I'm wary of Bioware writers novels (sorry I love your games, but ME novels were... well let's leave it there) But you guys have really made me want to read The Masked Empire. I would have liked to learn much more about Briala ingame, and Felassan seems a fascinating character.

The DA novels are great.  Stolen Throne and The Calling give backstories to DAO and DAOA and help understand both Loghian and The Architect a lot more.  Asunder is Cole's entire backstory, The Masked Empire is both the best written and the most interesting of the books (and includes a lot of characters who appeared in DAI), and Last Flight is just amazing.  It has GRIFFONS!  And wonderful elven characters!  And griffons!  Just take a look at the Colonel's reaction whenever anyone mentions Crookytail or Garahel, if you want an idea of how great people find this book.

Ahhhh too much text dude ;)

Everything cool he did was negated when he died from his drink. Poisoned my ass, that little lick spittle couldn't handle his alcohol, thus his badassery card was, is and forever will be revoked.

Knock yourself out, I already heard all the arguments for it on Tumblr.

I let him live for some of those reasons, along with my chantry hate. I still really hate the guy. Especially since he was so cool in Awakening. So I'm admittedly resentful for the changes they made to him.

I let him live, if only in the hope my warden string him up for desertion.

Seriously half the companions in awakening treat the wardens like a part time weekend get together thing, it's not on!

If making Anders tranquil was an option I would totally do it.

*gasps in horror* I love Anders! He's tied with Solas for my top two favorite DA characters. <_< What, don't look at me like that!

Me too~ I can't advocate what he did on moral reasons, but I just love him too much to kill him (he likes cats and helps the poor and is just such an all around cutie pie - I blame Justice ok)

Totally OT, but someone mentioned The Hangover and I AM SO EXCITED FOR FFXV. I love the idea of a group of bros on a road trip to save their country <3

I wasn't even aware there were ME novels. What're they about? (Any Garrus? :P)

The first one is the backstory for the first game and set about 20 years before it.  The others are set during the ME games.  They all star Kahlee Saunders (who is fantastic, don't care what anyone else says) and are... pretty decent.

Until the last one which had an autistic character 'get over' her autistim and a canonically gay character checking out asari dancers.  As well as having all sort of lore and continuity errors.

I didn't realize how much I had written until after I had posted it.  I left for a drink and thought I'd posted the first half already.

Also, what source are you using for him dying from his drink? Malaria, poison, liver failure (no idea how that happened  ), inept medical care, some freaky disease from the now headcanoned Indus Hangover trip, and so on.

It's a wee bit unfair to dismiss all of his accomplishments because one of the many unproven theories has him dying by drinking too much.

That line of thinking would also basically erase at least half of my ancestors from the history books.

You know I had a thought. If I was Solas and I wanted to free all the slaves of the world and the elves and whatever....you know who the first person I would find to be on my team would be?

ME novels are almost entirely detached to the plot, which is why they end up being uninteresting. Most have to do with Anderson, his Sue girlfriend, and a series of other minor characters. None of them ever come all that close to being interesting. And then in the notorious final book, almost all of them are killed off so that they don't need to deal with them in ME3. The third book was so awful that bioware basically had to apologize for it.

The DA books actually do what a tie in novel should do. They show us stories and interesting characters. Things that are relevant to the story we are playing. You get insight into certain characters [Loghain, for instance], in a way that wouldn't be possible ingame.

Can I just take a moment to point out that, from a Psychology perspective, when a person claims to hate someone they once loved and wants revenge on them, what they are generally actually saying is "I still love this person and I have no idea what to do with my emotions."

when you are actually over someone, you kind of stop caring what happens to them. I'm just saying. It's something to think about at least.

Hmm.. I made a quickie gag unwashed solas mod and then I am currently drawing a stabbing solas drawing... Sounds about right.

There's your mistake...usually Tumblr's arguments are filled of illogical fools who blindly defend someone without looking at both sides of the argument. Why do you think I don't have an account on that place?

