Joke aside, I really think you can be both, it's not mutually exclusive, even if one will eventually dominate if you are forced to choose.

That's simply not his personality.
He was an idealistic risk taker who had ideas about how the world should be, uncompromising in how he thought the world should function, and pointedly went about achieving that future without much thought as to the fallout of those decisions. Political/ philosophical radical, cocky in his intellectual superiority.
Not the vain sexual predator fanfiction seems insistent on pushing on him. That's far more Falon'Din's domain than just about anyone else's at this point.
Yes, I agree with this, to an extent this is how I am attempting to write him... Though sex, some sex is also involved...

For all we know, all of Solas's game came later in life, and he was a total dork with the ladies when he was younger.
That version actually has me way more interested than the usual fanfic headcanon of him being a sexual god magnet ;D

Yes, that's what I mean. If you are forced to choose one of both aspects will dominate. But how often does that happen actually? Solas is an extreme case. Most people can live their life happily without the need to save the world. And even if you need to save the world you don't do it all day long, right? Though your assessment of Solas might be true, considering how he obviously had enough free time to draw those frescos.... You were out too often collecting shards!

This is pretty much how I imagine him as Fen'harel. I imagine all the decadent, over-indulgent parties the pantheon would have, orgies all over the floor (Falon'din and Dirthamen double teaming some poor/lucky soul) and Fen'harel standing to the side thinking "Urgh, they only THINK they're happy!"
