David Gaider likes the dark side, Patrick is rather versatile - on one had we have Mordin, on the other hand - didn't Weekes want a cure for Thane's illness?
I love Weekes, he write terrific characters, I'm not unhappy with that, I'm just wondering about Solas' fate as both as a meaningful character and as an LI.

Gaider is pretty versatile too; he gave Morrigan the OGB ending, Alistair the king/queen ending... most of his characters end up pretty happy actually.
Anyway, I think Gaider and Weekes probably reached some sort of understanding on where the story was headed - in general - before Gaider left. Gaider talked about how his characters felt like his children so I doubt he'd be all "so long and thanks for all the gifs" without working out some sort of plan.
I'm more excited with Weekes being lead writer because I'm interested to see how he deals with the mages/elves than with Solas specifically.
Please don't tell me this thread will only be about how Solas' freckles look in particular screenshots from now on.
We can also talk about how Solas' butt looks in particular screenshots xD
But he stays with Bioware, right? So then it's not another lead writer jumping ship. That's usually a really bad sign. But new IP sounds gooood. Unless the MMO rumor is true...
I think Dragon Age is in capable hands with Weekes. The rough plot for the remaining game(s) has probably been mapped out for ages. So I don't expect a new direction or any other drastic change. As long as they don't ruin Morrigan or something I'm okay with the whole lead change. New enthusiastic people is usually a good thing. I can totally understand Gaider getting bored after ten years. It's a long time.
Wait...................an MMO?!!! What rumour is that?? Sorry, de-lurked
I don't think he'll do that. But it will be amusing if he ends up having to come back and ask for help from the Inquisition. He doesn't exactly have a lot of people that would be willing to hear him out.
My Lavellan would love to hear his explanation, preferavly from her comfy perch on her throne...atop dem thighs. Seriously, I would enjoy watching him try to explain things to her, especially if he comes, ugly hat in hand, to ask for her help. I don't think he would but it would be a great scene...from Abelas's lap.

A dragon age MMO. Just what Dragon Age doesn't need. DA I is already filled with repetitiveness and generic gameplay. An MMO... Jesus.
Shadow Realms was going to be an MMO of sorts and it was cancelled. This is a completely new IP - unrelated to Dragon Age - and no details have been announced about it except for some of the writers and that it's a new project unrelated to Bioware's other universes.

It's true that a lot of Gaider's characters end up happy, but I think he is a big fan of dark themes, more than Patrick.
I'm happy about Patrick Weekes because he approaches things differently (that is true for nearly everyone) and he will probably bring a breath of fresh air into the series, both are terrific writers but different minds come up with different ideas.. It'll be nice to explore Patrick's ideas. Patrick's proven his skills with magnificent character writing, Solas, in particular, felt alive, like an actual person.
I'm just really curious about how they'll deal with Solas as character.
Been swamped in studies but just saw Gaider's announcement I guess if he needs a break from the dark side of our rabidly hungry fandom, he deserves it. He gave us all a wonderful gift by creating the DA world. Saying that, I am so happy the Weekes is taking over! Please satisfy our Solas needs IN WEEKES WE TRUST
Random thoughts relating to DA this week:
1) Katherine Philips poem, mentioning nature of angels:
For though we were designed t’agree, That fate no liberty destroys, But our election is as free As angels, who with greedy choice Are yet determined to their joys.
Responding criticism discusses one interpretation of a biblical reference, where angels are said to have originated with free will until making a "greedy choice", eternally fixing themselves each with one nature. So there is this real life biblical parallel in DA where whatever the "first children" were had the capacity for free will, but made a "greedy choice" and became the Fade spirits of fixed nature we encounter in present day.
The poem is actually about love (platonic or otherwise?) between two women (here it is for anyone interested):
Spoiler
Friendship's Mystery, To My Dearest Lucasia
"Come, my Lucasia, since we see
That miracles men’s faith do move,
By wonder and by prodigy
To the dull angry world let’s prove
There’s a religion in our love.
For though we were designed t’agree,
That fate no liberty destroys,
But our election is as free
As angels, who with greedy choice
Are yet determined to their joys.
Our hearts are doubled by the loss,
Here mixture is addition grown;
We both diffuse, and both engross:
And we whose minds are so much one,
Never, yet ever are alone.
We court our own captivity
Than thrones more great and innocent:
'Twere banishment to be set free,
Since we wear fetters whose intent
Not bondage is, but ornament.
Divided joys are tedious found,
And griefs united easier grow:
We are selves but by rebound,
And all our titles shuffled so,
Both princes, and both subjects too.
Our hearts are mutual victims laid,
While they (such power in friendship lies)
Are altars, priests, and off’rings made:
And each heart which thus kindly dies,
Grows deathless by the sacrifice.”
2) Another idea on the Qun - a country is a brain.
This may require explanation! It's under the theory of functionalism, where a mental state is defined by certain causal relations it bears to input states (e.g. sensory states) output states (e.g. verbal/nonverbal behaviours).. as well as a bunch of other states. This is in contrast to say, behavourism which views mental states as understood by observable behaviours.
To simplify, think of the heart. The heart's functional role is to pump blood. We have no problem replacing an organic heart with an artificial pump because it will still provide the function of a heart - providing it does this, it doesn't matter what material it's made from. A heart is defined in terms of it's functional role, to pump blood.
To put it in terms of a colloquial saying around these parts - "if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, shits like a duck, then it's a duck"!
So the heart is understood by its function, abstracted from its physical constitution. According to functionalism, so can the mind. Beliefs, desires, intentions, perceptions, pains, etc and rational relations between them can be understood in terms of the functional role they play. It is not yet known exactly how the brain carries out the function of the mind, but the functionalist argues that it is known in principle.
This position is often used to argue in favour of artificial intelligence potentially achieving true consciousness. If we are one day able to completely map the human brain, then in theory we would be able to replicate every component of the brain. Knowing the human brain in it's entirety produces a mind, it follows this constructed brain would also produce a mind.
The theory of functionalism allows for Quarians and Geth to live alongside eachother without issue; as both function as living beings, regardless of what they are constructed from.
Now, one argument against this theory is it's "vagueness". One critic responded with "following this logic, lots of things can be classed as a brain. Even a country like China can be a brain".
And then, a few (currently active) philosophers have responded with: yeah, you're right, China can be a brain. What's wrong with that? Every member of the chinese nation can be asked to simulate the brain, using phones or walkie-talkies to simulate axons and dendrites connecting neurons. Then, satellites can be used to display the "current mental state" of the brain. It gets tricky when we think about how a consciousness would be evidenced (as arguably none of us can really evidence our own to others...yet). But the function of the brain (the mind) is there, in this China analogy.
So I find it interesting that the Qunari reference their society as a body; the exploring military as their "limbs" and the cities, habitats for common life, as "hearts". I find it super interesting that the Qunari refuse to acknowledge the existence of the Fade; it being forbidden to walk in the Fade, even in dreams. It suggests that there is a Fade to refuse to begin with.
This way of life reminds me of those theories in psychology which refuse to acknowledge the existence of consciousness and an immaterial mind as something separate from the material brain. It is understandable, as arguably no field of science can be built on premises where the physical laws of our world cannot be applied. Yet, it seems to go against our inherent understanding of human existence; since the beginning of time, so many of us have known intrinsically that we are not merely the sum of our parts.
This is the Qun. Each member fixed in a role in order to constitute a whole brain. Yet, a brain denying the existence of it's own conscious mind.
I realise there are many who react to the idea of the Qun negatively; it is understandable (from the perspective of western civilisation) to wish to hold on to our sense of individual identity so dearly. However, it is possible to appreciate an ideology behind a society, before we move on to considering the implications of that ideology. The ethics become debatable, which I believe is what DA is encouraging us to think about.
Sorry, it's like an itch which can only be scratched by typing it out Anyway, back to study *cape swish*
Hasn't all that stuff moved into the Elven Pantheon thread?
I'm going to miss how busy this thread was.
On topic: I really do like the freckles.
It has. And I'm gonna miss it too.
I guess I could just lurk at the Elven Pantheon thread but I already have a hard time keeping up with this thread, what's more two threads. I just hope some of that glitter comes back to us from time to time. ^^;

