You all angsty peeps, and bringing up Mordin and his "serenade of death". I still prefer my renegon's ending - Wreav sucks eggs while Mordin works on the Crucible after faking the genophage. BOOYA!
(btw, I love Wrex to pieces, but he progressively went down a path that I didn't care for, character-wise, from ME2 into ME3. Just different tastes and preferences. No need to rumble. Peace y'all. )
All about choices....I hope. (nervously looks around)
Mine has the Wicked Hearts formal attire, and the Wedge of Destiny. Everything else I wanted to keep I threw away. ;_;
Perhaps my newer saves will make better use of it.
Edit; Rather than make a new post I'll ask on this one:
During The Breakup one of the options has one of them says (I assume Lavellan, I'm drawing this scene from a gif); "Banal'abelas, banal'vehnan".
Abelas and vehnan is obvious, and the Wiki's entry for "banal" is: Banal (Buh-NAL): nothing, not, no. I have an empty pedastal in my head where my brain should be, so do we know what is basically said? (Translaters gimme!)
My favorite translation for that is "you're not sorry, you have no heart."
David Gaider just announced he is leaving Dragon Age, and Patrick Weekes will be the lead writer once he's gone.
PW is my favourite writer, so I'm happy he's now in this position. But I'll miss Gaider...
he's the best. Can't wait for those sexy unicorns lol
...............
Great sadness to see David go, he's written so many of my favorite characters; Fenris, Morrigan, Alistair, Zevran, Cassandra, Dorian, Cole... And speaking of unicorns, it was Gaider who once came in this thread and called us unicorns. It almost feels symbolic now that Cole passed hands from Gaider to Weekes, and did so very well. Weekes' characters and writing have also become some of my favorites, and he's awesome, so I feel like DA is being left in good hands.
I'm definitely interested in where Gaider goes next...perhaps the new Bioware IP? He seems to be very talented at worldbuilding, so that would be a perfect fit.

The thing about Weekes is... I hope he'll at least give us choice. Because you don't have to choose between Hawke or Alistair (I do because I always kill Hawke so I can hug Varric and get some more o' dat deep feeling) every single time. If you ONLY had the option to choose between them, then it'd be frustrating, but you can have Loghain or Stroud in Alistair's place. He's at least open to options, which I appreciate, BUT I am still horribly worried in regards to Solas. Even though I want him so badly to have a semi-happy ending, I keep seeing visions of him dying in Lavellan's arms as the "best" ending possible.
I would kill for an ending where both Solas and Lavellan go to sleep in uthenera together............
I know we worry about tragedy. But one thing I'll say about Weekes is that his tragic story arcs are not necessarily melancholic. Mordin and Legion [potentially] die fulfilling what it is they set out to do. Their deaths were more triumphant than depressing.
I'm hoping that if Solas's story has to end in tragedy, it would be more along that line. You can make the audience feel 'good' about a character death if it is handled properly. Although it will be feelsy no matter what.

First half of the sentence: Hysterical sobbing.
Second half of the sentence: Whiplash.
So if this is the new IP, I'll be very interested to see Gaider's work on it.
I mean, I love David Gaider. I've loved his work for over a decade now. He's in the bunch with Sanderson and Weekes and Pratchett and Jordan and Tolkien and Martin and Rothfuss that inspired me. It's just the thought of him leaving Bioware almost gave me a heart attack. A new IP, that's fine, that's fine...*rocks back and forth*
But Weekes as Head Writer. The possibilities...*faints onto Vivienne's couch*

Out of likes, but I totally agree. If Solas has to die, I want it to be a good death. Mordin and Legion had good deaths. I cried a little but then moved on. I don't want to wallow in sadness for days/weeks/months/years!
I think Weekes is going to do amazing things as Lead Writer. If it weren't for him, I don't think we'd have such an amazing character a Solas... or the option to romance him ^^ I'm so happy we were able to have our Lavellan love him romantically, or I'd be stewing in unrequited lust like I did for Sagacious Zu in Jade Empire lol such tragedy!

