- Miranda was an extremely popular romance option for players in ME2. Some people took major, major offense that she was not a party member in the third game. And they felt that her romance was not handled sufficiently.
- Miranda thread also had people who were fans of Yvonne Strahovski over the game itself. [Some of these people would occasionally mock the game.]
- Miranda thread also had a contingent of people who were diehard supporters of Cerberus, and were infuriated that they could not side with Cerberus in the third game.
- Miranda thread split into two factions- those who enjoyed ME3, and those who hated everything that bioware had done because of ME3's ending.
- Several Miranda thread regulars were posters who were generally aggressive in the main boards. The fights between various members degraded into vicious trolling.
- When the two threads were created, mods threw their hands into the air and decided that everything had gone too far.
I should also note that these were back in the days where some threads, such as Tali thread, were basically chat rooms. They would grow so fast that occasionally mods would ban talking about Tali for a month or two. Liara thread had some drama as well around the same time.
'Banning' us from talking about certain subjects was normal practice. There was a period after DA:O and DAII where we weren't allowed to make same sex romance threads.
Certain threads also became hotbeads of fringe elements of the 'retake ME!' crowd. BSN raised 70,000 dollars for charity to protest how much people hated the game. I'm not saying everyone from retake was bad. But it attracted a very bullying element to the forums which has remained until this day.
Eventually it was just easier to nuke the entire forum.
