, it's just so much fun speculating and this is the first time in my life that I can't wait for November to come!

 

(I love the romance debate, too. Alas, the romance thread was put on lock-down because it was delving into parts best left unexplored.  )

 

I don't think we can take Vivienne being in as a given. David Gaider has come onto the forums and said that they consider every player having two choices is fair, and that some will have more than that. Now, whether he means that a gay maile dwarf setup with have two and a gay male human will have three, or that lesbians of all races will only have two while straight women of all races will have three remains to be seen. Most likely is some combination of the two.

 

I do think it's likely that the last two are race-gated and haven't been announced because of it--when's a good time to explain why race-gating exists and how it affects the romance? An interview, where they can explain it fully would be best, I think. Or a blog post. Perhaps the story-related reasons for race-gating are a tad spoilary for that romance plot? And they're just trying to figure out how to announce it. If this is the case, I might just say So-And-So is gated against This Race, and you'll find out why if you explore that romance plot. It will invite rage on the forums, but, honestly, what doesn't these days?

 

I'm currently feeling really good about Solas being an LI, which means by Wednesday I'll be feeling like he has no chance.

This is in reply to Phate Phoenix - sorry, I can't seem to quote posts in my replies!

 

If Vivienne isn't a LI and the last two are race-gated, they'd have to be Solas and Varric as I just can't see Blackwall being a race-restricted romance. I don't know how they'd resist having a perfect balance of 4 male/4 female romances (cuz you just know there's gonna be folks crying foul if there's an imbalance and I'll bet Bioware has had enough of people crying foul), but of course all that is just speculation at this point. Not to mention if Vivienne is cold, hard, power-hungry, and sort of bitchy (sort of like Morrigan), there'd be people who'd get sick of her right quick and wouldn't want her in their party (especially guys, I'm thinking), but make her a LI and that's where things get much more interesting and complicated (sort of like with Morrigan, too). I think it may not be a coincidence that they're keeping the lid on the last two romances as at least one of them (if it's Vivienne) may be particularly impactful on the main storyline, and everything about Vivienne's background leads me to believe (the hidden agenda and her position, etc.) that she might play a Morrigan-like role in the endgame.

 

'Kay, I'd better shut up now as I've gone very off tangent about Vivienne in a Solas thread...I really should have posted my thoughts in the Romances thread, but yeah, how unfortunate that it was put on lock-down! Anyway, just to bring it all back to Solas, I think chances are looking very good that he'll be a LI, so yay!

She has dark greyish-brown skin and off-white, wavy hair. She keeps her hair short enough to be able to tie it in a small, loose ponytail. Her eyes are gold and her horns are about the size and shape of the demo female qunari’s, dark grey and usually have something gold or red decorating them. She’ll have face tattoos of some sort but the DAI character creator will determine which. Otherwise she’s a typical qunari – tall, a little more muscular than the normal female qunari mage (I plan to give her the Knight Enchanter specialization so she’s kind of an up-close-and-personal fighter) and not overly smiley.

 

To Solas! 18 questions total!

1) Who makes the first move and how?

Zaida, but only after Solas shows some semblance of interest in her. It’ll be slow going for sure; she’ll start spending a little more time around him whether that’s just sitting quietly with him, asking him to tell her stories about his Fade travels or simply discussing the ridiculous situation they’ve both found themselves in.  Then she’ll probably evolve to more physical contact that spans from resting a hand on his shoulder to leaning against him when she’s sitting next to him. Then she’ll probably eventually get impatient and just tell him how she feels in a moment of passion.

 

2) What's the others reactions?

A mix of “it’s about time”, “I never thought that would actually amount to anything” and “I don’t know if they’re a cute couple or just the weirdest one I’ve ever seen”.

 

3) Solas wants to give your quizzy their favorite meal or a thoughtful gift... What is it and how would he give it to them?

She’ll show interest in his necklace, mostly finding it strange, and he might make one for her. I imagine it wouldn’t be a dramatic affair, with Solas’s maturity. He’d probably just hand it to her with the excuse of “you seemed interested in mine, so I made one for you.” She’ll be surprised and happy that he made anything for her, especially if it serves some magical or protection purposes. And she’s definitely the type to wear anything made for her all the time, so that necklace would never come off. It helps that she feels like it connects them, though she probably wouldn’t say as much aloud.

 

4) Do Solas and your quizzy make their relationship obvious right away or is it hush-hush at first?

Zaida isn’t shy nor would she be ashamed of her relationship. They wouldn’t be incredibly loud about it but she isn’t going to try to hide it, even if Solas might want to. She’s probably a lot more comfortable with PDA than Solas is, though, so she’d respect that and not try to kiss him or hold him in public places.

 

5) If it's on the down low; do they end up telling the group or do they find out on their own?

It’s not on the DL but the others definitely find out themselves. She and Solas don’t seem like the types to just announce it.

 

6) If the "first move" didn't involve a kiss; how did their first kiss go?

Not as romantic as either of them might like. I picture it taking some tense circumstance where either of them is reminded of their own mortality. Zaida would probably kiss him in a fit of “you almost died” or “we could die tomorrow so I want to do this now”.

 

7) How do they behave together on and off the battlefield?

Zaida is all business on the battlefield. They’ll probably work together very well and complement each other in battle.  But other than that, they’d show no signs of being a couple while fighting, besides an increased protectiveness of each other.  Off the battlefield, she just wants to wind down and soothe her frayed nerves. Solas seems like a cool and collected person so she’ll probably go spend time with him to calm down. Doing that is likely what gets them together in the first place. To others, they probably look tremendously boring when they’re just sitting together, talking quietly or bustling around in Skyhold’s garden.

 

8) Would your quizzy flirt with someone else? Would Solas? How would they react?

