Ah! I've just started Awakening but that's my plan too! (Well I've already played DA:I but that's on my partner's Origins account I want my "canon" playthrough!) Good luck!
Exactly! I want my cannon play through as well so I gotta work on it! I'm about... 1/3rd of the way through Origins right now.
Off to work I go!
Lavellan clan being killed is my and my Inquisitor's worst nightmare, I just find the lack of anyone in Skyhold caring hilarious LOL
Yep, one of my biggest pet peeves. That and the lack of children.... and dogs. (I HEAR THE BARKING, OK? - from the dogs, not the kids lolol)

I'm out of likes now, at least something is normal in the Solas thread this evening!
I just give hearts when I run out so I don't have to go back later and like. x)
Alright, here's a bowl of elfroot. Let out the feels. And let's sit down.
Solas bashing =/= honest character critique. The analysis that went on for several pages about whether or not he was a liar (he is - just not a very good one and much of it is out of self-preservation and self-interest). That was a good discussion. Not character bashing. It was looking at the facts. A variety of opinions were ushered. None of them wrong. Some people took that discussion poorly and saw it as a character attack. It wasn't. Sometimes the truth or what people perceive about us or each other hurts or is wrong. But that's the way the cookie crumbles. We're not perfect people all the time and Solas certainly isn't either.
Solas bashing =/= literary analysis comparison. The parallels between Miltonian Satan Solas set this thread on fire about two months ago. It was meant to help add to the discussion of the character, archetypes of rebels who turn against their God or Gods, and fail to achieve that they had originally sought out to accomplish. There's a reason comparative literature exists in MANY levels of education, especially amongst higher institutions of learning, and there are even masters and Ph.D. level degrees in this field of study. Comparison, analysis, allusion, metaphor all help people understand things by offering similarities and differences between them. I know Solas is not Nicholas Cage because Nicholas Cage has hair. But, like Nicholas Cage, Solas has a round head and pointy chin. They both have light eyes. But are they one and the same? Clearly no. Are both men capable of inciting internet fury? As we've witnessed these past... two months according your timeline, the answer is unabashedly yes.
Solas bashing =/= satire, comedy, or ribald humor. As I stated earlier today, tragedy and comedy are one and the same given enough time and distance. Distance can be either physical, emotional, or mental. It is being able to look at something in a different way in order to understand, cope, or deal with a fact, situation, or person. Being able to laugh at one's self, their interests, and even whom they date is generally a good natured trait. Likewise, it is similar to the literary analysis issue - being able to see things from multiple perspectives and allowing humor to color the viewpoint. It connects ideas in ways that might not be readily visible. Likewise, comedy, humor, satire, dirty jokes and the like are all ways to get people to laugh. To have fun. To heal. To live and let live. It's a normal, healthy response.
With all due respect, Liz, and I love your art, and I think you are incredibly witty, this is just your take on what occurred...

It's okay Maria13. We can feel differently about it and I'll still think you're cool as balls.
Hypothetical scenario/character question for the thread that I thought of the other day but forgot to post:
Which is more important to your Lavellan - Solas, or elves as a whole?
No right or wrong answer, just interested in everyones' characterizations. ![]()

Agreed.
And how the heck did you know I had a thing for Zac Quinto and Chris Pine? Am I that obvious?

Well, since since we can't see dogs or children..maybe it is the kids barking...you can't know for sure. :-P
Elves as a whole for both of them. Solas is great, she's digging the ride, but I can't see either sacrificing an entire race for him. Theoretically, there can be other lovers after Solas, even if they can't keep up with his years of experience, but they're both against the idea of slaughter of innocents etc etc.

My Lavellan cares about people in general.
So both are important. She loves being an elf, elves in general and her culture. She's in love with Solas. She also cares for anyone who feels cast to the edges - the refugees, her fellow mages, people caught in the middle of huge fights.

Can everybody at least agree to disagree at this point? Or at least promise not to report things you don't like/agree with?
Otherwise this will be a regretful parting of the ways.

To my Solasmance, very elfy elf Lavellan, definitely elves. She loved and probably still loves Solas dearly, but her love for her clan is much older and deeper. And now that she has a position of power, and in her run Briala is pulling the strings in Orlais with Gaspard as puppet-governor, after defeating Corypheus her top priority is using her position to try and change the situation of all elves across Thedas. She wants to create a bond between city elves and the Dalish, and convince them that they may change their lot but only if they join forces. So if she was presented with choosing between helping Solas or helping modern elves and couldn't possibly choose both, she'd probably choose helping the elves.

Depends on what degree we're taking "important". If given the choice between helping Solas or helping the elves, she'd help Solas. She's closer to him at the moment, especially since her cultural identity has been shaken by all the DAI revelations (my canon Lavellan, at least). But she's not going to say, commit genocide for Solas, and if it were an "all the elves die or Solas dies" situation she'd choose the elves.
I mean...she's not a monster.

Hmmm...
Like in a save the elves or save Solas situation? She would have to keep her people safe...she would have a serious problem with destroying her entire race to save one guy because she's got the hots for him. As far as whose approval is more important to her...hmm probably Solas. I played her as sort of becoming disenchanted by the Dalish especially after the temple of mythal, but also just from living out in the world on her own in her bizarre little reality where she's being worshiped and all the other crazy crap that happens to her.
My Lavellan has a whole huge back story that would take me forever to post (one of these days I really need to write it all down). She was found in the forest by the Dalish when she was a little girl. Her parents were no where to be found. She was too young to really understand what had happened to her parents, other than her mother told her to run. Anyway...because she was found by the Dalish, she really doesn't feel like she is one. They were all rather suspicious of her from the very beginning because she could use magic at such a young age. She didn't really have many friends and really only bonded with the Keeper since it was the Keeper who raised her.
Soooooo... even though she is an elf...she doesn't really feel like one. She feels like an outsider. To answer the question.. Solas means more to her than elves.
I'm so lost.
What is going on here?
What is up with the title ("VhenaaAAAAnnn")?
Why are there so many avatars with those weird glue-on doll eyes???
