I don't think that's true at all. However, people aren't necessarily going to like the "screw that guy" attitude or "this guy is so much better so let's talk about him a ton" attitude. Because, you know, this is the Solas thread and all. It ain't just the big words at the top of each page. I don't pine for Solas romantically and I think I've said before that I find his romance with Lavellan to not even be close to being the most compelling thing about him. That's because I care about Solas much more than the hordes of angry Lavellans he's left behind (and the one sad but coping Lavellan of mine). 

 

 

Y'know that's the vibe I'm getting when I come into this thread. I'm not saying no one is welcome here but I'm getting to the point where I don't want to come in here anymore cause there are more 'Screw that guy" and "This guy is so much better so let's talk about him a ton" happening in this thread. I'm not saying Solas is perfect and he's upset some players including me but I still love the guy and want a chance at a happy ending for him and my Lavellan other than just wanting to murder knife him like some people do.

 

I feel there is more hate for Solas in this thread and it bothers me. I know some of you want to joke around about Solas and I'm fine with that but it kinda goes too far and then it turns to hate again. *sigh*

 

I'm probably the only one here that feels this way.......

it was kind of a weirdly intimate face stroking between solas and flemythal, was a little jealous but then he kills her so eh

 

was more worried about him and the spirit of wisdom. solas never really gives blackwall a straight answer about doing the do with spirits, iron bull kind of teases him about it, his post mission banter with cole says something about "in his own way he knew wisdom as no man or spirit before"

 

like did we only get to romance him after we mercy killed his ex girlfriend?

just played a little in the Hinterlands, helping people here and there...Solas really have a softie side. He approved expecialy of helping families and couples (return the guy at home and leaving the cult, giving back the ring at the widowed elf, take back filactry and letter to the mage woman...) he surely like if we help family and lovers reunite.

 

I find it curious though that he'll give a Slightly Approves if the Inquisitor tells the elf to go home but if you let him do it it's an Approves. Confirming my thought that he's a bit of an ego maniac who likes the sound of his own opinions.

It's all an act, I say! Make you think he's a softie all for love and family! it's like the smiley face and the timid demeanor at the start!... But no, seriously, I only noticed that recently too, but only because I noticed Varric never seemed to gain approval when doing any of those missions, but Cass and Solas do.

Eh, don't all the Companions approve more if you let them say it, rather than saying it yourself? I'd take it more as a 'pleased that you're letting them voice their opinion' more than anything else.

I do not remember after what game I played ME. Maybe Deus Ex: HR or something. Anyway, it was directly after a game I had loved to death. When I started playing ME1 I just thought, "Are you ****** kidding me?!" I really disliked it, it felt so clunky. But TPS are hard to come by after a while (I play... a lot), so I forced myself to see it through. I gave up after a few hours and did not feel like playing anymore (and that's really rare for me). Next day was also meh. After that... let's say when I had finished it I replayed immediately. And I had not done that ever before. I was so excited about the story I even told my colleagues about it (i.e., I basically talked to the walls).

 

Your husband could also use his madness to write some nice little Solas punching game. I bet there's money in that. Money which you could use to buy Solas DLC and merchandise -- win-win.

 

 

This brings me hope. It's so difficult for me to get into anything else at all when I've been really on board something for such a long stretch. Inquisition has dominated my brain for so long. I could do with a change, if only for the health of my poor little mind.

 

And YES. I like the way you think. I bet he'd totally be on board with that. Will report back.

I'm with you on this.

I know I'm in the minority with that opinion, but I have huge issues with the inquisitor as a strong hero. To me, she just listens to her advisors and then chooses one of the options presented to her. She's a doormat to me as far as the game presentation goes. And I'll never understand what Solas sees in her...

 

I picture Solas getting turned on by intellect, but I don't think he'd deal well with somebody as smug as him. So Morrigan would have the brains but she's too much like him. They'd be fighting constantly over who's right Stubborn as they both are, neither would give in. At some point he'd probably turn into a wolf and bite her head off to silence her. *g*

Yep, that's how I see it too. When you challenge his perceptions on things, he doesn't really handle that well, Lavellan or otherwise. You're told that you're wise if you agree with what he says, and your actions fall in line with what he likes enough. Otherwise....

 

As for the Inquisition and the inquisitors, I wonder if this applies to everyone's quizzy... as a trevelyan I honestly never felt this way, but as Lavellan, coming in to "spy" and being swept along as the prophet for a god I don't believe in to an organization that is basically an arm of the chantry who was nothing but dicks to my people... It feels a lot different.

I don't see solas hate, maybe grieving but what did you expect of people not being angry at the only LI romance that breaks up with you? I imagine this was like the anders thread. 

