Never heard of it actually, might have to take a look now.

It also means they probably won't be bringing time travel back, which is for the best i think.  Few things have more potential for convolution than time travel plots.

Well worth a look if you like heavy, oblique sci-fi...

That was one of them, yes. And of course it'd be from TME. I need to step up my game and get Asunder finished. xD

Mims, I've said this before, but you're a sweetheart. <3 Thank you. :)

No problem! We go off in rambling, but there's usually some basis in whatever tangent we've gone off on. It might not be correct in the longrun, but there's an origin somewhere.

I'd go for something that is kind of psychologically terrifying. Like if you crossed "despair" Galadriel with something that hits the corner of your mind, that you think you can see from the corner of your eye, but fills you with dread at the very notion... and when it reveals itself you're already halfway to complete awe-struck horror and... adulation? Worship? Something. Not sure where I'm going with this. Maybe what I should be doing is getting more coffee.

Ahhh okay! I think I get what you mean. Cthulu-mind-bending-terror? That COULD work, but I'd probably apply that aesthetic to the demons of the Dragon Age world. So bummed they didn't make the Forbidden Ones more unique in their design. Sigh.

I think what terrifies me more are things that are INTELLIGENTLY insane/ psychotic/ sociopathic. It's just that bit human that makes you question yourself, question them and their intention, and their very human unpredictability. They might have pity on you, they might feel an emotion, but it's a fleeting moment. And then the madness kicks in.

While creatures or things in the dark are frightening, I think man's capacity for evil is the most horror inducing thing I can imagine. Definitely get what the stuff from the corner of your eye and the like appeals to you though! Definitely a good source of inspiration.

Okay, I am a weak person, I have strange headcannons. So I have a good excuse to draw Elgar'nan for myself , in all his glittery and feathery glory *insert insane laughter here*

That's why the Deep Roads quest will ALWAYS be the worst for me.  Branka was pretty much the worst sort of monster.  I like the demons in the series, but this game sort of made them suck a bit - Envy was great but I really miss the mind-games Sloth played with you in DA:O.

This.

What is truly terrifying is the prospect of a mortal confronting the Divine and seeing the horror of his own reflection. The elvhen pantheon has the potential to enact such a gaze. That would be a powerful story. The villains would be fully-toothed but understandble--terrifying in their excess but with motivations that are not alien, with desires that are all too familiar,

Moreover, yes the "glitter pantheon" is hyperbolic, but even so, it speaks to a primal sense of power, eros, excess, and tragic decay. There are so many tantalizing pieces of pantheon's story: the relationship between Dirthamen and Falon'Din as something so poetic and deep and tragic and dark. That they are forever interlaced. It's thorny and compelling. Andruil's story. The tale of Ghil'nain's apotheosis, which marries scientific discovery to horror to sublime and sacred knowledge.

The Inquisition, in game, is very concerned with questions of power and how powerful institutions change the arc of history. Cassandra asks if you are doomed to repeat the past. Solas struggles with the proposition that change can actually happen. Can the march of history actually be progressive, or will it just circle back on itself like a snake eating it's own tail?

Making them alien horrors would be so, so disappointing. See also gross, boring robes. DO NOT WANT.

Also, I am on the Falon'Din/Dirthamen/whoever ship and I am not getting off.

So much this.  Where is Jon Irenicus when you need him?  The a**hole tortured my PC and her sister, killed two of her friends, stole her soul, stalked her nightmares, trapped her in a magical prison, laid siege to an elven city, and dragged them both down to hell.  He was probably the most terrifying villain I've ever experienced in a video game, and yet in all that mess, there were flashes of the person he'd been before.  It was a wonderful storyline of staring into the abyss and seeing a person looking right back at you.

You can sign up for patch 6 if you wish to. It won't include the black emporium, but maybe you're interested in testing :)

Yes, this. With a bit of the mind-bending terror. Not so much because who can comprehend a god or anything like that, but because if it's going to be something that is seriously wtf powerful, it should be a bit terrifying to look upon and understand. The mind will try to fit it into something it can make sense of, but when the reality keeps messing with itself and you can't begin to figure out what is going on, it seems the perfect situation for a powerful, mad being to toy with the fragile mortals.

Not sure that can easily translate to a game like Dragon Age, or is anything close to what we will see, but after the end battle with Corypheus I was a bit disappointed at the lack of... anything. No emotion, no fear, no real sense of accomplishment. And he started out so awesome in Haven, too...

Ugh. Yes. Sloth. Branka.

Hands down my favorite villains.

And with Envy - the reason why that couldn't resonate as deeply is 1) it was just you alone - you didn't get to see how it tried to overpower your companions. 2) The game didn't give you enough time prior to the Breach to develop a personal prologue - it couldn't feed off of your past, who you were and thereby who you were going to become because there simply wasn't enough information for it to work with that was canon.

Yes, when Envy was like, "And you will march on Orlais!!" My inquisitor was like, "Good." (Although that particular option was missing from the dialogue wheel).

I hope someone's on the art chat Friday/today. (:

I have 2 pages written of a new fic involving some Fen'Harel and Falon'Din interaction, and I definitely want to get some peer review and comments before I finish the rest.

That was several pages ago, but I'd definitely be interested in betaing it for you, if you want :D

Ok I just finished TME and I need to hear what you think the relationship between Felassan and Fen'Harel is.

I know there are those who think Felassan was Fen'Harel in another body? I dont think I buy that though...he was way too big a fan.
And it seems like people generally think it was FH that Felassan was talking to in the fade at the end?
Aaahhh I want to hear the most outlandish crazy theories because I am BAD at connecting lore dots...

They still haven't released the patch notes, so I don't know, sorry!

Edit: actually, even if they had, I'm not sure everyone could see them. It's probably only for the beat testers for now, I think?

R.I.P. Leonard Nimoy, an undoubted inspiration for Solas...

He was. So sad :crying:

I can definitely see Solas playing a musical instrument, he has the mind for it. I can imagine him playing the piano (as a piano player myself I am totally not biased in my thinking that ). Playing an instrument can enhance your focus.

I was actually kinda sad to see that Skyhold tavern didn't have a piano/harpsichord/whatever the thedosian equivalent would be.

My music loving heart skips a beat (read: I get a girl boner) at the thought of Solas being gifted with any instrument, but then my meanie brain butts in with the thought that it seems unlikely for him to also be highly talented in that regard when he's already extremely cerebral, eloquent and painterly. And an Elven god, graceful, powerfully gifted in the ways of magic and general rebellious awesomeness.

But hey, my loins won't argue. Instrumental Solas would be hot.

Edit: Solas on top.

So in case people are still wondering/complaining about not knowing where the glitter gods/glitterotica came from......

No way June could be a god of craft without GLITTER  :o

Arlathan fashion advice:

raja-rupauls-drag-race-throw-some-fuckin

and thus the glitter pantheon was born.

I don't think it was Fen'Harel in the fade.  I don't know why I'm certain, but the part where he's like

Spoiler

I think he was going to say reminds him OF Fen'Harel.   It just makes sense since Felassan is like Dread Wolf's #1 fanboy and Briala and the DW are similar...in a way.  So Felassan could have been talking to another god - possibly Falon'Din. He seems to be set up to be the next villain and Solas does seem to know him personally - he slips up a bit in game.  Solas says - 'his vanity was second only to his self-regard' - like how do you know that unless you KNOW the person.  Or it could be someone else.
