I think that Sheryl is being serious, she's trying to help folk by letting them know now. I'd say, if we end up getting the info after this, it will be from the forum backlash to this latest tidbit. But I won't be holding my breath for anything. 

 

I'm probably dropping off the forums NOW as I don't want any of the actual mystery of the game ruined for me. *feeling very put out and annoyed right at the moment* What a colossally stupid move on marketing's part, seriously.

 

I'll probably still stop by my page here to check notifications, update my status, and answer PMs. So, I will possibly also poke my head in here. But I've found myself with less and less that I felt was worth bothering to post. So, I'll be here in spirit, guys, but don't be surprised if I'm not too talkative.

18. Out of our romanceable companions so far we have two warriors (Iron Bull and Cassandra) , one mage (Dorain), and one rogue (Sera). There’s a decent chance that for balancing sake the final two LI’s are a mage and rogue respectively. Since Cole has been confirmed as unromanceable that leaves Varric to fill the final rogue slot.

19. At the GaymerX “Building Better Romances” panel, a dev said that there were “3 straight optons, a couple bi options and a couple of gay options.” Perhaps Vivi is the bi options and Varric is the straight option

I feel a bit bad. I haven't planned to romance Solas, to save from disappointment. So I don't really share the irritation over LI status.

Well, that puts the nail in the coffin then, I reckon.

 

Gonna have to sit down and do some real, deep, role-play soul-searching to decide what my first playthrough will be, since I do not have the one piece of information I really, really wanted and needed in order to make that decision an easy one.

Guys, we don't know why they're keeping them a mystery, there could be a multitude of reasons that they can't tell us. The forums are on edge lately, I get it. I still think they should get it out of the way as soon as possible so that the disappointed fans of the non-romanceable characters aren't bitter at the games release, but as I said earlier, we're a niche group so I understand if they don't.

 

 

Agreed. Honestly, this puts me more at ease. With six other LI's being announced, I expected the last two to be, as well. Now that I know this isn't necessarily be the case, I can relax when the conventions occur. (It sounds weird when I type it out, but it does actually make me feel better, paradoxically.) I'm thinking the last two LI's are rather spoilery in some way--related to their gating, perhaps--and so they don't want to get into it just yet.

 

I still hope they do announce them, but this takes away an edge of anxiety I've been feeling. Which is... odd, because I definitely feel I'm more of a Sole Train rider now (sorry, Cullen).

They haven't balanced LI classes in recent games, why do it now?

DA:O : 1 Mage (Morrigan), 2 Rogues (Zev and Leli) and 1 Warrior (Alistair)

DA2: 2 Mages (Merrill and Anders)1 Rogue (Isabela) if you count Seb and Tallis then 3 and one Warrior (Fenris)

Aveline a romance, ehh I wouldn't count it, personally, and Varric? Not a romance in DA2. Even so, they didn't balance it in DA:O.

No worries! I didn't read it as grumpy. I understand that people are getting anxious about the last two LIs and getting more information in general and I was just hoping to temper expectations a little bit. Sometimes it seems that the lingering hope that you'll hear something soon ("Today? Maybe tomorrow? Oh god, I don't want to go to bed!") is what makes the wait especially painful. I figure, well, if you think it's not coming and allow your mind to move on to other things, and then something does get revealed, then it's a happy surprise!

Think I'm going to make a human female mage who romances Cullen the first playthrough, if we actually won't know the LI until the game launches!

In regards to #18: "a couple" = 2.
3 str + 2 gay + 2 bi = 7
7 /= 8
 
Also, that was, oh gosh what was her name, the person who dealt with the funds and making sure everyone came in on budget and stuff. Um. I can't remember. Robin, something. Anyway, she was talking about Voice Casting, and how you want variety in romances and how the actors can bring variety to a character who needs it. Very off the cuff. Happens at about 29:20 in the Building a Better Romance video. The fact that she said "three straight" makes me think there aren't three straight characters. Made-up things tend to have too much information in them.

In regards to #19: They've never had romances balanced totally on classes in their games before. And especially now, when they're adding in race-gating, it would be difficult to make sure the spread was even if they were so worried about it. Also consider that romancing a rogue vs romancing a warrior isn't such big difference. There is, however, something to be said about romancing mages. It's also why I think class-gating would simply be a case of "does the character diddly-do mages or not". So if there is going be a class that get's over represented, it would probably end up being mages.

And on the subject of that list, it's kind of a double edged sword, we created it because we're in the same boat as you guys and sometimes we hit rock bottom, it's for us to feel better about Varric's chances, not to upset other people.
