Sorry, I am having trouble hearing this conversation over the censorship of my artistic expression within the past hour for "non-constructive/ trolling content" despite the number of likes and the quotes of the work. That are still on the thread. Showing the work. Real effective.

Despite it being some of the most tame stuff I have ever posted. Despite the significantly more NSFW and inappropriate content on the thread. But it's okay, dear virginal hallas, it's on other forms of social media where people can take a joke without seeing comedy/ satire as a personal attack or revenge on a pixel who left me. Or you know, in the Cullen thread. /my glass hearted feels that can only be healed by hate art

Ever thought I might do it because it's fun? Because I like making people laugh? That this fandom needs something other than salt and tears? Like, I dunno... humor? The ability to laugh at ourselves?

I apologize deeply for whomever decided art censorship was the only answer. Freedom of Speech 2k15. Maybe they should read Candide. Or Tartuffe? Maybe not. They'd probably take it all literally and entirely miss the point.

 

Unfunny people are boring. Keep on not being boring, you're doing awesomely well.

 

 

Also, I'm a bit confused at people liking Gaspard for admitting he is an a*shole. Like, does that give him a free pass at being one?

In my mind, even less so, because then he admits he knows where the line should be drawn, but keeps on pushing for his own personal interest and glory. Gaspard is looking at the throne like a glutton at a feast. There's a quote in the book that says is so well,  where Celene says he doesn't even know what he's asking for, and has no competence for it, but yet keeps pushing for it. Like a little child thinking he knows best than everybody else, and keeps on wanting something that he shouldn't.

I hate that about him, and I can't forgive him that. Briala & Celene are 100% more understandable and mature, so far. And they certainly don't always act in their own personal interest/glory, which makes them 200% more likeable.

 

I don't expect some big TME ending to make me suddendly like Gaspard and hate Celene & Briala, but maybe I'll be surprised.

If you like taking screens then yes, get it! It's fun! *-* the controls are baaad at first, but you can get used to them, so don't worry about that.

Oh, Liz. I ran out of likes, but your wit and charm are irreplaceable and I love your art style. Down with censorship! It doesn't matter to me that you have switched from one ancient elf to another (not really, though I may jest about it) what matters to me is that you have a unique expression and I, for one, would feel a great sense of loss if that were to for some reason go away.

But I admit that without context things like creeper-solas can be weird. I mean, you know what's going on becuase you probably talk about it in chat, but for those who don't, well, maybe it just gets misunderstood *insert emo-no-one-understands-me gif here*. I get it's just for fun and I like it, hell I I laughed out loud, but I did stare at it thinking WTF at first lol (I don't read every post like I used to though, so maybe it's just me). Maybe include some more backstory? So we can all laugh about it.

I feel the need to say I thought the creeper Solas, although creepy without a doubt, was hysterical. And especially that adore Liz's artwork to pieces. Everyone needs to make fun of characters now and then - especially highly regarded ones, I think. 

 

Here to help!  If you write something with him, send it to me! I would love to read.  I'm not a great writer so anyone building off it would be great!  I actually picture this happening with Lavellan there...she was kind of like 'nope we're in this together'.  My Lavellan draws a certain strength from Solas - mostly he's her compass for all sorts of magical weirdness(she's an archer) and when she notices that he's visibly freaked she starts to realize how dangerous this guy is. 

 

I will send it gladly. I may actually attempt that, although I make no promises as to the quality. My writing still holds plenty of room for improvement, and that's me being nice to myself about it, but I have no doubt Inquisition is going to be the last fan to the flame of my growing want to write some fan fiction. And yeeees... Of course Lavellan would have to be there. It just wouldn't be the same. I've resigned myself to no fan fiction until I finish Inquisition. I just don't think going in without proper firsthand knowledge of Solas and writing something would be a good idea on my part. 

 

I really like that. About your Lavellan, I mean. It's romantic, but more than that, it says so much about their relationship. I love things like that so much.

I might grin a bit too wide if that happens. I need something to shake the core of them believers, and if Andraste and The Maker can fall as well, all the better. SHENANIGANS. IT'S ALL SHENANIGANS.

Ugh. I keep trying to press "like" hoping something will happen, but nothing happens!
But yes. Context is a valid point. Then again, so is freedom of expression. I think more or less we should all just strive to be nice and respectful of each other.

That's one of the reasons I try to be so gentle, whether in here or wherever I am. People already have **** going on in their normal lives that they have to deal with and I don't want to contribute to that. That's not to say I don't know when and how to give or take a joke, however...

I am sleepy and not up to date with current dramas.

 

But I am going to guess Drake is probably right. Not everyone is in on the joke, so instead they are left to fill in the blanks as far as what is going on. This thread is seen by a ton of people, not all of whom post. From someone just casually chilling around, they may not see the joke. Instead they just see someone who might be making fun of them. And then outraage.

 

Which creates more outrage, which creates a back and forth cycle.

It's not about creeper Solas. Its about people not liking that Liz talks about Abelas and/or other people in a more positive light than Solas In his thread. And that is petty x10. Imagine if we restricted everyone to all solas all the time. But it had to always be 100% positive conversation. We can not mention anything negative about him.

In the same vein we should restrict all art featuring solas and anyone except a lavellan. No more fanfic that features anyone except Solas. No more conversations about the elven pantheon unless including Solas. Anyone who wishes to express any feelings towards any other character is free to do so in their particular threads.

I should make a list of rules in chart form.

(Cassandra disgusted noises at myself) I knew that came across as too harsh! I should have reworded it. I was trying to be silly. Although, what I said is true as far as evidence supports, I wasn't trying to imply that your beliefs or feelings are not valid. I'm all for freedom of expression. Sometimes I feel like you take it a little too far, but don't we all sometimes.

Most of my educational background is in psychology, so I apologize if/when I get too preachy. You have my permission at any time to say something to the effect of "shut up, Elfy, no one likes a psychologist."

Edit: also, I did apologize ( and I apologize again) for what I said earlier this week. What Colonel said made me realize that it had been an inappropriate comment despite that I meant it as purely informational to someone who had asked.

Probably not, but to be honest, that would be boring. The "there is no actual god" thing is done to death.. The implications of a god actually existing... that is interesting.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like Gaspard to the point where I'd want to see him rule Orlais, but I think his character is more complex than 'badguy'.  Plus, there are several things he does near the end of the book that show how honourable he is.

 

And there's some things about Celene that make me go 'oh.  Okay.  She's not a very nice person.'

I agree with this.  I don't even lurk in the chat so without the in-jokes from that some of the Solas stuff can come off as a bit, well, mean-spirited.