 

I view it as grieve, at least for me. has anyone seen my bird pooped solas mod? I made it during Christmas time.

I would like to agree with you. I really would. But then we have somebody running to a moderator when Liz or Carrie posts silly art. You're absolutely allowed to not like/agree with what other people say in this thread. Reporting things because you don't like/agree with them is just reprehensible.

Take a heart! I completely agree! My Lavellan is a huntress, damnit! She's not a wolf because she's scared of them but she is a predator with every quality Solas can give in his first flirt, damnit! Muscles, indomitable focus, and grace! And sass! Definitely sass!

But yes, disclaimer, that's my girl really. This is also why I don't self insert, I'm flabby, have no focus, so clumsy I trip over my own feet standing still on a mild breezy day, and only come up with amazing wit and sass after the opportunity to use it has looong passed.)

 

My Lavellan is definitely too predatory to be a halla. Although I don't mind the visual symbolism of people who do choose to use it as their Lavellan's totem- it is a pretty cool animal. The stag is not necessarily a humble creature. 

 

But I imagine my Lavellan would be more akin to a fox. Another trickster, another predator. She is smaller and perhaps goes undetected by the other forest greats- but she's always watching. Woe be to those who underestimate her.

He is her (Flemythal's) oldest friend, and they've been friends for years beyond counting, and in the pantheon she is something akin to a mother of the other gods. Given the context of their friendship I found such close familiarity appropriate and full of meaning/feeling.

 

Solas has an unfortunate habit of evading questions and not giving straight/complete answers about many things, I wouldn't get too wrapped up in that.

 

I seriously doubt there was anything romantic/sexual between Solas and the spirit of Wisdom.

My Adaar and Solas disagree on just about everything when it comes to magic (though Adaar did rescue Wisdom), and I never got more than a "slightly disapproves" from Solas.  In fact, some of the arguments they've had are really interesting: for example, the one about whether spirits are people.  He's obviously not going to approve if you challenge him, but he never struck me as handling it badly.  He certainly handles it a lot better than, say, Sera.

Mmm...I was around for the Anders thread post-DA2, and it was a lot scarier in a Fridge Horror sort of way. My Hawke went nutters butters for Anders, and as a player, I was aware that was a BAD THING.  But there were a lot of people flat-out excusing the actions of the character to the point where it got pretty ridiculous.

Solas approves if you argue with him in a way that makes sense, even if he doesn't agree. And you're talking about the guy who disapproves when you choose dialogue options that trust in other peoples' knowledge other than your own. He approves when you take control and trust yourself and your own knowledge and ability. What you're saying about Solas is pretty much the polar opposite of the vibes I got from him. He may not like being disagreed with or proven wrong (who does) but if it's done compellingly, he appreciates it. AKA pretty much all of his exchanges with Varric.

meh, I am able to be an outside perspective. wear somebody's shoes.  Solas can be viewed as a nerd that talks about the fade, racist grandpa, a racist grandpa that talks too much of Back-in-m-day, or whatever. It's no different to me than people disliking sera or vivienne.

Not being a fan of someone doesn't mean outright hate. Don't use words where their meanings don't ring true. In this case some people may have been irked by his character some way or another, but NO ONE on this thread (save maybe a troll or two) has expressed outright hatred for Solas or his character....or else why would they be here in the first place?

Sometimes on this thread it feels like if you aren't endlessly pining for Solas, then you aren't welcome. 

 

Sometimes it can feel like like if you aren't taking the mickey-mouse-cartoon-fun-house* out of Solas and worshipping Babelas, then you aren't welcome too.

 

But I don't think either is the case. ^^

Maybe we should cool it both on the hellspirals (although they are fun) and the joking!Solas-hate?  There's a lot of injokes around here and that could make it pretty inimidating for new people to start posting, or for people who are fans of Solas and come into a converstation that is 'we hate this guy, the other one is better'

 

(which is clearly false.  Abelas is waaaaaaaaaaay down the list of good elves.  Best Elf, Best Wolf and Garahel are at the top.)

I love it Mims! My Lavellan is also much too predatory/tough to be a halla. A red deer stag maybe, they can be bast**ds lol.

 

It's funny how it worked out, pre-DA:I (thus pre Solas true identity information) when I was hashing out the character of my Lavellan, I likened her a lot to a wolf.

 

On the subject of Solas hate etc: Gentle reminder that this thread doubles as a Solas fan thread and as a Solas discussion (therefore input from both sides) thread and that Solas-critical opinions are welcome so long as they are phrased politely and expressed without malicious intent i.e. expressed out of interest in genuine discussion not because you want to stir some pot or rankle some hornets.
