I got Bull playing chess with Solas. It was pretty cute. It was after they'd already had quite a bit of dialogue establishing that they'd grown to like and respect each other, albeit in a very grudging way, full of snipping at each other when the moment was right. I never used Dorian once I recruited him- no need for two mages in my party.

I like Merrill well enough. One of the lines Hawke can say to Merrill pretty much sums up my point of view. Something along the lines of "Fear did more to hurt your clan more than anything you ever did." Merrill's actions never actually harmed anyone. Marethari assuming that they would, and sacrificing herself to "save" Merrill, certainly did.
As for her personality, cute females are not necessarily weak or childish. You can be an adorable bad ass, or strong in ways other than being macho. I think she contrasts nicely with Aveline and Isabella, and together they present an interesting diversity of personalities.
Buenas tardes. We took a little detour into discussion about another elf. Maybe we could discuss whether or not Solas' views on the Qunari influenced people to side against the Qunari alliance and save the Chargers during Iron Bull's personal quest, which does involve some emotional devastation either way?
Not influenced by Solas, no. But certainly in agreement with him. The Qun creeps me out. I don't need certainty in my life; I like questions and choices.

If I didn't insist on having at least one of everything in my setup, I'd have Solas and Dorian all the time. But then I'd be swapping the third out all the time for quests or class specific buggery (certain attacks can break doors, but not all of them) and that's really annoying. It's not too bad on my canon playthrough, since my Quizzy is a Rogue, so I can afford 2 Mages and just swap between my tanks, but then I miss Cole. ;_;

My time to shine. If you require moral support, I know an email that can assist you in your time of need. Contact here: idontcare@glitterotica.org
My caller was Steve, he was very attentive listener and comfort me in my time of need. Sorry for the signal boost.
Steve: Andaran atish'an, this is Steve; how may I help you?
Caller: FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELS!
Steve: Please, vhenan. What kind of feels are you experiencing? Are the feels like the pain and nostalgia you experience when you look into a mirror and see another man staring back at you? A man you barely recognize? You see a tired, old man where there was once a young stallion with dreams? You could have wrote the Great Dalish novel; you could have traveled to Rivain. Now you answer phones and have an emo son who refuses to hunt and sits in his room all day smoking elfroot.
Caller: FEEEELS?
Steve: Please hold, one moment.
(An elevator muzak version of "I Am the One" plays on the line)
Steve is very helpful.
(credit to the chat for Steve with lost dreams of being a novelist with crappy teenage offspring).
OK, here's my contribution to the bespangled pantheon (Falon'Din and Andruil, so far):
Spoiler
I gave it a long leash, but I tried to keep them sort of (arguably) lore-friendly... ish...

YES!!!!
Hi guys! I know it doesn't fit the current glitterotica mood, but quite some pages ago we were discussing how we would have liked our Lavellan to dress for the Orlesian ball. I remembered Spanish "bata de cola" and thought its over the top look would be interesting as inspiration for a ball dress. So here it is!
Spoiler
Btw I'm loving all the glittery interpretations of the pantheon, I will do some artwork of the sparkle gods of sex-mayhem, and it will be full-on ELVEN GLORIOUS
may try some myself.Keep up the good work!
Fixed that for you.
But seriously, you should.
Alright you fiends.

I know nothing about chess, but this is great anyway. ^^
And apparently Cullen plays chess with Leliana if Dorian is not available. I guess I'll never be seeing that in my game then... Soon, Dorian. Soon.

No. Unlike Solas, I have a less antagonostic view of the Qun. In an abstract way, there is a certain peace that comes with certainity of knowing your lot in life. In practice I don't think that ever works, but my Lavellan was at least understanding of the philosophy.
She sided with the Chargers though. She loved them too much and she knew Bull did too. We get no reason in-game - beyond vague promises of reports - to justify siding with the Qun.

If Solas influences my decision to save the Charges at all, it's for that sweet-ass chess game he has with Bull for saving them. But there's a buttload of other reasons I save the Charges every time, the biggest being Krem (
!) and my complete lack of trust in anything to do with the Qunari. Bull's okay because he's never quite sure on the Qun, but when I think of Sten and how difficult he was to get along with, I shudder at what the rest could be like.
This was precisely my own reasoning... Bull is a decent guy, I cannot allow him to do this to himself. Krem is an awesome empowering character how can we allow him to be wasted like this.
As for the Qun... I quite like it... In small doses.

