I have to disagree. Being made tranquil vs being made an abomination is both equal to me. Either way you are being made into something else. And tranquils won't necessarily be doing any damage anyways. At least we know now that there is a cure for tranquility. Not so sure about abominations.

goddammit. ToP Solas.

They're both bad options. Either way, who you are as a person is destroyed. Personally I would take abomination over tranquil after hearing the way the tranquil are abused (physically and sexually) by templars AND other mages without being able to even understand that they are being abused.

If Felissan had a part of Fen'Harel (like flemeth/mythal) is it possible he took that piece back, making felissan tranquil/die? Thats more like Solas then out right killing a follower to become him.

Oh god...I just made myself SUPER upset.  I pictured Cole sacrificing himself to fix Felassan.  Noooooo....can't make that choice!

 :o :crying:

That's horrible.  Besides, he would just get Rhys to come help.  Cole's smarter than that.

Also, I don't get the impression that it has be a sacrifice, just that the spirit has to "touch" you.  I read Asunder as essentially saying that Pharamond went about six steps too far.

And then there's the using Tranquil skulls to make the things for looking for the shards.  Awful.  What a horrible fate.

I don't think I actually care for "curing" tranquility. This particular aspect of the mage/Templar issue has touched me emotionally. If they remove it now, the whole issue will become less stressful for me, I guess. It will be reduced to mere facts and less feeling.

Well my mage Lavellan would disagree, it is a wrong that needs to be righted wherever possible...  Where do we stop, should we cut off the heads of Tranquils and put them on little poles to decorate the landscape?

*Oh!*

Meh, I didn't kill them. May as well be put to good use and help the Thedas Jesus/Joan of Arc/Constantine get some nice magic resistance bonuses.

There is a locked hut in Redcliffe Village by the docks where Connor is standing.  If you go into that hut you find out how they were made.  Awful.

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to tell me. So you... felt offended by what I said?

I'd honestly rather be made Tranquil than be made an abomination. I know Bioware really waffles on the Tranquil issue, but based on the tranquils you encounter in DA:I, it's implied that they do have some capability for emotion (the tranquil in Redcliffe asking to be saved from the Tevinters vs. Samson's tranquil choosing to die against Samson's orders in order to keep his friend safe) and tranquils have the ability to contribute to the betterment of others (I weirdly love Minaeve - it actually took me a long time to realize she was tranquil). On the other hand, as an abomination, even if you retain more of your personality, you become a threat and a danger to everyone you once cared about/society as a whole - it's like losing pieces of yourself holistically vs. having the worst aspects of yourself aggravated until you become lethal and polluting to everyone around you.

If nothing else, even in the worst interpretation that Bioware offers (DAII), I would rather be an abused, empty shell of myself than become a threat to everyone and everything around me (look at what Connor does in DA:O)

Yes there's a little hut you can discover in Redcliffe with skulls stacked on shelves and a note explaining what they were used for...

Minaeve isn't Tranquil.  She just gets along with tranquil mages.  The fact that she cares for them and worries for them shows that she has emotions.  One of the reasons she looks out for the tranquil is because they can't look after themselves.  She's also able to too tell the Inquisitor why she likes wildlife, unlike her replacement/assisstant in Skyhold who tells you that she remembers liking animals, but not why.

I think at one point she says she would have opted for tranquillity, that her magic skills are very low but could still be potentially harmful.

Is there nothing about this woman that doesn't make me want to give her a hug and a cup of tea and tell her everything will be okay?

I just tried the werewolf name thing on my Lavellan and got "Magic Wolf". That should be Solas', not hers.  :P

Edit for ToP Solas!

Spoiler

http://miyku.tumblr....st/111747014357

Those lips. Even when he sneers they are glorious.

About the dancing, for some reason I always associated elven dance with river dance and their singing with Welsh singing.

I imagine my Lavellan dancing to some short of Irish soft shoe dancing, looks very similar to ballet but it's more "lively".

This perhaps makes more sense, but for some reason I cannot shake the more tribal dances out of my head for the modern Dalish clans. The heart wants what it wants.   ;)

I've rationalized it by imagining the Ancient Elven dances to be much more formal and primarily rigid, like Medieval dances in Great Britain, and then once Arlathan fell and the clans were born and scattered over the many years that passed since, their dances transformed accordingly to something much more wild, instinctive and free.

But obviously, this is all just headcanon territory, and I like the idea of Irish-like dancing for the Dalish, too. Dancing elves in any capacity is fabulous.

Spoiler

Hey girl heeeeeyyy. Just eating cake. Regretting my life decisions. ONE BY ONE.

What does the back look like? I am strangely desperate to know if there's a butt-flap.

Oops sorry I got the two researchers mixed up, I meant Helisma (I think Minaeve's name is thrown around more in fanfiction so it stayed with me)

Either way - I would still prefer tranquility (under any of Bioware's waffly renditions of it) to being an abomination that corrupts my fellow mages and murders people, ijs.

He's one of the main character in Weekes' The Masked Empire which is set just before the Orlasian civil war.  He acts as a mentor to Briala and teaches her a great deal about Fen'Harel (and even compares the two of them).  He's apparently a Dalish apostate but the end of the book hints that he's an ancient elf and is killed by an unknown party (thought at the time by many readers to be Fen'Harel, but that theory has got less popular after DAI).

He's very sarcastic and one of the few consistantly likeable characters in a book filled with morally grey people.