Yes, it used to be about Shadow Realms. But I guess ever since people are worried one is coming after all. Especially after DAI which already felt too much like a singleplayer MMO to a lot of people.
Wait, Weekes wanted to have Thane cured?!? Ok, I like him a tiny bit less now... *g* That would have been just too fairy tale. It was ridiculous enough that there were no scripted deaths on the suicide mission. "We're probably all going to die." Grave mood. Then: Hell yeah, we all survived like it was nothing. Plus, Joker has a girlfriend now, awwwww.
I'm not totally anti-MMO. Played WOW back in the day and am looking forward to Elder Scrolls when it comes on Xbox ONe....my pc has died.
IT depends on how it's done.
However, I can't see it working in a Dragon Age world unless it's set in a completely different time?
Downside of MMO's is having to deal with pre-pubescent Nerds who want my character to be their gf/bf!!! Then swear at me when I decline.

I agree. I'd hate a DA MMO. I play games like DA to RUN AWAY from MMO. I'm an atisocial gamer. I hate multiplayer, I haven't even buyed the PSplus to play online. So I have the excuse ready for friends who want to play MP. I would hate a DA MMO.
I guess I could just lurk at the Elven Pantheon thread but I already have a hard time keeping up with this thread, what's more two threads. I just hope some of that glitter comes back to us from time to time. ^^;
Oh, don't you worry. Once unleashed, one can not ever truly get rid of glitter, especially Divine Glitter--a lesson Solas knows only too well.

I'm glad it's gone to it's own thread, it deserves it. I'm sure the others will pop in from time to time to share with us their love.

DA has the lore to do a decent MMO, just not the budget. It'd go down the same route as Elder Scrolls. And with what I've heard of WoW in recent weeks... Yeah let's just leave it at the selfies feature, Blizzard.
One thing I can now be relaxed with is... whatever phate is waiting Solas, it will be wrote beautifully. (not that I wasn't sure before... but Weekes as lead writer, is assured)
...Do you see what my Visigoths just did to Greece and Constantinople?
They laid it to waste. Alaric is roasting marshmallows and Flavius Arcadius over the bonfire that was the Queen of Cities. That's what they do to one of my favorite things. They'll do worse to one of the most terrible things. They'll go Attila and Vlad Tepes and make fraudulent reports to Roman Emperors about great artwork.
I find it hard to express the sheer panic and horror at the idea of a DA MMO. And this coming from someone who enjoyed The Old Republic.
I can enjoy multiplayer and social interaction. In carefully controlled doses.
But I need my single-player Bioware game. I need to sink into the world and not repeatedly type "LF Healer Qunari Rave Lvl 25 Run" or admiring the multiple characters running around as 'Champion of Tevinter'.
It seems that The Old Republic has gotten enough of Bioware's KotOR resources poured into it that there isn't going to be another single-player Star Wars RPG by them, in spite of the many birthday wishes I've spent on it for the past decade.
I was okay with World of Warcraft for a time, but I wanted a sequel to Warcraft III, not an MMO.
*sigh*
I have heard good and bad things about the Elder Scrolls Online. But I approve of their handing the MMO over to a separate company, regardless.
