Qunari claim they don't dream, whether or not this is true or simply because it's forbidden by the Qun is up in the air. Apparently Qunari are rarely found in the Fade, and that's used to support the idea.  Although it's funny that the Qun could simply outlaw dreaming and expect it to be enforced.  That dreaming is forbidden at all is odd.  If it's another remnant of an old order, it makes a little more sense.

I imagine they might be bred in a fashion that impairs their ability to dream in the first place. Some brain damage can destroy a human's ability to dream despite having normal REM sleep. It's really not so "difficult" if we assume you know exactly what brain cells to get rid off. So I would not be too surprised if Qunari really had an impaired or even no ability to dream.

Hey, everybody, I found Madrar!

I think I may have done a bad thing by getting her to try Crusader Kings II...  ^_^

She's going by Madrarrr now. For some reason I find this very funny.

Is she only there or also here? Will she come back? I miss her.

For whatever reason, she has a new account. Created rather recently. She'll probably pop in here soon enough. :) She said to prep for a big theory-crafting dump.

I think Solas could really get along with Merrill. I know he scoffs at the Dalish trying to preserve/reclaim ancient elvhen knowledge, but she not only works towards this but sacrifices her life and place in her clan because it was more important to her. I think he'd respect that she'd be willing to do that for knowledge, even if he knew her attempts were misguided/did not go the way she hoped. I don't think they'd agree on a whole lot, but I do think they could get along.

Wisdom as its own reward... I think Solas would give Merrill lots of "strongly approves", approving is not the same as agreeing!

Sten, along with Morrigan, recognized that the Fade section in Origins was a dream, unlike Senior Enchanter Wynne or the dwarf Oghren. Maybe this is because the Qunari lack some sort of proper connection to the Fade, and he could see the actual green clouds and floating rubble, and was, "Oh, I read about this in Beresaad prep school. It's one of those 'dreams'."

Or it's because he's a smart cookie that's dreamed as much as you or me, and enters lucid dreaming when he recognizes his dead comrades. But, in defiance of Qunari teachings, he clings to it, because 'it's a good dream'.

The Saarebas are held in chains and have their tongues clipped and are executed if not within sight of their Arvaraad because the Qunari are so paranoid about demons speaking to them from the Fade and influencing them. How could they fear demonic possession if they don't have a connection to the Fade?

(HOW DID THAT DEMON POSSESS THAT ANCIENT DWARF PRINCE BACK IN THE CALLING? INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!)

Which brings up another interesting thing. The Qunari are obviously terrified of magic. I can't help but think of it like the alcoholic couple's children drinking only water, or me using real butter. I'm willing to bet that the kossith are some kind of magocracy, or have a demon problem. Koslun and successors went far, far the other way to ensure they didn't repeat their parents' mistakes.

Which had to be great when they landed in Thedas and discovered a less powerful magocracy that they could stomp on.

I don't think Qunari lack a connection the Fade, I think they may just be resistant somehow.  They might actually be able to not dream at will.  That's why I explained it as being different from dwarves, who seem to be completely severed from the Fade.  (Except when weird magic stuff happens that forces them into the Fade, etc.  I assume it's something like Pharamond or what the blood mages in Kirkwall were doing with templars.  You can put demons into someone without a Fade connection or who isn't a mage, it just takes a lot of workarounds.)

Speaking of fears of demon possession, the Dalish, at least according to WoT if not much else, have a taboo against the use of spirits in their magic.  (Although we could consider that this is describing Dalish that aren't intentionally doing things they know they shouldn't or are just plain wackadoo.) Considering the ancient elves seem to be on the completely opposite line of thinking where spirits are concerned, I've wondered where that might have come from.  I don't know if it might be related to what's going on with the Qunari's view of magic, but might as well mention it.  Especially since the veil and spirits and the Fade were probably big issues back before Elvhenan went boom, some lingering issues may have been passed down through the cultures even if they don't remember exactly why.  Even Andrastian culture and their mages don't have the same level spirit avoidance going on.

I am totally on board for freckles.  I wonder if they extend to his shoulders and back too?  Because if they do, he is getting all the Lavellan love nibbles.

Of course they do but we have so see... Particularly the ones below the belt...

You can have freckles there? On your whole body? I actually had no idea. Never thought about it either.

I get the feeling that Dalish avoidance of spirits is to limit their exposure to demons due to not having an order of magically resistance warriors to defend them from abominations; and living in tiny groups without many mages who could fight back against abominations.

