*de-lurks* This is my Lavellan I recently made to replay the Solas romance. Her name is Aela, after Aela the Huntress in Skyrim
Spoiler
She reminds me of Jack from Mass Effect.. I mean her face shape. Don't get me wrong. I think Jack looks sexy as hell.
On topic: Anyone think Solas can play an instrument, or would be interested in learning? He's probably too academically focused to spend the time, imo. Have we even seen any instruments other than the lute in the games? I honestly can't remember.
In his younger days, he totally played the lute and he totally used it to pick up the ladies.
Solas: Hey want to come back to my place? I'll make you some tea.
Lady: You hate tea.
Solas: (wink, wink)
[As they wait for the tea to brew, Solas brings out his lute and plays Wonderwall followed by Dust in the Wind]
Solas: The lyrics are so profound.
Lady: Yes.
Solas: Like, they move me, like you move me . . .
(Those were the only two songs Solas bothered to learn.)

I'm fairly certain the elf is indeed Solas. He's really good at feigning ignorance when it suits his purpose. I just wonder why he wouldn't give the full translation, because he quiet obviously could if he wanted to.
First I'd like to say I re-read the codex you originally provided, and I misread it originally so I apologise for that. I'm realising now that whoever wrote the inscription is the same person who provided the translation. This makes me wonder if perhaps the writer wrote different words for the different people who may read it? If so, then what you say would be correct.
As for what I'm saying, my best guess for what "I am" in the translation is is that it's what changes "solas" from "pride" to "arrogance". I think it's either:
Emma has multiple meanings depending on where it's at in the sentence
or
It's being used in a way we've not seen it before. Ancient Elven for "arrogance" could be "emma solas", similar to how in French "une pomme de terre" (lit. "apple from the earth") = "potato"
I hope this makes sense, I'm not the most eloquent person around.
or or the devs are just adding in bits of Elvien grammar and structure that we've never seen before to keep us on our toes.
Well the guy who made the Game of Thrones language isn't impressed with DA's Elven
http://dedalvs.tumbl...agon-ages-elven
As far as I can tell from the wiki page, it’s basically an English cipher, with, perhaps, someone over there figuring out word types (e.g. noun vs. verb vs. adjective). Using restaurants as an analogy, it looks like the rough equivalent of, say, a guy selling burritos out of the back of his car, maybe? You may like them (depending on where you get them, homemade burritos can be excellent), but it wouldn’t be appropriate to compare it to the fare at a five star restaurant—or even a two star food truck.
For those who don’t create languages, I know it seems like it’s really difficult to create a language, but it’s actually very simple to create a bad one. If you decide that word order will decide which is the subject and which the object, you can create word forms for every single word in English, and, bam! New language. E.g.:
frondel = dog
zesten = cat
an = the
drok = chase
-ut = -ed
An frondel drokut an zesten.
"The dog chased the cat."
You can probably create a computer program to generate a thousand of these an hour. You can get slightly more complicated and make up kooky definitions for word forms, like zlefik, “the emotion one feels upon realizing that one wasn’t paying attention when a stranger entered the room and made their initial salutations to those in attendance”, but it doesn’t make the language more interesting. It’s still basically a coded form of English.
So, to answer the question, the language is not one like mine or that a conlanger would make, but given the type of creation it is, it can probably generate a large vocabulary rather quickly, and can be used for translation. It won’t be worthy of note, but if one likes it, then one can certainly enjoy using it.
i feel so good right now, because my color perspective was almost correct.
To think, if someone didn't have the brightness turned up so high on their potato, we would have missed out on all of the "fun" tonight. #dressgate2015
Seriously ladies, stop with the over exposed pictures, you ain't foolin' anyone. Turn yo damn brightness down, it's ok.(My younger sister is one of those that likes to turn the brightness way up on the camera on her phone. Well only when it's a selfie. It's so funny when she takes pictures on her rear camera and all of a sudden everything looks normal.)

