That said, Abelas knew he was an ancient elf judging by his comments.
What comment do you take this from? "Elvhen like you"? Because I don't think it is so clear. He also states "You share the features of those who call themselves Elvhen" (or similar), so this does not necessarily mean he sees an ancient elf in him.
It just kinda makes me sad thinking that Abellas and co. have dedicated their entire lives to protecting, what they think is, the remnants of Mythal, when in reality she is alive and well and doesn't care about them too much.
I don't think she does not care about them. She is broken, weak, cannot reveal herself. But the power of the well still holds true and she knows the guardians keep it safe. It's not seldom that a leader won't show up for his troops often, and in a way she is the leader and the guardian slaves are the troops. But that does not mean she wouldn't care, one way or the other.
He's also rather quick to say that Fen'Harel wasn't responsible when it came up. Even though there's no real reason he would need to phrase it so directly.
I think there is. Abelas has seen his own people fall, out of arrogance and ignorance. Fighting against themselves, destroying everything he held dear. If the past is forgotten it's too easy to repeat its mistakes in the future. So it is important for him to make clear how things really were, and this includes destroying any illusions of "A single bad entity did it all". He must make sure people understand what happened, to learn from the past.
I will never get over the fact that the Dread Wolf is actually closer in temperament to Grumpy Cat.
This... actually works alarmingly well... ![]()
