Well...I haven't read TME yet...I have it sitting on my bookshelf..so I will read it eventually. My two complete play throughs..I have picked Celene. I exile Gaspard..maybe someday he will raise an army and invade..I don't care. I hate Orlais. I pick Celene because I came to the party to save her life..I also like her dress. There..that's all..I like her dress..that's why.

My first playthrough I picked the b****slap all 3 option because it was just so very satisfying sticking it to them. Though that's really not what's best for Orlais; having all three tugging in separate directions is sure to bring trouble in the future. It's basically just a reset to the situation before TME and DA:I, except now Celene and Briala are also at odds with one another too.
IMO Briala comes off the worst for not having read TME, though all three characters suffer. A lot of TME is from her perspective, and it really helps to humanize her. I don't agree with a lot of the stuff she's done (prolonging a destructive civil war for starters), but I can understand why she did it. In the game, it comes off as a pure power play, which it really isn't. She's a little like Solas in some ways, paving the road to hell with good intentions.
Heavens I feel both of you~ I probably dislike Gaspard the least simply because he's amusing, but I did not want to see any of the three of them in power. It was like choosing between a fox, a snake, and a chicken-murdering-virus to guard your chickens.
I should probably get to reading it at some point in the distant distant future because life is busy and that's not a priority , but we'll see how I feel about them afterwards D: (Michel though~)

Concerning WEWH I think a conflict where you can't get anywhere close to the whole picture is kind of interesting. I remember back in Origins I felt like I could just barely figure out who to side with as the king of Orzammar, and it had such far ranging consequences for the dwarves that it intensified the conflict, for me.

Her character development sucks in the game, so much that people even hated her there, while loved her in TME. I think I kinda hated her the least in Wicked Hearts, but was still really "meh" about her, but after reading TME, she definitely shines the best there, in my opinion.
The problem IMO is that Briala is a much more conflicted character than Celene or Gaspard. The impressions I got of them from DA:I were simplistic, but IMO consistent with how they were presented in the book. Briala just had me thinking, "WTF? I barely recognize you."

Egocentric, sure. Dim, no. Sexist, probably. The first and last are irrelevant, however.
For some reason Gaspard is slowly transforming into Tony Abbott in my head now D:
I'm personally not a fan of military-minded rulers simply because expansionary policies are never sustainable ones, but given you explicitly don't care about Orlais I suppose your support of sexy Gaspard is a valid one
Gaspard isn't even married is he? He hangs around with other chevaliers rather a lot...

Indeed
Like that quote from Heartbreak Ridge. "You should be sealed in a case that reads break glass only in the event of war."
He wouldn't be my choice in a time of peace, but this isn't that, and his expansionary policies can be avoided anyway. And anyway, my job as inquisitor is temporary. Save the world at all costs, then let the snakes and dogs sort the rest out themselves. I'll help keep the peace where I can but saving the world and keeping people in check comes first. I'd rather do so with no nonsense than wiping nobles' asses and catering to them like spirit Cole. I'm not a babysitter.

I've always viewed Briala a bit like Cersei...at least the Cersei in the books. You pity Cersei's station and can empathize with her desire to lead but can't because she's a woman, however she's so bad at it. She's terrible with power. Same thing with Briala. She's idealistic and her goals are admirable and she does SOME good things, however, she's just not...good at being a revolutionary. Sera is better at it than she is.

My worry with him is though you would be at odds with him eventually. There is only one army that should be feared in Thedas and that should be mine. You need to cripple the governments...or defang them.
Your army is less feared than your information and connections, no matter the choice, and doesn't celene stop backing you after the game is done?

Truthfully, if I had my way I'd have locked all 3 idiots in the Winter Palace and played Rains of Castamere, Walder Frey style.
I kind of wish the Venatori spies locked the doors and Cory's dragon burned the Palace down...

I have trouble liking characters in that series because they all die. Maybe Arya at this point and the faceless dude she hooks up with that(hooks up as in meets up with not...you know).

Not every time. No. Regardless she's not respected by the chevaliers. She's not a military leader and neither is Briala(who is a bumbling fool). You have the backing of Ferelden and possibly Tevinter depending on who you chose to side with in that Nevarra/Tevinter quest and if you were a human noble, you may have both. That's 3 countries that hate Orlais, you army against prissy Celene and worthless Briala and her army of sacraficial lamb-elves.

1) KEVIN SORBO. Literally my type. (Especially from 1985-2005). Hand that nordic man a battle axe and he could lay claim to my castle any day.
2) Phallus tree was definitely on topic. It was a visual metaphor for the tree of life and thereby the growth of character one incurs during the path of existence. Like characters on the hero's journey. There are times and seasons for action and inaction.
Also, women used to gather phalli as a source of power. Much like elfroot. Or Flemeth's chicken:

I don't recall doing that, no, but I am often misunderstood due to the fact that I have odd phrasing, but that's my brain, which doesn't make sense. The only thing I recall doing earlier that was remotely psychologist-y was talking about my own experience with ADD, but if that isn't what you are referring to, then idk. I have been awake since about 4 hours before I meant to be, so my memory may be a little shoddy right now.Okay cause I thought you were still trying to monitor someone's FF not too long ago. But if you say so I guess it must be so.
Carry on Solas thread. Let's accept each other.
Regardless, I would like to move past this point and hope that I do not become a thorn in anyone's side in the future. As much as I love a good bad guy, I hate being seen as the antagonist.

This. Also Felassan. I'm glad I read TME before DAI or I feel I'd've been lost during WEWH.
Ah yes, Felassan. One of the best characters in TME, IMO. ![]()

Now the question is -- Who is the fox, who is the snake, and who is the chicken-murdering-virus among the 3 of them? ![]()

I remembered on my very first playthrough (having not read TME yet mind you), my first impressions of Briala was that she was very shady. Like I didn't trust her AT ALL. xD And I didn't trust Gaspard either, so I made Celene rule alone. And the fact that I didn't gather enough blackmail material because I'm incompetent also helped with that decision. ^__^;
Yes, Briala wasn't presented in a very good light in DAI.
Though even after reading TME I still don't like her very much.
EDIT: I got ToP again?! What?! Hmm, what do I post?
Here, have a smiling Solas.

Totally get where you are coming from. If that's what the issue is, then that's something that can be addressed!
When I asked people to talk a little less about other characters, I was mocked. Whether Uire's comments were in jest last night or not, she was trolled and mocked - I sincerely doubt those were the only two instances of it happening. It honestly looks like there are some subjects that you can't have a dissenting opinion about in this thread without being crucified for it. It wouldn't surprise me if someone felt that their concerns actually couldn't be addressed here.