Probably not but she’ll be flattered or amused by someone flirting with her and won’t try to stop it. Solas would very likely not.  I don’t picture either of them as the jealous type when it comes to something silly like that so nothing would come of it.

 

9) Who's the first to say "I love you"? When/Where/How do they do it?

Zaida, probably.  Though that will likely only come up right before a very, very big and dangerous battle.

 

10) What's the most publicly romantic thing your quizzy initiates? (Whether it's all the time or only once)

A “we made it out alive” kiss in front of everyone after a particularly rough battle.

 

11) What's the most publicly romantic thing Solas initiates? (Whether it's all the time or only once)

Making a very personal thing out of inspecting the Fade mark on her hand. As in holding her hand a little too intimately and a little too long for it to be just about the mark.

 

12) If your quizzy and Solas get into an argument who is the first to usually apologize (even if they were in the right)?

Zaida can be stubborn about things like that so Solas would probably be the first to apologize just to clear the air. Though I can imagine him not necessarily meaning it, if he’s certain he’s right. Zaida will be able to tell when he doesn’t mean it which could lead to more arguing.

 

13) Oh no! Quizzy got injured! Solas is the only one around to take care of them. How does your quizzy react to being a patient?

“Do you know healing magic? ..........Do I want you to use your healing magic?”

 

“Do you think being a ‘hedge mage’ means my brand of magic will have negative effects on you?”

 

“……I’m just not very fond of spontaneously combusting, Solas.”

 

“Ouch, my pride.”

 

14) Oh no! Again! Now Solas is injured and Quizzy has to play doctor; how would they go about it?

Very methodically while trying to pretend that her hands aren’t shaking. Solas, wisely, will say nothing about it and sit in stoic silence while she works carefully on his injuries.

 

15) Something emotionally scarring happened; how would Quizzy and Solas comfort each other?

Quietly and without tears. She’ll lean against him and ask him to tell her more about his travels to distract the both of them and he’ll do it without argument.

 

16) Is there a proposal in the future? Who pops the question and how?

If there was, Solas would have to be the one to do it. Zaida would be massively surprised that he was interested in something like that, given his former seclusion from society, but she wouldn’t dream of saying no. I can’t picture it being some grand proposal, more like: “Have you ever thought about what it would be like to be married?” and things falling into place from there.

 

17) Let's say the world was saved and you are no longer bound to the Inquisition; what's your quizzy and Solas planning to do?

Wander through Thedas, of course! She’s jealous of how many places Solas has been and wants to be that well-traveled. There would be a lot less sleeping everywhere, though, since Zaida will be interested in real world things as well. 

 

18) What would be Solas' pet name for your quizzie?If he gives him/her one.

 I can’t picture it. Maybe something benign like “love” every now and then.

 Probably the same as above.

Ulee definitely makes the first move. She is slightly "in your face". A bit of an outlier, amongst the Dalish, and not very good at being Dalish. She has respect for her clan and culture, but just marches to the beat of her own drummer.

2) What's the others reactions?
The other companions will probably not be surprised. She is a pretty straight shooter about things, and doesn't give shame or embarrassment, much thought.

3) Solas wants to give your quizzy their favorite meal or a thoughtful gift... What is it and how would he give it to them?
Hmmm.....I would say, that Solas ends up giving her a somewhat practical gift, but one suited for Ulee. Since I can see her not always being as prepared as she should be (since she doesn't want to weigh herself down due to fighting style), he makes her a backpack similar to his. It will have a nice fur covering, so that she can use it as a make-shift pillow, when needing a quick rest. He'll also add a few embellishments to the straps (a few beads, polished bones, maybe a feather or two); mementos that he picked up while the two of them were questing together.

4) Do Solas and your quizzy make their relationship obvious right away or is it hush-hush at first?
Ulee makes it obvious. It's her way.

The first move was a chaste kiss on the cheek. But their first intimate kiss was without hesitation, and private. Ulee might be somewhat gregarious, but she wants her alone time with Solas. Seems fitting that their first "real" kiss be in such a setting.

7) How do they behave together on and off the battlefield?
Very aware of where each other are, on the field. Ulee has complete confidence in him (as he does in her), but they can't help but be somewhat watchful. As for battle itself...cross-class-combos, baby! Booyah!

8) Would your quizzy flirt with someone else? Would Solas? How would they react?
Ulee would totally flirt with others for two reason; as a joke/teasing/taunting, or to gain something (though she would most likely fail miserably at this. She doesn't have traditional feminine wiles; a bit too blunt. ). Solas would flirt as an off-handed joke, but mostly to amuse Ulee, I suspect. Neither would be worried about such flirts.

9) Who's the first to say "I love you"? When/Where/How do they do it?
Ulee. Did I mention she is a bit "in your face"? Even with her personality though, like the kiss, she would choose to do this intimately, privately. Cup his face with her hand, move in close nearly nose to nose, and say, "I love you." As straight forward as that.

10) What's the most publicly romantic thing your quizzy initiates? (Whether it's all the time or only once)
There would be at least one moment where they would kiss, followed by an embrace. Maybe the occasional hand squeeze.

A soft kiss, followed by pressing his forehead to hers. His hand bracing her neck gently, while his other hand rests on her hip.

Oddly enough, I think it will be Ulee....again. LOL! She is one of those people who can admit when they are wrong (remember, she isn't easily embarrassed), and if she also feels that something will disrupt things that she needs to get done, she would apologize just to get past all of that. At least, in most cases. Might be certain circumstances that would negate this approach.

13) Oh no! Quizzy got injured! Solas is the only one around to take care of them. How does your quizzy react to being a patient?
She would take it, but she would be impatient.

He would instruct her what to do. She would fumble some, but would be gentle. The job would get done (with maybe a worried crinkle on her brow).
