Girl, I know dem feels.  I think we all do, actually... which is why we're here, in this thread, extending the life of our heartache.  YOLO, right?

The only way I have survived my Trev run, is by head-canoning that he secretly loves Kyiana, and that at Haven, he desperately fought the urge to smooch her face, only having his desire turned into side-long glances and lots of booty staring.  Trev's got dat bass, after all.  Despite having romanced Blackwall and now Cullen, she can't help but make very, VERY frequent stops into the rotunda to ask about, the Fade, or whatever...

Yes, please tell me more about pressing against the veil and going deep into the heart of the fade. No, that doesn't sound filthy at all. hnnhghhh

I did. Very much, sums up the epicness (not sure that's a real word, but it should be!) of the romance very well... And I know it must have taken some time to put together.

I was thinking about the next DA game with Solas as a hero and that was my insipiration. I dream of a happy ending...

YEP. That is, YEP, that's what happened.  First time in Haven with him, I was like "Ah, this is niiice, he's so smart and broody, can't wait to get back to Cull-NINJA FADE KISS!"  Then his cheeky little "Wake up." GAH.

My life was over as we knew it.

WOW... I uh.. I don't know what to say--

--cause she said it for me.

Bravo!!!

Bravo! :o  Nice surprise or as Vivienne would say "How lovely..." and thank you for the good feedback  :D .

My lavellan has a...certain view on the elven pantheon. She takes in context of how her people but Dalish and city elves, simply don't know their own history, all the Dalish have is tattered fragments of tattered fragments of a tapestry of Arlathan, of ancient elves before the Imperium. She tends to view the "stories, myths etc" that the Dalish have found over the years as something to take with a grain of salt, no one has all the facts any more. Tidbits of myths and fragments dont amount to the whole of any story. Sure they've found stuff and have done the best they can but she sees the reality of "we just don't know. How much of this is really true? how do we know the ancient elves were all knowing and the best thing since sliced bread? we dont." In regards to the pantheon, she sees the story of them being locked away by the dread wolf as something that may or may not have happened. She sees the stories of the gods as just that...stories that may or may not have kernals of truth as such The reality for her is, whether its the elven gods or the maker, or even the "old gods" of the Imperium, they all seem to intercede the same amount which seems to be not at all. She's a proud Dalish, but there is a part of her, a tiny part of her that always wonders "what exactly does that mean?" Then she meets Solas, he kinda confirms what she's always thought, then the temple of Mythal happens and she is shocked of course but....it only confirms her assertions that too much was lost to expect the Dalish to have any hope of recovering anything of the ancient elves without making mistakes. She drank from the well...and boy was she shocked when she ran into flemythal....The question that now stands foremost in her mind is now: If there are still ancient elves (Abelas), the souls of the "gods" still roaming about...why are the rest of the Elven people left to nothing? She puts everyone first, that includes her people, hence the reason she drank from the well. Now i'm going to write a little tid bit post game about her connection to mythal and (after the game when solas meets flemythal) now Solas. SOOO MANY FEELS! :)

Ugh, this attitude.  OK, so maybe Lavellan's not immortal and magical and covered in glitter, but if one of you god-like jerkfaces would get off your high horse and EXPLAIN it to her, she'd understand?  Of course no one's going to know anything if you just keep it all to yourselves  <_<

I feel you. This is the single most frustrating aspect of DAI for me. At least Mythal doesn't turn up her nose at the Dalish like SOME OTHER ELVES (*coughsolascough*) but STILL. Here the elves are, thinking their gods left them because they did something wrong and if they just do the right magical things that the gods will come back (at least this is what Merrill says) and one of the gods IS TOTALLY CHILLING OUT in the woods. And she's not above using the Dalish to ensure her survival (Apparently she made an exchange for that but we're never told what it is). So what is this? What the heck is going on here that she can't be like, "Yo, I'm here but your ancestors murdered me and I'm not helping you anymore." Or "Hey I'm not really that powerful so I'd love to give you a hand but I can't really so good luck."

I don't know what happened with Solas. According to him, he tried to tell the Dalish some stuff, but who knows what it was or how he went about it. And why he won't tell Lavellan this stuff - when she seems totally open to it - is beyond me. Is it because he doesn't want her to worship him? Is it because he is afraid he'll reject him? Is he just being a snob? I don't know. No one tells Lavellan anything. I get that it's a necessity for the story - you couldn't tell JUST F!Lavellan's critical info - but come on. COME. ON.

Same here. Every time Solas and Mythal give some vague and/or cryptic warning that the elves' past is not as wonderful as the Dalish have romanticized it as, I just want to turn to them and say, "Is there something you'd like to share with the class?"

Solas is so snide about the Dalish's limited knowledge and understanding of their own history, and doesn't hide his contempt when the Dalish PC shares the stories she's heard. I just want to say, "If you know better, I'm all ears (as we elves like to say)." When Mythal reveals she's been awake and around for centuries but hasn't made herself known to or helped out the elves, and when called out on it cryptically says, "You know not what you ask," I want to scream, "THEN WHY DON'T YOU EXPLAIN IT TO ME?!"

Ignorance is cured with education, not condescension.

EDIT: Although I do kind of love how Morrigan and Female Lavellan both call Flemeth/Mythal out on being such a horrible maternal figure. Morrigan calls Flemeth out for being a terrible mother, and Lavellan calls Mythal out on being a terrible goddess who abandoned her people.

Nobody asked them to make another thread. In fact, I fought to keep them here so it wouldn't kill this thread. But they left and didn't bother inviting all of us, so it is what it is. Its too bad too because I would have liked to participate in the current conversation, but they never had those kinds of conversations here.

