I've heard there's the whole friendmance/rivalmance thing and I don't know if my expectations of DA2 are too high but is there a difference in scenes depending on how you interact with them (friendship/rival)? Because hot damn!
That scene plays in both frienship and rival romances. I'd recommend friendship because rival!Fenris feels a little abusive to me.
EDIT: Well, that's me now replaying DA2. Stupid, sexy elves.
The elven dictionary is so bare. I've decided on the name 'Shiral', because the meaning fits well for an Inquisitor, but it sounds a lot like 'Sharon', which has to be up there on a list of names that aren't sexy. Abelas and SHARON.
I've just settled on either using the name generator for more elven names, or taking elfy-sounding names from other works and poaching them. Clariel, for example, doesn't exactly follow the DA rules of no hard consonants, but it sounded vaguely elfy so I used it. IMO if I can't come up with more lore-friendly elfy names due to a limited dictionary, that's not my fault

She's Dalish born. I want so badly to be lore friendly, but I probably will just find something that sounds nicer, rather than trying to stick with what little we have. Because I don't want to spend my all my time investing in a story that sounds like it's about a 60 year old woman with badly dyed auburn hair and coke bottle glasses seducing a hot, immortal elf.

So what's your interpretation of what happened to Felassan?
I think Fen'Harel was like "Arrrrrghhhh, I asked you to do ONE THING, Felassan. One thing. Now I have to go do this myself!"
So he feels forced to "kill" Felassan in the Fade, thereby making him tranquil and possessing him. Solas says that sometimes regrettable measures are necessary to achieve a greater good, so I think he could excuse it. And he ha way of projecting his guilt (he's all up in Blackwall's face about betrayal and lies) so the fact that he is so vocal about free will and choice sounds kinda Lady McBeth, guilt over having taken away that freedom and choice from Felassan. Although, I think Felassan consented to it.
Then he's like well, I'll shave my head and get rid of these extremely suspicious Dread Wolf vallaslin and go do this thing myself! But then the Breech happens, and he has to put his eluvian quest on hold. I think that's why Solas shows little to no interest in the eluvians, because that half of his plan has to suddenly fall behind sealing the breech and stopping Corypheus.

Pro-mage apostate Hawke/friendship!Fenris is the best pairing. Hawke's gender irrelevant (but personally I go Lady Hawke/Fenris). It can take a little bit of work and you may need an approval guide but it's possible to max out his friendship by the end of his Act II quest.

I generally don't play Mages in DA on canon playthroughs (they're ususally reserved for higher difficulty PTs or for funsies) just because they can be difficult to RP. There doesn't seem to be rules or limitations for magic and I prefer it when there is.
Also I think NPCs/companions should treat you very differently depending on what you go, it seems that does happen in DA2, but personally with what I know of Fenris' past and how much he dislikes mages it should be impossible for Hawke to romance him if they're a Mage themselves, not just difficult.
Plus I seem to have a bit of a Rogue/Archer chain going in my canon PTs so I want to keep that up. x)

Honestly? Just choose a name that "sounds" elfy. Because I'm pretty sure that's what they've done so far for pretty much every word in the elvish language to date. Their verbs don't have specific endings, they don't conjugate, and ... all in all, it's a lazy cipher. Don't get me wrong, love the game, but this isn't like they hired Tolkien Pt. 2 to create them a functional, beautiful language. Poor Mary Kirby (I think) got stuck with working on the elvish language after her work on Qunlat. And I'm pretty sure she's not a linguist by trade.
So just avoid names that are mash-ups like "Renesmee" or modern like "Kaidan" or spelled funky on purpose "Uniqua" or cheerleader-turned-stripper names, and you're good.
I pray to so many gods that my mother never finds my dragon age tumblr. The swearing alone would require bath salts. I'd hate to see what would be necessary after the waifu pillow and Creeper Solas gif. Not to mention the sweet transvestites of transexual tevinter. Ughhhh.

As an undergrad, I won a creative writing award and the story got published. Which is fine.
To give you an idea of the tenor of the story in question: The editor designed the cover which an illustration of handcuffs. My classmates got uncomfortable and did not like it in workshop (my creative writing professor told me to ignore them.) After I won the award and it got published, my professor told me to not tell my parents about the award. For reasons.
BUT. It was a literary award from the university, so it wasn't like really "50 Shades" explicit. ARRRRRRRRRT!
BUT. I googled myself and it came up. Some anarchist bookstore (IDK) is working on digitizing certain publications. And it hasn't been digitized yet, but it was named. So that's a fun time.
If any of my students found the trash I write, yes, I would die. I would throw myself into the dumpster.

Steve is a good, solid name. Followed by Frank. And Mike. However I think Mike is the butt of all jokes in this circle of names and they constantly ask him why he's such a schmuck.