Ah, yep, guess I'm not seeing that either.
I can not recruit Blackwall quite easily until I come here and feel guilty with reasoned discussion on his character! *hisses* and Sera, and Vivienne, but Dorian and Cole will never get turned away, not even on my zealot. >_<

Merrill just bugged me because of the dippy, child-in-a-woman's body trope they decided to use for her. Her and Sera. We really need an Isseya next time, if we get another elf female companion.
I would've loved Ariane to return in DAI for this reason.

I'm kind of bummed that Iron Bull's questline means that Krem probably won't be a companion in later games, since he's dead in tons of people's saves... not that that's stopped them all the time before, I suppose!

If murder knife has shown us anything, its that I don't believe a character is dead until I see them six feet under. Or on a funeral pyre. And even then there's a 50% of magically coming back and/or being a spirit.

My Lavellan was actually horrified by how antagonistic Solas was toward Iron Bull *just* for being Qunari. I can't see the Dalish having much to do with the Qunari, so Bull's the first one she's met, and he seems pretty chill. Like Sten, he's also very reasonable when you ask him about the Qun. So she honestly couldn't see why Solas had such a chip on his shoulder about the whole thing until Iron Bull's personal quest.
Then she had a bit of a Paragon!Garrus moment. "If the people I'm sworn to protect can't trust me, then I don't deserve to be the one protecting them." The Chargers are Bull's guys, but they're part of the Inquisition. Part of her responsibility. She let that dreadnought burn so fast ![]()

It's more than for him just being a Qunari. He's Ben Hassrath, secret police, not only enforcing the Qun at home but preparing the way to steamroll the rest of Thedas with it. Just the knowledge of what will happen to mages in any territory they take over is enough.
Edit to add- Initially I chose to save the dreadnought for the sake of the alliance, until it was pointed out to me that you weren't saving the mission, since the Tevinter ship was already sunk- you were just choosing who would get to walk away. It's still a tough choice to me, I'd rather do the pragmatic thing, but Lavellan being a mage tips towards the Chargers as well. For Bull, it's more poignant when you realize that Qunari have no parents or siblings, they bond with those they're put together with for duty. They're his only family.

Knowing what we know now about Solas, I see his attitude towards Bull (and the Qun) as one colored by personal history. There are theories about how the grey, horned giants first came to pass, so perhaps Solas has intimate knowledge about their creation/origins, including how the Qun came about. I think he feels bitter, resentment for another failure of his people.
Or maybe it's as simple as he doesn't approve of the "certainty" the Qun presents, because he's a nerd-rebel who aint got time for dat. (Well, I mean, he does, since... ancient elf and all...
)
From a personal standpoint, my Levellan also let that mother buuurrrn. Krem and the Chargers are her peeps. ![]()

Lol.
I like Merrill myself, but I can hardly defend her naivety or her obsession any more than I could defend Anders'. Not that I would. I can understand Anders, but that's not the same.
I just love it how you make my serious post so very dirty. *shakes head* Don't ever change.
I love Merrill, but I did find myself hitting my head on a wall the majority time she spoke. So, that isn't the same. However, at least you can understand Anders which is much more than some.
Some may forget that if Ander is rivalmanced or just your rival, Vengance/Justice takes over Anders during that time and forces him to do what he did to the Chantry. If any character should be hated...it should be Vengance, lol.

Yeah, but by the time you meet him, he's mellowed, matured and pretty much gone rogue... Oh IB still clings to the principles of the Qun, but his heart just ain't in it any longer...

I go with the alliance, the Chargers seem great in that mandated cut scene where I have to learn more about them before getting the Storm Coast quest but in theory if not gameplay working with the qunari helps the Inquisition more.
Plus I'm very meh about Bull as a character so what's good for him doesn't matter much to me.

Spoiler below is the banter if you dinnae want to click:
You know what, I think I just want another Javik. I mentioned earleir Javik and Solas have a lot of in common, that's still true, but boy more-so between our Prothy and Abelas. Whatever, make it happen, BioWare!