After all that fuss about the thread NOT being a clique. Eh ive said my peace.

On the occasions where I'm feeling more charitable toward Flemythal, I think she could also mean it less as condescension and more as "You really don't want the gods' help."  After all, she knows the Dalish better than Solas does.  She's seen the way they romanticize the Creators, who were in fact very dangerous and often cruel to the People.  It might be a gentle nudge from her for the Dalish quizzy to abandon the very notion of gods and divine aid, and make their own way in the world.

I kind of feel like a dolt right now, and this may have already been discussed before. I was just thinking on Cradle of Sulevin (and the legendary weapon you get for completing it), and thinking it reminds me of something.

An Admirable Topsider quest, in DAO! For those that may not remember, you found a blade in three parts, while traipsing through the deep roads. You fight an "ancient darkspawn" (no further description on what that actually means...at least none that I have found). And the blade originally belonged to an elf. Here is the Codex Entry on the sword itself:

Well duh, but it's no different from the people of chatzy. both chatzy and gchat people advertised their chatrooms to welcome the public forum to participate in. Hell, if not posting it every few days, both are posted on the Solas front page. You had a choice of a fast pace chatroom and a voice/video chatroom.

I've been a member for a week and I was welcomed into both chatrooms very enthusiastically, I just want to say. I haven't contributed as much to this thread because besides general silliness, I haven't got much else to add to speculations about Solas at the moment. Maybe after a second play through. Right now, it's more fun for me to do wild, rampant speculation about characters we don't know much about than it is to do about a character who has a fairly defined personality, even if his motivations are incredibly murky. I think Solas is going to pop up again in either DLC or a further game, and I hope he does, but there's only so much 'I think this is going to happen but I have to wait and see' that I can do.

But, but, but... she's not sharing her information. That's my point. ;.;

Lack of knowledge on a subject is what allows people to romanticize it from afar; it's human--er, people's nature. Whether it's history or culture, our own or other people's, romantization of a subject can only come from lack of knowledge of the unsavory details. Once people become aware of the flaws of whatever time period or culture they built up as perfect in their heads, they'll quit dreaming it up much more quickly than if someone lectures them about how little they know about the subject.

How do you get people to stop romanticizing a past they don't remember and/or a culture they know little about? TEACH THEM the unsavory details.

The Dalish want to learn about their heritage, history and culture partly because they don't know anything about it. They desperately cling to their culture partly because it's dying, and they'd rather their own culture over those that humans and/or Qunari try to force on them. Saying, "You know not what you ask" is not nearly as effective as, "You don't want that, and his is why: *explains*"

To be perfectly honest, this is what irks me about Solas,Mythal,Abelas etc. They keep pointing out (except Mythal ),how wrong the Dalish are but they refuse to share knowledge even with those who seek it.Won't lie, I know that not revealing their secrets is solely for narrative purposes and I understand it,but still they could have handled it better in these occasions.

I think he was (though it isn't entirely specified in the codex entry). Mostly though, it was how the sword he used handled, the inscription, and the fact that both quests involve putting together pieces of weapon, in front of tombs.

I just finally realized why this quest (The Cradle of Sulevin), always reminded me of something. Doh!

To be fair, we're dealing with "your gods are ****" levels of information here. I can imagine how Flemeth and Solas, seing how faith gives hope and purpose, might be reserved about revealing what they know. I mean, I don't think it's too far a streach to say it's like a christian seeking to know the truth and finding out God is an ******* and Satan a missunderstood underdog. Some people would take this news... badly.

I don't think Flemeth knows how much the Inquisitor has uncovered (indeed, he/she might not have gathered codexes or done sidequests at all) and as such don't feel like she can trust this stranger with just any information. Solas has a very personal reason to keep information from others. That said, I think the fact that he's so close to spilling everything for Lavellan is oh-so-sweet.

Actually I don't think that elf was a Grey Warden.  The dwarves (especially the Legion of the Dead) seem to have a great deal of respect for Grey Wardens.  And they wouldn't have been surprised to see one in the Deep Roads.  Those codex entries really made it seem like, what the heck is this silly topsider doing down here anyway eh he'll just run back to the surface soon enough.

I think somewhere among all the tin-foil hat theories and discussions of Dalish culture, we hit upon a theory that the Dalish doctored their own history to give their people hope and strength.  Specifically, we get most of our Dalish lore from Keeper Gisharel of clan Ralaferin, and it's the nice-and-fluffy version of the Creators.

I find Solas almost telling Lavellan the truth to be both sweet and immensely frustrating.  Solas has that wonderful effect on me as a character where I want to hug him AND smash his stupid egg head into a wall.

(also, also... I'm not affiliated in any way with this and dunno what it will be like but the /r/solasmancers subreddit is hosting a CAH on Friday and you can find the info here: http://www.reddit.co...da_drinks_and/)

I think Mythal at least understands what happened to the Dalish, since she's seen at least the last thousand years or so. So her comments make me wonder if there's something else going on, where it really is better that the Dalish don't know. I can't think of something that would be so earth-shattering as to break the identity of the elves but then again I'm not a professional writer so who knows what the DA team has going on in their plans.

I really doubt the Dalish doctored their history, they just don't know most of it.  I assumed the reason Keeper Gisharel is the source of most Dalish lore (on our side of things) is because Ralaferin is a rare example of a Dalish clan willing to communicate freely with curious outsiders.  But Gisharel isn't the only example we have of Dalish lore sourced by outsiders.
