No Gods for me thank you.

Unfunny people are boring. Keep on not being boring, you're doing awesomely well.

Also, I'm a bit confused at people liking Gaspard for admitting he is an a*shole. Like, does that give him a free pass at being one?

In my mind, even less so, because then he admits he knows where the line should be drawn, but keeps on pushing for his own personal interest and glory. Gaspard is looking at the throne like a glutton at a feast. There's a quote in the book that says is so well,  where Celene says he doesn't even know what he's asking for, and has no competence for it, but yet keeps pushing for it. Like a little child thinking he knows best than everybody else, and keeps on wanting something that he shouldn't.

I hate that about him, and I can't forgive him that. Briala & Celene are 100% more understandable and mature, so far. And they certainly don't always act in their own personal interest/glory, which makes them 200% more likeable.

I don't expect some big TME ending to make me suddendly like Gaspard and hate Celene & Briala, but maybe I'll be surprised.

Agree 100% Gaspard is an egocentric, pretty dim tool who thinks he is superior to Briala and Celene merely by dint of being a man.

So this was done for Kissiebear after she made an incredible description of Falon'Din. And my attempt to capture him in all his fabulousness really does no justice...

Behold...

I like Gaspard because he's an ******* who is honest about being an *******. Celene is an ******* too, she's just more secretive about it. Briala is just stupid.

Gaspard is an a*ss because he wants to be, and can be. He's like a twelve year old troll in a chat room, being mean to people because he can, because he thinks he's inherently superior, more clever, more deserving. He wants the throne for himself, for his own glory, and wants to march on other countries in order to prove his country has the biggest. Lingering in the sweet memories of when Orlais was bigger, he can't help but have a colonialist mind, and for that, I can't ever like him.

He goes at war SOLELY for his own gain and glory. Nothing else. He goes at war simply because he thinks he's the sh*t that everybody needs, while he knows nothing about ruling a country to begin with and will just bring mess to it. So arrogant, pedant and full of himself, so little regard about who he kills in the process (because he did initiate the war, he's the one responsible for the majority of the loss, there). That, plus the fact he's not progressive at all, I just can't. Also, he has Chevalier's honor when that suits him too, even though I admit, when he decides to stick by it, he does.

Celene can be an as*hole, but it'll never be her first option, if she can allow it. She's quite the as*hole once pushed against a wall with no other way of escaping it, but it's used as self-defense, rather than a go-to option against everything she has to face. She wants peace, most and foremost, and wants to maintain her country in said peace, to spare any avoidable deaths she can. It obviously pains her greatly when she has to kill the rebellion at Halamshiral, especially knowing it'll cost her the person she loves most in the world, the thing that makes her feel she still is herself : Briala. She plays the Game because it's the only thing she has ever learned her whole life, and the only thing she knows how to use to make the world less sh*tty. She's less an as*hole than everyone makes her to be, she's just stuck in the Game, always has been, always will be. And she knows what the price of the position of Empress entails, and she accepts it, even though it makes her personal life really sh*tty. In that sense, I have respect for her, cause she can make decisions that are for the Empire's good, and not her own, she's capable of decisions like that, even thought the price is always too high. She's a well-written character, that evolved the way she is because circumstances made her be that way, but still managed to not become a complete and entire as*hole in the process. People will mostly mistake her will to keep on being Empress as a thirst for power, when really, it's more a "it's gotta be me, because all other options will f*ck this country up" thing (but the thirst for power is there, for sure, still less than Gaspard). She often does what she does for the Empire first, not as much for herself first. She knows putting Gaspard on throne will just ruin all the peace she managed to bring so far.

Briala, on the other hand, is nothing like stupid. She's an idealist driven character, she wants to change things for the better, and does it with little power she can. She does more to help than anyone else can claim to. I can never hate on idealists, much less calling them stupids, because I'd rather have them try change things, than others do nothing at all and keep the status quo forever. This world was built by idealists, every stuff that helped society be less sh*tty, was made by idealists. Not by people wishing to keep things the way they were. Briala does what she does for the better of her people, and she loses herself in that cause, never once wanting anything for herself, or her own gain. She's the one having the lighter shade of grey of them three, I believe, because she thrives where everything was against her to do so, and yet remains the most empathetic and kind character in the long run.