Young!Solas as a guitar lute douche. Headcanon accepted.
I checked the light "gold" (as I see it) and the light "blue", it's in that color scope, independent of the monitor.
The darker shades are the same color range, only slightly different and, of course, darker.
The color pick of the "blue" is in the background color, so it's some sort of dirty "bluish gray".
Spoiler
I've seen both the blue and black and the white and gold on the same monitor now. In fact, when I saw this picture, it was white and gold, and now in the quote box it's blue and black again. So weird. I'm just going with optical trickery, I really have no idea. ![]()
I like to think what he couldn't tell Lavellen, he tells his secrets to his waifu pillow. It's a sort of a way to vent of whatever is pent up.
edit: oh, I made myself sad.
Solas (to waifu pillow): Vhenan, when we were speaking in the grove. When I began with your face...
Solas: ...
Solas: Well, I was struggling to find the right words. But...
Solas: What I must tell you. The truth.
Solas: Your face... is not very nice.

I'm kinda preoccupied and I haven't been following all the elven translation talk, but page 29 of WoT has a translation of an elven song that's interesting where the subject matter is concerned. The meaning isn't always the direct literal translation of the words, but when you look at it from the idea of elvish being about "intent", it makes some sense.

OOHH I really like this. *0* I completely concur with the colours they've attributed to each of them. Lovely.
I can definitely see Solas playing a musical instrument, he has the mind for it. I can imagine him playing the piano (as a piano player myself I am totally not biased in my thinking thatOn topic: Anyone think Solas can play an instrument, or would be interested in learning? The German voice acting in ME1 was so bad, I can't stop laughing watching it on YT (had the UK version). They used two different voice actors for Sheploo in German. The second one was better. ME2 was much better overall. I guess ME1 wasn't big enough a title to hire skilled actors.
I don't think one can tell bad VA if in a different language but I'll link it anyway:

On topic: wouldn't trade Solas' English voice for anything.
Eh, italian Male Shep have to change VA too in ME2. But not because Moneta was bad (in fact, he returned for ME3) but because he had a bad motorbike incident. So Giacomo Zito had to take his place, and redo all the work Moneta had already made until that moment (he had already voiced something like half game or so, if I remember right...). The result wasn't bad, but not very emotional either.
I loke Solas english voice too. But I can't wait to have the chance to make the subs bigger. Now they are a pain to read on my tv.
It's bad when I come on here and read posts about glitterific god elves and think Solas is the only god that is the voice of reason.
I just about think he is... He is the calm voice of reason in a maelstrom of madness and egocentricity...

How did you manage to get that armour so early in the game?
And are there any modders in this forum who know how to replace the f!Keeper Robes model with either this one or the longcoat version that male elves gets?
And pretend you get a like from me for using the best version of the Skyhold PJs mod.

I am fairly certain that it's as mentioned before, your brain either interprets it as what the eye sees (white/gold) and is done with it, or "analyzes" the background, deduces an overexposition filter on the pic, and hence adapts its interpretation to the "more realistic" setting (blue/black).
Wow I actually saw it as white and gold for a split second from your picture. That along with the explanation makes sense now.
@Colonelkillabee: I know you like cassandra, so I want to let you know someone i follow is livestreaming a cassandra fanart. It's pretty nice.
Aww, missed it ![]()
I hope someone's on the art chat Friday/today. (:
I have 2 pages written of a new fic involving some Fen'Harel and Falon'Din interaction, and I definitely want to get some peer review and comments before I finish the rest.
So I was watching GamerMD83's video on Solas and, I even though I don't agree that Solas is Felassan, I think she's right about the orb.
Her theory was that Solas gave Coryphfrick the orb because 1) he was too weak to unlock the power and 2) He legitimately thought that Cory wouldn't survive after trying to unlock it.
This makes sense to me because he says, he shouldn't have survived and "it wasn't supposed to happen this way.
What do you guys think?
I think I agree for the most part, I would postulate that Solas was unaware of quite how powerful Cory was, powerful enough to survive the blast, I mean... Having been asleep for a thousand years.