Nah it's fine, I was just a little surprised at the speed. I don't regularly post here anymore, but some of the Solaven fans I still talk to outside..and was going to leave it here to share.

I distinctly remember my Inquisitor being awake, running around Skyhold for the first time, going to talk to Solas and saying, "Hey I'd like to learn more about your studies!" and Solas saying, "Sure, let's talk somewhere more interesting." ... then hey look we're in Haven.

I'm totally ashamed to admit that the first time I played that scene it completely did NOT occur to me that Haven should have been destroyed and what we were seeing wasn't real. -_-

You aren't the only one lol!

It totally went over my head that Haven was destroyed and the breach was closed. But in my second pt I figured it out and was a bit embarrassed about it lol. :D

I was so focused on that Handsome bald elf. :P

Possibly that too.  It still seems a bit strange though considering everything.

Judging by his flirts, I'm pretty sure current Solas is quite the dirty talker. ;)

No point getting old if you don't get dirtier...

omg it's a good thing most of the romance is up to our imaginations because if Weekes wrote more of the sexy smooth jerk's flirtations... the game would be like nc-17 then.  solas may not like to openly discuss sex, but behind closed doors, the guy's a perv and freak XD  but i wager he was very OPEN with his smut talk as a young lad ahahaha!

I'll run with that...

Here, have a Solas, or several, this is from the Dragon Age: Inquisition concept art:

I've been thinking of a new Origins runthrough.

I'm torn between a Dwarf Noble and a City Elf/Dalish Elf.  :o

City elf. Gives you the elf feeling but still keeps the antipathy of the Dalish believable.

Because, frankly, I was so pissed as a Dalish any time those other Dalish treated me like rubbish. That's no way to be, they shouldn't have any reason to be so exclusive. Even though I'm a very special butterfly.

You know the Solas spiral, where one can't stop making Solasmancers?

Morrigan spiral. :( It's a problem.
If I made a Dalish, I'd inevitably mark up the Warden with either June (If June is indeed Urthemiel) or Mythal for irony and theme. Then when Morrigan gets whammied with Mythal's godhood, he becomes the dorkiest husband/Abelas 2.0 ever.

But the dwarf noble is involved in dwarf politics and the darkspawn and has experience. And would romance Morrigan.

But the city elf is amazing. And would romance Morrigan. I'd probably find my copy of DA had been mysteriously modded with the bi-Morrigan mod if I made a female city elf.

UGH.

Maybe I should just go play Romans in Attila while I mull it over.  I'm sure that won't end in disaster.

Dalish with the Dalish mage mod.  Use Mythal's vallaslin and become the most awkward son-in-law ever.

Also, call him Abelas.

It's on the DAO nexus (don't have a link right now, sorry).  You'll need the dialogue fix mod, too (unless you want Jowan thinking you're his friend and the Circle mages thinking you grew up there).

No, actually I don't because I'm no Solasmancer. But I do know only going with Cullen every single playthrough. ;)

But why not? He's my guy, I've basically committed to him. I have no problem with that and I don't ever understand people who say "I must try so hard not to romance xyz because I wanted to try out abc". Why? Watch the cutscenes on YouTube and invest the gaming time in a romance you wish to follow. The game is a bit too long for me to put up with a different character only to check out the romance. Always Kaidan, always Alistair, always Fenris, always Cullen.

I am curious, do you play male or female characters? I play self-insert, so always female.

Male and female. Started with a female Exile in KotOR 2, just to meet the Disciple. She ended up accidentally being the first RPG character I actually leveled decently, (Did you know that high Charisma and Intelligence don't make your Consular ready to be the tank? I certainly didn't.) and I just picked up a trend of mostly playing males, but having two or three females. Mostly because, as a broad generalization, I prefer men's voices to female.

If chainmail bikinis are involved, strictly male.  I want my character to be practical, not some prancing easily gutted ninny.

Because my SO was dead-set on a female Qunari, and we play together, my first playthrough was with a Qunari mage. I very quickly made an alt of a British male warrior, because I may have been slightly obsessed with the voice since the earliest launch trailers.

Sometimes Liara, Always Garrus/Tali, with the occasional field trip into Jacksville, Morrigan*, Fenris/Merrill, Solas/Dorian/Cassandra.

*My first Zevran and my first Leliana romances were two of my all-time favorite characters I've ever made. I don't bother trying to top them.  The less that's said of my shall we say sad-panda-face Alistair romance the better. :(