On the subject of Solas mind-wiping Cole's memory of their conversation:
Back when I was figuring out the Dread Wolf thing, because years of resisting insane History Channel conspiracy theories has built up a reserve of mad theory-crafting , I was really creeped out by how Solas's knowledge dwarfed everything. The collective magical lore of Tevinter's finest, senior Enchanters of the Circle, Morrigan, and even Corypheus all paled in comparison. He shrugged off Cole's mind-reading abilities with a gentle smile, calmly explained veilfire and what have you after your other experts have admitted to complete ignorance, he knows the location and name of ancient fortresses with mysterious histories, and incinerates the Kirkwall mages in a split-second.
Even with the reduced power from his long slumber and the loss of the Orb, I get the feeling he's holding back a great deal, and still able to fight side-by-side with the elite of modern Thedas.
It reminds me of The Dresden Files, on the occasions early on in the series when Harry upsets a member of the Senior Council (the elite oligarchy of the White Council, the wizarding organization) and thinks about just how screwed he'd be if they got into a fight, because they've got centuries of knowledge and combat experience on him, if not in raw power.
Over the course of the series so far, he gets to some of the Senior Council members in action. It's always one of the highlights of a book.
Major spoilers under the spoiler.
Spoiler
A vampire tries to frame Ebenezar's ex-apprentice and causes all kinds of ruckus. At the end of the book, as Dresden is worrying about the vampire getting ready for another showdown, Ebenezar calls him on the phone and just says, "Turn on the TV."
Ebenezar went for the brute force approach and pulled a Soviet satellite out of the sky and dropped it on the vampire and his household.
In Turncoat, Listens-to-Wind, the kindly healer, goes head-to-head with the Skinwalker whose been running roughshod over Dresden and his allies for the entirety of the book, and is generally speaking one of the creepiest monsters I've seen in literature for awhile. Listens-to-Wind wins a shapeshifting duel handily, and sends the Skinwalker, howling with fear, into retreat. Him turning into a bear the size of a mini-bus was particularly great.
In TurnCoat, there's a big courtroom scene with hundreds of wizards. A certain scoundrel drops a mordite monster and covers the room in darkness while he flees. The mordite monster is a particularly nasty bit of work that kills on contact, and Dresden notes that it's a weakness of wizards that they'll light themselves up Gandalf style whenever it's dark, as an instinct. Which paints them as targets.
Langtry uses magic to coordinate the Senior Council, complete with mental blackboards and casually asking them to avoid dying.
While the White Council flees from an army of Fae in the Nevernever and are being pursued by Outsiders, Langtry stops the army in their tracks with a single ward spell. Even Dresden is gobsmacked.
I picture Solas as having been on that level, adjusted for Dragon Age. (I'm done nerding out about the Dresden Files for now, back to Saxons in Attila. )
And now I desperately want Jim Butcher and Patrick Weekes to collaborate on a project. They've always reminded me of each other.
Oh, gods, the hilarity that would ensue! The amazing scenes!
So I wrote a thing. It's a short story. Understand I don't usually write fanfiction, but I really felt like putting my Lavellan's post-DA:I story into words for some reason.
Oooh you know I wonder... Solas' ugly Halamshiral hat (YES IT'S HIDEOUS NO ONE APPROVES) with the clipping-into-his-nose issue, MAYBE he was supposed to have a mask on??? Like, then the clipping would have been justified because it would've stuck out through the mask.......
But seriously WHY that hat??? THERE'S PROBABLY A DOZEN STREETS WITH HATS IN VAL ROYEAUX AND SOLAS HAS TO GET THE POINTY WEIRD LOOKING ONE.
He's such a butt. He did it on purpose

Kind of like Morrigan deliberately mocking Orlesian fashion with her outfit?
Personally I thought Morrigan's Orlesian ball get-up was much swankier than what the Orlesians were wearing.

According to this concept art, this is what his mask should have looked like.
On a somewhat related note, I'm sorry to hear David Gaider is leaving Dragon Age, though that does explain why he seemed to have less involvement this game than the previous two games, and why he had Patrick Weekes taking over some of his brain children. (Cole and Iron Bull were specifically stated to be his characters and character arc ideas, so I wondered why hand them over to Weekes? And of course Solas was such a major character who is hinted to be an antagonist for future games, so why--? *news comes out that DG is leaving DA* Oooooooooh, that's why.)
I should be sadder than I am, but I love the way Weekes wrote Cole and Solas (they're my two favorite characters, in fact), and I love the way he handled their personal quests (Cole's and Iron Bull's in particular), so I'm actually kind of curious to see where he takes the series.
I'd be down for an uthenera ending for the two of them. Whatever happens, I think I'll be ok if they're together, with a chance at reconciliation. What I really, REALLY don't wanna do is abandon Solas to his fate. I already did that, leaving Zevran behind when my Tabris went off to die. Then again with Hawke and Anders. I don't wanna do that to Solas, even if Lavellan is still alive.
But seriously WHY that hat??? THERE'S PROBABLY A DOZEN STREETS WITH HATS IN VAL ROYEAUX AND SOLAS HAS TO GET THE POINTY WEIRD LOOKING ONE.

Maybe it's just a really elaborate tin foil hat to shield his mind from the heady blend of power, intrigue, danger and sex? Maybe without it he would have gone straight to game-mode: blinded by ecstasy, he would have danced Florianne senseless, earning +1000 court approval, prevented the assasination and become the emperor of Orlais. But that would have totally blown his cover.
Of course I'm totally serious about this theory, why wouldn't I be.

About the choices, that's very true. I'm not much of a fan of choices like Hawke vs. Stroud/Alistair/Loghain because it felt like cheap thrills. But the Mordin choices -- all of them, really -- were so well made. All ending in the same situation (or at least one that had no effect in the game; Genophage yes/no) and still feeling different and meaningful.
However, I wouldn't suddenly assume that Solas is done for just now. I can't imagine that this change of lead writers makes too much of a difference regarding the overall story arch. I do believe many story decisions are made on the fly or at least on short notice, but I still think the main story arch was planned already and Weeks won't suddenly change it all. If Solas is supposed to go down it would have happened under Gaider as well.
I personally am glad to hear of a new IP, and if they assign one of the popular and long-term writers that's a good sign. I want more different BioWare games.

Hmm, I feel like if Gaider has now officially "left" the team, it's likely that they've finished writing (or at least planning) whatever plot-related DLC might come after Inquisition? I suppose it's possible he decided not to stick around for that part, but I'd assume he'd stay on until at least this game is completely wrapped up. I wonder if we'll hear anything about it?? *crosses fingers for wolf hunt*
bonus: tonight the chatzy group were the ones goin weird instead of the g+ people.
