This is amazing. It almost begs to have a short story written for it.
And you do it again...you Amaze me. I love your pics.
Aahh thank youuu
I'd love to read a story for this!

Um, what? I wasn't being sarcastic. I was saying that it may not have anything to do with Solas and it also might have everything to do with Solas because we don't know the context.
But clearly you need to get something off your chest, so go ahead.
No I don't have anything on my chest....except my boobs. Anyways I guess I just misunderstood, you can easily think someone is being sarcastic with you on the internet(sometimes),so I apologize.

Roxy, didn't we have this conversation before about how not everybody's out to get you?
I'm sure this religious conversation's got you on edge, but calm down. I don't have a single problem with you. Not one.
To help ease some of the panic...maybe. The other day he tweeted that he'd mentioned to Karin that he was thinking about killing off one of his characters, she replied with icy hands in his armpits. Hope that helps... This was novel related.
I played both versions and also decided to go with the latter... I was very pleased when Cory said I was pathetic because I was wearing slave markings... Take that Cory!!! Die!
I always keep it. I have such a complicated relationship with that vallaslin now...or at least my Lavellan does. I likes the headcanon for it much better.
Also yes to Cory being told by a "slave".

Whoa...I didn't say that anybody was out to get me this was between you and me and I apologized. Throwing this type of reply to me just makes me think you do have a problem with me.

Was this the face that launched a thousand fics???
Come Solas, give me a kiss...
Maria13 [begging the forgiveness of Christopher Marlowe]
Possibly nothing. Weekes is also writing a book and tweets about the book. It really isn't likely related because they probably have to be really tightlipped on what's coming next for the game.
I'm half inclined to believe Weekes likes messing with his fans. The guy's evil, I'm certain!
All hail Weekes.
So... are elven ears an erogenous zone? Inquiring minds want to know.
Many fan fic writers seem to think so... from what I have read.

Yes this is what I think too. I think he will always take an opportunity to mess with Solas fans. All in good fun of course.