My main argument for Anders is simply that he is still a man/human. Every one of us have boundaries and when they are pushed, well, our species is always only one step away from becoming animals. Anders saw constant abuse such as rape, tranquility, discrimination, etc. He finally snapped when he realized that the world needed a push for anything to change and DAI is the PERFECT example that sometimes force is needed for change.

We all know that the Mages and Templars would had started fighting one another without Anders at some point. It was indeed inevitable and it probably would had been even worse since all that hate would had been bubbling up for even longer.

In short: Anders was a character used to remind us that men sometimes are pushed too far and snap/make horrible decisions. We are all humans and even though we will never be exposed to something like Anders was, well, we can at least think about what it would be like. We never know how we would truly react in a situation until we are in it. We may predict what we might act like, but we do not know.

As for why I let Anders live? I roleplay my characters in the way I made them, so they do things that I may not agree with. My Hawke was romancing Anders and she was the type who was never going to give up on anyone. So when he betrayed her...it nearly broke her, but she knew that Anders had to fix what he did. Even though she does not expect their relationship to ever be back to what it was, because that was a lie and not even real. She wants Anders to move on and become a better man even if that means she is simply in his life as a force that helped him get through his hardships.

Just had my first Solas dream.  He was helping me study for a physics final (I'm not even taking physics this semester!), and then he helped me navigate a flooded street.  He also yelled at people for wearing chains on their tires because it was wrecking the streets...

wtf.

Yelling at people in the streets sounds like a crotchety old man thing to do. It's totally in character. ;)

I like funny outfits. And please stream. I need a distraction today as I'll be visiting family while sitting at the kids table, mind you this segregation is full of late teens and 20+ year olds. One day the current adult table will be the senior table...

I'm so relieved this happens in other families. I recently got to sit at the adult table for the first time in my life, and it was ****** amazing. (Actually it was kind of boring. Nobody wanted to talk about video games. u_u)

Same.

And by important stuff, I mean, they're being racist, sexist, homophobes, and all that jazz. So in the end, as soon as I can, I try to get away from it.

He-y-y-y, I have a few horrible eggs like that in my extended family, too. I tend to take the Cullen approach and stonewall them with statements like "No. This is ridiculous." *folds arms and stares disapprovingly until the word vomit stops*

I also see the Native American similarities, as far as my knowledge of them goes; even if Dalish clans are showed as speaking elven among them in the books, their skills in their ancestors language seems similar to the very faded Native American languages (I guess situation varies greatly from tribe to tribe, I'm over generalizing here) The fading culture trope can be applied to Celts and NAs, but I think the precarious existence of modern Dalish is more akin to the hard struggling of NAs to preserve what is left of their culture and adapt themselves to modern life at the same time. NAs were also once widely spread and populous, perhaps never an empire but were fought and partially assimilated into the invading culture much as the Dalish were by Tevinter and Andrastianism.

Anyone with more knowledge than me please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I always saw the Celtic parallel with the Dalish, but when I realized NA parallels could be also traced I found it very refreshing (I love everything Celtic but honestly, too much of it in fantasy settings)

Unfair? LIFE is unfair, my friend. I'll give your ancestors my condolences ;)

I think, going back from now, the family history goes something like:

Government workers, writers, computer technicians:

Truck drivers, farmers, writers, steel-workers.

Farmers, nuns, alcoholics.

Murderer and robber fleeing Scotland, becomes a pirate, gets drunk, crash lands in Canada. Meanwhile, an Englishman gets drunk, robs a bank, and flees to America, and becomes a pirate.

No offense to you, but I'd bet Alexander would be able to out-drink you. :P Alcohol nowadays is less brutally alcoholic than older drinks. It's like the West Wing episode where President Bartlet criticizes Bond for taking a lightweight drink. It was most certainly not lightweight back when Ian Fleming was in town, we've just got health standards now.  Macedonian soldiers' booze, plus the fancy pants wine he was so fond of, would probably be even worse.

(If we have an alcohol historian, I would appreciate clarification. My knowledge of alcohol is similar to Killabee's knowledge of Alexander's death theories.  )

That being said, if you did drink more than Alexander, he would have taken out whatever city you were drinking in during his blackout. So that counts as a win in my book.  :P
