Why do you assume Fen'Harel has abandoned the elves?

We don't *know* what he's doing.  Or why.  Or what he did in the past.  Or what he's going to do in the future.

One of the things I focus on, is at the end where he's talking to Mythal, he says, "the People, they need me" ... he doesn't say "My people need me."  And, typically in the Dragon Age setting, when "the People" (capital P) are referenced, it's referring to the elves.

This is going to sound weird.... but I get this overall impression that Flemeth tends to favor the current Dalish elves and Solas the ancient ones and gods. Who knows? He could mean the gods he sealed away or a group of ancient elves we do not know about. It's really hard to say. What i do know is that distinctions are made. With Abelas I think the idea that elves, as he sees them, could ever live in a forest and hide from humans is beneath him. I cannot see him ever doing that. I think he'd rather die before hiding or running or living a substandard life. He has fought to protect what he loves for thousands of years. Perhaps he sees the Dalish as cowards. Can't see him fitting in at the Orlesian court either lololol. I can imagine if you are that isolated from the world, you could not understand how anyone would allow themselves to fall so low (in his opinion). As for Solas, he is conflicted. If you romance him, he falls in love with a modern elf who has no clue what the elves were. I admire him greatly for that because, in a way, he is lowering standards. (Don't hate me for that) But in another way, he is finally opening his eyes.

Wait. Is that actually a thing? Because. Well. I need to know... For science...

It's cannon. Someone wrote a historically accurate document about this very thing. There also happen to include some artwork painted by the court artist at the time, which hung in a place of privilege in the Royal Bath-House. Here

This was a lot like another theory I had! I was talking about this months ago when this forum was super busy. I was wondering if those in Uthenera were actually those higher up in society, possibly people who could afford Uthenera.
I was equating price wise to mummification in ancient Egypt, with the poor not being able to afford the materials, space, and servants it would cost to go into Uthenera.

I was wondering if it was actually the reason he said he didn't identify with the elves of the present, because the were never truly his people, based on class. I remeber ready somewhere in the codexes about Arlathan that not all elves had immortality because the came into contact with humans, but what if not all elves had immortality, just the ones who could afford it.

*sighs*  I wish I could write original stuff as much as I want to write fan fics. If I could write my own characters and ideas with this much passion, maybe I could be an author someday.  I haven't stopped typing in days.

I guess it's because I'm still comparing it largely to origins. In that regards it's really unimpressive. Sure there was no voice for the warden, but there were much more of a nuanced feeling to it, especially because you not able to hear the vocal intonations of another person. The voices just seem a little off to me. The higher voice sounds too wierd, but the deep voice sounds too bland. Eh whatever.

I'm enjoying Origins, but I just don't feel that pull towards my Warden because of the lack of voice. I don't feel like I'm saying anything. But just in terms of options Inquisition does lack compared to Origins. Deep female voice does sound awfully bland, but I adore the posh female voice. Deep male's pretty good, don't know about posh male. x) IMO of course.

I believe that would be Crystal White by Bre'Lakor?   ^_^

Edit: Maybe?

You're absolutely right. Good memory! Have a like and a heart. <3

But then this goes back to my question of what sustained them?

Was it the contant with the veil? Was the veil not present at all, letting magic flow freely? Or did the Elvhen sustain themselves in another way, a darker way? A way that could possibly have unforeseen consequences that they would need to hide away from in Uthenera for thousands of years?

For some reason, I thought this fanart was pretty good. The abstract caricatures just makes you appreciate the characters even more. Look how the artist emphasizes their features! WITH EYES CLOSED!

Ohhh man, I feel the need to try this. I've done this occasionally for little doodles and stuff (or drawing something upside down--that's a good one, too--give it a shot, artsy types), but never of existing characters.

Dalish is a woman, not a dude.

Aye thanks, wasn't sure about it, was too lazy to check.

My sister and I call each other dude all the time, so I didn't give your initial post a second glance, Delphine. Carry on. ;P

We need more pro(?)Dalish companion luvin'.  If I had any good guesses in this brain of mine, I'd say, BW has set up Abelas to be a future companion.  I'd also like Krem...

...and I want a pet.

And Solas needs to visit me in the Fade, stupid not stupid-he's a nerd jerk.

A girl can dream...

YES I would like a pet too. Preferably... a fluffy white wolf. ಠ_ಠ

Wolves are too independent and can kill you. Mabari are loyal, friendly, and are capable of understanding human speech so can listen to you. I pick safety every time!

So just a bit of interesting reading about how the modern nations were shaped by Andraste's exalted march, and then by her betrayal.

http://dragonage.wik...on_and_Distance

http://dragonage.wik...th_of_Diversity

http://dragonage.wik...nited_in_Hatred

Maferath had 3 sons by his chattel wife, and pre-betrayal, he splits the territory conquered so far (pretty much everything south of Minrathous). He keeps only Ferelden for himself.

Evrion's story is easiest to wrap up. He's the middle son and is given the lands north of the waking sea. After the betrayal, he divides his power among local tribes in penance for his father's crime, which is why the Free Marches remain scattered and independent.

Verald's story is slightly more complicated. The youngest son, he is given the territory of modern-day Nevarra. Unlike his brother Evrion, he boasts of his connections to Andraste and Maferath, and is run out of his kingdom post-betrayal. We'll see him later on. Modern Nevarra is not formed until Caspar Pentaghast takes power in 2:46 Glory.

