Sorry, I am having trouble hearing this conversation over the censorship of my artistic expression within the past hour for "non-constructive/ trolling content" despite the number of likes and the quotes of the work. That are still on the thread. Showing the work. Real effective.

 

 

Yikes, I hope my commentary last night hasn't made you feel this way. I was posting that in the vein of "you need Andraste" and not meaning anything by it beyond that. I don't think your art needs to be censored at all.

 

I haven't had my coffee yet, so this is as eloquent as I can manage at this point. I do hope it suffices.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like Gaspard to the point where I'd want to see him rule Orlais, but I think his character is more complex than 'badguy'. Plus, there are several things he does near the end of the book that show how honourable he is.

And there's some things about Celene that make me go 'oh. Okay. She's not a very nice person.'


I agree with this. I don't even lurk in the chat so without the in-jokes from that some of the Solas stuff can come off as a bit, well, mean-spirited.

People could be in on the jokes and still find something to be offended about. People are too sensitive.

I mean of all the things to get offended over. Its not like anyone said he smelled like weed and patchouli oil.

Probably not, but to be honest, that would be boring. The "there is no actual god" thing is done to death.. The implications of a god actually existing... that is interesting.

 

He or she or it, or whatever is likely not what people expect, but we'll never know for sure.

 

In a way, I love how DA shows us the importance of symbolism, but also its flaws. Humanity entirely relies on symbolism, yet they're not facts, and they lack nuance, deform what really happened. I feel like the DA series are a good fable about that, more than it is a fable about whether gods are real or not.

We make them real, and transform them, despite what they were at the beginning. The Inquisitor is a good example of that, chances are she'll be the next Andraste in a few centuries.

I went to my history class and one of my classmates might have come in late, got publicly scolded by the teacher, then yelled at the teacher until they were both crying and he told us that class was dismissed early. Being the empath that I am, I am a bit shaken up about the whole experience.

(Cassandra disgusted noises at myself) I knew that came across as too harsh! I should have reworded it. I was trying to be silly. Although, what I said is true as far as evidence supports, I wasn't trying to imply that your beliefs or feelings are not valid. I'm all for freedom of expression. Sometimes I feel like you take it a little too far, but don't we all sometimes. Most of my educational background is in psychology, so I apologize if/when I get too preachy. You have my permission at any time to say something to the effect of "shut up, Elfy, no one likes a psychologist."

In all seriousness, if you knew you were being too harsh then why did you say it. Could have apologized after realizing it but you didn't. I'm all for people having their own opinions about what is talked about on this thread but calling people out individually was a bit extreme. 

 

Being individuals is what makes the world a unique place, and trying to shut people up about it and fit into your own mold of what you think their thoughts should be like...well you ain't much better than the Qun. 

 

My mom is a psychologist and she never puts people on the spot like that. Even when she is mad. So I'm not sure what you are trying to claim with the "blame the psychologist in me."

No one gave a **** that my art (the Grey warden griffons and Falon'Din) were not of Solas or Lavellan so why was Liz's art censored. Just because it was humorous? As an artist that has my own views on this game it bothers the **** out of me.

Also, I'm a bit confused at people liking Gaspard for admitting he is an a*shole. Like, does that give him a free pass at being one?
In my mind, even less so, because then he admits he knows where the line should be drawn, but keeps on pushing for his own personal interest and glory. Gaspard is looking at the throne like a glutton at a feast. There's a quote in the book that says is so well,  where Celene says he doesn't even know what he's asking for, and has no competence for it, but yet keeps pushing for it. Like a little child thinking he knows best than everybody else, and keeps on wanting something that he shouldn't.
I hate that about him, and I can't forgive him that. Briala & Celene are 100% more understandable and mature, so far. And they certainly don't always act in their own personal interest/glory, which makes them 200% more likeable.
 
I don't expect some big TME ending to make me suddendly like Gaspard and hate Celene & Briala, but maybe I'll be surprised.

Oh don't mistake me, he's loathsome. I just can tolerate honest perfidy more than "oh Briala I wub you even though I killed your parents" and all the other BS that goes on in the Game. As for gluttony for power, Celene is right there with him, so they're equal from that respect. And Gaspard offered her a way to settle the conflict peacefully, she just couldn't bring herself to do it, and the country suffered immensely for it (both their fault, of course).

As for the thread drama and all the passive aggression oozing everywhere, reporting someone just for being goofy and irreverent is low. I hope Mims is right and it was a drive-by instead of a regular here. Either way, dude- take your anti-catty pills and start exercising that scroll button.

The issue is whomever felt it was necessary to report Carrieli and me over our art posts and have them deleted by a moderator. That's the censorship. That's what's wrong.

It's not about creeper Solas. Its about people not liking that Liz talks about Abelas and/or other people in a more positive light than Solas In his thread. And that is petty x10. Imagine if we restricted everyone to all solas all the time. But it had to always be 100% positive conversation. We can not mention anything negative about him.

In the same vein we should restrict all art featuring solas and anyone except a lavellan. No more fanfic that features anyone except Solas. No more conversations about the elven pantheon unless including Solas. Anyone who wishes to express any feelings towards any other character is free to do so in their particular threads.

I should make a list of rules in chart form.

 

1. Thou shalt love the Egg

2. Thou shalt not love false Eggs or Egg-substitutes or Eggs-out-of-a-liquid-in-a-box/bottle

3. Thine Eggs shall ever be Grade A

4. Thou shalt exhibit a preference for Organic, Locally-Sourced Eggs above all other

5. An Ostrich Egg doth not an Egg make

I am very down with that~ I consider myself a fairly devout Christian, but I think what a lot of religious people miss is that even if two people read the exact same edition of the exact same holy book about the exact same God, people will always interpret that God differently depending on their own personal context. To borrow/reword a quote from Karenina, I believe that if there are as many minds as there are men, there are as many Gods as there are minds. As much as Christians, at least, like to say that God formed man in His image, humanity also forms our gods/God in our own image - religion is often less about what people believe than it is about what people want to or need to believe. 

 

That isn't to say that there isn't a place for faith/religion - I obviously believe in the existence of a God - but I think it's important to understand our own fallibility when it comes to this part of humanity.

Is this not doing exactly what you just accused me of? I didn't think it was too harsh at the time, but hind sight is 20/20 isn't it? Ave commented about it and it looked to me like she recognized it for the jest I meant it to be, so I went with it, but after Liz herself never commented, I figured I must have gone too far. And I did apologize. Twice now. I never said I was a psychologist, what I said was that was where my education mostly lies. I also did not mean to imply that I was excusing my behavior.
But now Liz and I have discussed it, and I don't feel like it should be my obligation to explain myself or apologize to anyone else.

That being said, I am glad that there are so many people willing to stand up for her.