So much catching up to do! Phew~ Again, I am religious - I'm Christian - but I don't completely agree with your assessment of what a society without Westernized conceptions of religion would look like.
There is this idea in political philosophy called a "social contract" - the assumption is, that at t=0, humanity existed in what is called a "state of nature," an origin/starting state in which freedom is absolute and that there are no artificial rules or limitations upon human behavior (beyond the natural ones of physics/biology/etc). Unfortunately, under a "state of nature," there is no "right" except the right of strength/power - a strong man will take the food that a weaker man is holding, weaker men can come together to kill a strong man, etc. Man is free to do whatever he/she/they believes is in their own self interest. Absolute freedom.
However, a "state of nature" is only the equilibrium state of the world without cooperation - meaning the state of the world under which people do not recognize that they can achieve higher levels of happiness/satisfaction/security/etc. by voluntarily working together. So, being rational, reasonably intelligent beings, people come together to form "social contracts" - agreements in which all people voluntarily give up some measure of their freedom for a certain measure of security (security of their person/security of their possessions/etc.) - and we enter the equilibrium state of the world with cooperation, a cooperative outcome.
Many of the basic morals that we see across society arise from this "social contract" that we form with other humans - the illegality of murder, theft being the most obvious ones - and, while they definitely have morally philosophical arguments in their favor, are not values that we hold out of a sense of morality, but rather out of a sense of necessity. Most fundamental human morals exist because, at some point in the past, we recognized that they are beneficial codes/regulations on behavior.
tl;dr: Basic human decency isn't so much about morality or religion or hope as it is about survival
I do agree that there isn't any purpose in disproving the existence of God/gods - but I agree because, at the current state of our knowledge and understanding of the universe, we cannot disprove God (to use the Christian one as a stand in here). But, as someone who is religious, and who loves her God dearly, if it could ever be proven, beyond a doubt, that God does not exist, I would want to know. Faith simply means, for me, personally, believing in God until that point, if it ever comes, where the proof is irrefutable and my faith becomes untenable. After all, loving God means possessing a desire to know God, and desiring to know God implies a wish to understand all of the evidence for and against His existence, to test your own understanding of His nature. Saying you love God yet burying your head in the sand and refusing to consider any evidence that challenges your perception of God isn't love - it's implicitly saying that God must exist as you see Him as existing. Arrogance ![]()
Fundamentally, I don't think you can set out into an understanding of the world/universe at large with an agenda like proving/disproving the existence of God - having an agenda fundamentally biases one's ability to interpret and accept facts. Rather, let us approach these questions with an open mind, asking them for their own sake and accepting the answers as they are, without trying to squeeze them to fit a certain ideological framework~
I am as well. That is one thing I find fascinating about the Qun, but I could never put it into words until I read yours. It's very interesting how in contrast to the religious despair of the rest of Thedas, who are constantly addressing deities that don't answer (the elves, the Chantry, even Corychauffeur), the Qun finds meaning in the role one fulfills within society. I think it's a frame of mind that the Western audience of Bioware is not used to and I love that there is an ingame civilization devoted to it.
Yes~ Those are my favorite religions to study in this world as well. While I do subscribe to Christianity's tenet that salvation is through faith alone - that man is incapable of truly overcoming our basic nature without the aid of the divine (man is inherently good, but self interested) - I also believe that in this world, the temporal one, true progress comes from being interested in humanity and not in concern over what came before and what comes after.
Because one placing human-made explanations of such unanswered questions above anything else, is to me, an act of arrogance as well, and one I have difficulties to cope with.
As Humans, we are very limited to begin with. Our brain, even though a magnificent thing, is limited. Our senses, sight, touch, hearing, and whichever we have to interact with the world we live in, are limited. Everything we perceive, any electrical signs that goes in and out of our brain, is just pure plain and simple interpretation, our entire reality being made by interpretations of perceived signals.
Nothing is "real", nothing is THE truth, because everyone perceives, understands and feels in their own ways. My arrogance is merely a knee-jerk response, to the much bigger arrogance that most human beings have about their perceived reality. We are so limited in our understanding of the universe, be it on the microscopic, or macroscopic levels, that people wanting to explain it in certain ways that they see fit, and impose it to the rest of us, irritates me greatly.
How could someone stand up, and dare to say they know the truth? What truth is it, besides theirs? Not mine, definitely.
Sadly, that's how I feel most religions interact. They pretend to know a truth, and that their truth is better than the next one, and they'll go at length to pretend their truth is indeed what they claim it is.
The human body is at once a magnificent machine and ridiculously limited tool. So when humans gather and pretend, that with the limited tool that their body is, they know the truth, I can't help but cringe. Although, that can be said about atheists being fiercely sure that gods don't exist at all. Except that atheists have yet to oppress people in History with their own truth, so I don't tend to judge them as harshly.
I suppose a lot of this comes down to "what is truth exactly?" I'm not a philosopher - I've taken a few religions classes, all in the Asian sphere, and I have some background in political science, mostly focused on the foundations of the U.S. political system, but I'm an economist by training, so this isn't a question I am really equipped to debate about (my natural habitat is more akin to: "how can firm A make the most money in a market that takes this form with competitors B, C, and D?")
However, I do believe that, despite our limitations (and I definitely agree with you that humanity is limited - in fact, I think, most educated Christians would agree with you that humanity is oh so very limited in our ability to understand the universe and existence), there are certain things that are true. I don't feel capable of explaining this in the form of philosophical debate, but I think there are truths that can be held to be "self-evident" simply because they conform to our "natural" reaction. To use an example by someone much wiser than I can ever hope to be, Mengzi gives the example of the child in the well. "Who," he asks, "upon seeing a child fall into a well, would not feel concern?" It is only afterwards, when our initial reaction has passed, that our other concerns begin to warp our perception/judgment of the situation ("oh, I am scared of heights" "oh someone else will help surely" "I can't climb down there, I'm not strong enough" "that child shouldn't have been playing by the well to begin with" etc etc) This, I believe, is the truth - humanity's instinctive, fundamental inclination towards goodness and caring for others. It can be warped and distorted by our experiences in life, but I believe that this "conscience" or, as Confucius defined it, "benevolence," is the means through which we can determine moral truth in this world.
(I'm not sure anything I wrote makes any sense any more ... I think I'll just go back to my growth models and finance theory)

Damnit, I wished my ears were more sensitive now. Cause I can't relate to that, at all :/

Mine are, especially when unexpected. It's like a very soft tickle, but it's quick to get used to and feel nothing from it. x(
Sooooo...I went back to Kelgrid's tumblr and saw this. I don't think anybody has posted this.
Can't get tinypic to upload it so here is the link.

All right, now that I've a moment. Before work this morning, I was inclined to re-watch portions from the Temple of Mythal sequence.
The idea was to pick up a certain character's mannerisms for possible fanfiction, but instead it got me thinking. These have probably been talked over before, but...
Remember when you enter the Temple proper and the ancient elves activate/fall back behind the dragon statues? Corypheus is caught by and briefly destroyed by this weapon or barrier. Of course he commandeers another blighted body and pops right back up, but I wonder whether this might be a significant weapon. Perhaps it would harm or destroy anyone not wanted in the Temple, but what if it were specifically to stop blighted life forms from entering?
Also, when Solas speaks to Abelas for the final time, the part where he totally does not tell him he hopes he finds a new name, we know what you said dude. Abelas nods in response, very slightly, just once. Abelas acknowledges him without another word. But I don't believe Abelas is the type, after all this time and pain, to accept a platitude. Anyway, I hadn't noticed the little nod before and I got excited, haha.
(edit: Solas basically tells Abelas: "Your story does not end here, it is within you," which Abelas acknowledges.)