Isorath, the eldest,  is given the territory that later becomes Orlais. He unifies the Cirean and Inghirsh tribes and marries Jeshavis under a banner of resisting Tevinter, and essentially crushes the tribes who are resentful for being ruled over by an Alamarri in an effort to consolidate his power. Verald rallies the disaffected tribes against him (possibly with the help of Jeshavis <3) and takes power himself. He marries Jeshavis and rules until the tribes once again turn against their Alamarri lord, leaving Jeshavis as ruler over the consolidated proto-Orlais for 42 years. Modern Orlais is not formed until Kordillius Drakon came to power in -3 Ancient.

Iron Bull and Dorian do not defend their homelands the same way. Dorian admonishes some of the negative things like blood magic and everything the magisters do. (although he still defends the use of slaves, so...) Iron Bull defends everything about the Qun, even the re-educators and hates on the people who want to leave the Qun because they don't want to live that kind of life.

I get the impression he's whistling in the dark there. He doesn't really believe what he's saying, but he has to say it because if it isn't true, he loses the last shred of his identity, of his sense of belonging to something.

I both like and dislike Talis. I like how she's a qunari who is conflicted about her role in the Qun, but I hate how I can't argue with her. My Hawke was a mage and listening to Talis go on and on about she should join the Qun made me wish for the option to say 'soooo... do I sew my own mouth shut, or do you do it for me?'

The fate of non-Qunari mages would be darker. I can't find the source, but I read somewhere about a poison they use against mages in areas they subdue.

You're a mage who's been unleashed your whole life. Basically, as I understand it, you're not even a person to them- you're a shrieking piece of chaos.

P.S. Ugh... for some reason the text in my responses won't wrap anymore, so it strings out to infinity. Annoying.

Also, the Tal Vashoth that Bull has seen are the ones whose minds have basically cracked under the Qun - they're vicious, violent and kill without regard.  And Bull's greatest fear is madness.  So yeah, he's totally "I'm NOTHING like them!" because he's afraid it could happen.

As soon as the word "re-educators," any and all redeeming qualities of the Qun went up in flames--in my mind-space.

It is really an interesting term to use, considering how historically charged it is and its connection to forms of highly oppressive governments. Not that there should be any one-to-one connection between DA and the real world, and one should be careful of making any sweeping analogies. But THAT word.

Re-education. NOPE. NOPE. NOPE.

(Side-note, which might color my reading: My good friend works at an NGO in Seoul helping North Korean refugees acclimate to South Korean society. And what she told me of North Korean re-education--really terrifying. So, as soon as Bull started talking about re-educators, I wanted to immediately burn down the Qun. Again, I don't want to equate one with the other, but it was difficult for me to divorce the two . . . as a player. BURN IT!)

Edit: So I was with Solas on his Qun old-man hatred. But his treatment of Dorian . . . Solas, no. Just, no.

Exactly this. Though I was already somewhat put off by the idea of the Qun because freedom of thought and control over one's own choices are things I personally hold dear, my jaw kind of dropped when Bull started casually talking about re-education, because of how it exists in our world. Though like you say, it's obviously it's a fictional world, but it's easy to draw parallels and make comparisons (life imitates art; art imitates life and all that), so I was all NOPE, NO THANK YOU BULL, SHH NOW, SIR. *cringes and runs to Solas for some magical, free-thinking goodness chat*

But Solas' attitudes towards both Bull and, to a greater extent, Dorian, did annoy me. It is possible to disagree with someone and not be a dick about it, after all. No matter how sure you are that you're in the right. But Solas does enjoy climbing up on a good high horse.

<insert .gif of Solas standing on the galloping pony here>

I think it's all that passion, coupled with his ceaseless desire to improve things. Express it in a more functional way, Solas dear. I still love you.

How do the nations of Thedas rank in power?

It's hard to say for sure, but to me it's probably something like this:

1. Tevinter. It's pretty diminished from what it was, but it's capable of simultaneously holding off the Qunari from the northern border and Nevarra/Orlais from it's southern border.

2. Orlais

3. Nevarra

4. Antiva

5. Ferelden

6. Rivain

7. Anderfels

8. Free Marches

Who says preparing for a good challenge implies a risk-taking attitude? And besides, what you see as desecrating poverty, I see as back-to-the-basics, hard-earned yet gratifying way of life. Also, bringing down the system, we Dalish. *grabs elf friends by the hands, spins in joyous, dirty-tea drinking circle in a beautiful forest grove, also while surrounded by and petting wild wolves* </Tala Lavellan>

After Abelas leaves the temple of Mythal, he meets up with Velanna and they raise up their own brood of racist babies to hate on the shems, certain in their superiority and sneering at all other comers. :P

I headcanon my Quizzy still being too busy to go off chasing after Solas (for now), as much as she'd like to, so she spends a lot of time sitting in Solas's chair (feet up, legs crossed), reading the books he ordered and staring intently at that last, unfinished panel, trying to figure it out. WHAT DOES IT MEAN, SOLASS!

And drinking tea, gallons of it.  Dorian looks down from the library from time to time to see how she's doing but most of the time she doesn't even notice.  When she does she gives him a sad smile of thanks and drags herself out of the chair to see what mayhem still needs addressing in Thedas.

ack, You probably have callus feet too. Go enjoy your spider infested bedrolls and limited seasonal food. At least the civilized folk have access to frilly cakes and live in cozy buildings from any unpredictable weather. oh yeah, and we have warehouses. Never have to worry about over-encumbrance like your boat wagons.~