Anyway, I just wrote a wall of text about it, and stuff I feel right now might change when I'll read the rest of TME, but it might be unlikely the changes will be drastic. I doubt you'll answer any of it with anything other than a witty short sentence, so I'll just end this by saying : agree to disagree.

COME JOIN US!

Regarding the dramz -

The gchat is definitely open for all - we always welcome more people!
<snip>
I get that this stuff is not everybody's cup of tea and it's a lot of "in-jokes". We all love Solas though and none of it is borne out of revenge. We're all sort of in a holding pattern while we wait for DLC to come out. We wouldn't have the art chat, funnies, and still be talking about the game if we didn't like his character! I personally think the jokes are seriously tame and just goofy though....so you know...stop reporting fun?

Out of likes. Don't forget Rabbitonfire's amazing art too! Like pin-up Samson. Cole being Cole! Or Electricfish and Giton's amazing fanfiction! Laurelvinyar's theory digging! Vierrae's humor and support! Delphine was in the other day and it was great. Same goes for lurker Siha. I luv u bae.

Really, anyone is free to join. And thank you Kissiebear, Mims, and Ave for moderating this moment.

I woke up to a moderator report, deleted posts and saw red. I've tried to avoid talking about the drama of the past week in the thread itself entirely, but that was too far.

I apologize for making anyone uncomfortable or hurting anyone's feelings. I simply couldn't roll over and take it anymore, now that moderators were getting involved.

Hm. There's one really weird thing though. Not a single piece of Carrie or Liz's art is directed at a person. Rabbitonfire did a picture of Cole in a bikini and nobody reported it. There was also a pic of Samson in a bikini with a Cullen waifu pillow and no protest. So why is it that the censor bat comes for the art poking fun at Solas?

IMHO, it's not about context. It's just straight up "protecting" your pixel husbando.

I'm not so sure about that. There have been a few people throughout the last week that mentioned being confused or felt the posts might have been in mean spirit. I'm not saying that that was the intention- but I don't think its just a simple matter of 'u talkin **** bout mai husbando111'??

When there's a lot of posts towards a certain theme, the joke starts to be less about [X] character, and more along the line of: 'haha, you like that guy.' That makes people feel uncomfortable, or they feel compelled to react. The age demographics of this thread are likely all over the place. Not everyone is going to take a mature approach to it all.

That said- this is part of the problem why just reporting posts solves nothing. We're left to guess what is going on here.

I think if all three characters were starting from a level playing field irrespective of gender, race or class Briala would be a company director, Celene would be middle management and Gaspard would be the janitor...

I'd think it would be because he's a warrior who doesn't think it wise to waste time with silly parties when an immortal threatens to take the world.

Personally, I'll always respect the person who does not lie about being the **** he is, rather than the one who pretends to be anything but, while burning down an alienage for political gain. Meanwhile the other little **** actually can get back together despite this, and to me makes her the lowest of the low.

Gaspard may be an ass, but at least he's not a yellow belly.

Man I feel like I should be offended by this but I'm all offended out by this point in my day.

I don't disrespect your opinion. In fact, I feel as though my own opinion is a bit blinded as to personal feelings to certain personality types. I have always been rather more direct in my dealings with people (a fact I'm sure you're by now aware). I'm unsure what part of TME you're in, so it's hard to say how much you know or do not know, but I suggest you talk to me after you're finished, as I'm sure we could have a friendly, intelligent conversation over it.

I do have more to offer than my charming wit and personality.

And I shall make an effort to get on gchat tonight. Once. :) But not now, I'm at work.

I loved TME, but to be entirely honest, it sort of drove me crazy how much information and character insight from that book should have been in the game.  I know not everyone likes the plotty, dialogue-driven nature of Wicked Eyes, and that quest does have some problems with its implementation.  But there should have been more there, something to inform us about what Celene, Briala, and Gaspard are like beyond a few lines of dialogue.  These are the three most influential, important people in the Empire.  Plus the Dowager, members of the Council of Heralds...and unless you dig through codices or read the book beforehand, the characterization is so thin.  Especially for Briala.

Basically I wanted DA:I to have more politics and Wicked Eyes to be about twice as long and intricate as a quest chain  :P
