Here's a good tip. When in doubt, fold. Fold your ass off and don't feel bad about it. Ignore your friends trying to goad you into raising. If you don't think you're gonna win, fold that ****.

Yeah... keep doing that (best on 4+K) and it'll be over soon.

How is he supposed to know if he can win? He's never played. ![]()

Exactly. So keep folding in other words
At least then he'll survive his first poker game and he can learn some stuff while observing the others.

Too late I lost
Solas thread failed me in my hour of need
I wouldn't say that. Had we failed you, you would still be in the game, dragging the inevitable failure out over hours and hours until eventually going all in just to finally be done with it. I think we you did a pretty good job.
Movie wasn't nearly as bad as tumblr made it out to be. Not nearly as kinky, and not really even close to being that damaging to poor young women everywhere who apparently now all want to be tied up.
The biggest complaint that I saw from critics that for all the fuss over the BDSM the movie was actually quite boring in that respect.
(Never read the books, have no interest to.)
I decided to drown my sorrows in Guinness
Guinness is certainly a good way to drown your sorrows.Cheers!
My newest PT is a Male Trev'quisitor. I'm playing him as pro-chantry (not a zealot though)and believes he was sent by the Maker. He likes and respects Solas, but does not entirely agree with him that the spirits are people too. Trying not to just agree with Solas all of the time this PT just to see some of the differences in the dialogue. I'm not being an Assquisitor though.
Anyways I was talking to him about the Fade and spirits. I asked him about the Veil, and after his answer I said something about it being scary or strange (I forget the specific response, but it was the middle option.) This was Solas's response. The way he said this line .... oh boy. Said it with a lot of errr passion.
I definitely believe the orb broke since it was emptied of power, not because it was damaged. Though it may be just a design choice, the orb split too neatly to have been crushed by debris. Whether it's because the Inquisitor expended the remaining energy once he/she gets a hold of it or absorbs it though, I couldn't say. It would be interesting if it were because he/she absorbed it, however. The implications alone open up many possibilities.
All this talk of the orb breaking reminds me of something....
I know!
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.
Hmmm, which is a tale of hubris if ever there was one...

And imagining Solas humming this to himself reminded me of Mordin...

Well, symbols do change and will always change and I really hope the Dalish keep the vallaslin even after this revelation.I like that what was once a slave brand, they now wear as a symbol of freedom, that represents their refusal to "bend their knee".Even Solas admits that despite what he said about them he respects their indomitable will.
I feel differently about this, and I'll explain, but am in no way invalidating anyone's roleplay reasons. I also understand this reasoning for keeping the vallaslin.
However, being a history nerd, one of the things that irks me is the reconstructed ethnic nationalism among peoples who were oppressed and lost touch with their actual heritage. A lot of it is sentimentalism, or just concocted BS, and this colors both the popular consciousness and in the past it also influenced historical scholarship- not in a good way. As archaeology reveals things about assumptions on national and ethnic identities, to my mind, clinging to the sentimental, constructed ethnic identity rather than the factual truth is a false sense of security and can become a political tool to reinforce division rather than anything meaningful.
Likewise I think the Dalish have to grow and change as they learn more about the real truth of their past, and move forward on a different basis, because in all practicality they're fading. They no longer even have a collective identity, and literally are dying out. If they don't change, they won't have any basis on which to move forward. Keep the vallaslin or not, doubling down on what they've been doing is not going to get them anywhere.
So, my view affects my Lavellan's view- also because she's kind of a scientist. You go where the truth leads you. It's an integrity thing, and though I'm sure she'll have conflicted feelings about it especially after Solas leaves her, would still have no regrets.
Oh boy, this one is totally what I was planning to start writing a week ago
I've even made all the notes and so on >.< Ah well. ![]()

You can write it and give it your own personal touch and style; that won't resemble anything else ![]()

Do eeeeeet!
I'm planning on doing a fanfic and it'll start in Solas's head with that scene, so go for it. x)

Well said. Especially the underlined bit.
Roger!
I'll get to it tomorrow :3
Off-topic: (I'm so excited I just have to share)
Just got... THIS.
Spoiler
No more mouse art!
You go girl! Still using my white Wacom Graphire XL I bought 7 years ago. I love it so much ![]()
Though, when I'll have the money (meaning definitely not now), I'll finally indulge my need for a Cintiq, hnnng.
I think about the vallaslin a lot.
From an anthropology journal, the article is studying the practice of female facial tattooing among the Maisin tribe of Papua New Guinea. The only tribe to still practice this tradition. The argument of the article is that the tradition came to a halt for the other tribes due to colonialism/conversion, etc--but the Maisin tribe recontextualized the practice, i.e. the meaning of the ritual has gathered new significance--one that is markedly different from the original purpose. Thus, they were able to reclaim their tradition and carry it forward given new meaning:
"The study of the techniques, aesthetics, and cultural significance of Maisin tattooing, in our view, cannot be understood without considering the surprising resilience of the practice. Like most coastal Melanesiana the Maisin have long participated in the colonial and post-colonial social order. In the course of becoming Christians, submitting to a Western education system, and entering the cash economy, they have abandoned some customary practices, adopted or fashioned new ones, and tinkered with many others. Our analysis of Maisin tattooing is shaped by an interest in the linkages between changes in the external economic and political conditions of Collingwood Bay communities and modifications of cultural institutions within the society. We will argue that Maisin tattooing needs to be understood historically. As the conditions of their lives have changed, the Maisin have discovered new reasons to tattoo adolescent girls and, in the process of recontextualization, have found new significance in the custom."
In other news, I just can't remove the vallaslin anymore. I did it my first time. I just don't think I can do it anymore. Sorry, Solas.
That actually makes a lot of sense!
As for my Inquisitor, she decided to remove it, because even though they surely had a new purpose, knowing the truth about them made her cringe, as she's fighting for freedom with a passion. Also, I see it as a "coming of age" ritual, in which she wants to become the first of her kind, the first elf & mage, free, recognized and having unprecedented freedom. She wants to lead her people towards that goal, so to her, letting go of her vallaslin is a symbolic step towards that.
Also, she prefers her face without, even though hers was already very discreet to begin with.
Usually 5-6(CST/EST) - though people wander in and out throughout the day.
Was fun to be around, even though couldn't stay long, had to go out and have a "social" life. Definitely up for future ones, though!
Also, I just went to see Big Hero 6, AND IT WAS FUN. AND PRETTY. AND CUTE. (And not perfect, but it's a Disney, alright)
After wanting a TARS when I watched Interstellar, and now wanting a Baymax after watching Big Hero 6, I now think I have a thing for cute helpful robots.
My point was that by accepting the fact that the vallaslin have a different symbolism now, allows the Dalish to move on and grow.People tend to complain that the Dalish are stuck in the past, when in reality they have created a culture of their own, to the point that the culture of old Arlathan is almost unrecognisable to your average Dalish elf.I feel differently about this, and I'll explain, but am in no way invalidating anyone's roleplay reasons. I also understand this reasoning for keeping the vallaslin.
