What would help, would be clearly defined parameters about what is and is not cool to post.

Right now, those decisions seem very arbitrary. Knowing these things would go a long way to solving the problem. We don't. It's not clear. That is a problem.

Here are the rules for the forums as a whole: http://forum.bioware...c/3-site-rules/

That's about as specific as you're going to get. Even if we were to outline rules for what is and is not "cool" right now, that could change if new people show up with different tastes. Or if people that are asleep right now show up and have a different idea in a few hours. You're not going to get some sort of clear, black and white guideline for what is or is not going to offend people. Which sucks but... it is what it is.

I don't think it's possible, tbh and I don't think we need a set of fixed rules like a school classroom (though that list Avejajed did some pages ago was fantastic) I guess it depends on who is active at the moment and even on their mood. Speaking for me, sometimes I don't care for NSFW stuff, sometimes it's amusing and sometimes it bothers me. Not that I'm going to report it or complain, but it's an example of how even a single person criterion might vary.

There were some very simple rules stated when the first drama occurred: always tag NSFW stuff under spoiler tags, put a link instead of embedding if it's very NSFW. I would add trying to be constructive when someone says they're not feeling comfortable and trying to not post too many gifs in a row. Still, this is an internet forum and it can't be guaranteed that everyone will follow those rules or even the general forum rules for that matter. But the ones posting here usually can try to stick to them.

Excuse you. My copper hair and I are most certainly not creepy.

And Solas is probably a redhead too. I take offense on his behalf. Strong, strong offense!

Draw your weapon, ser!

And how are we going to solve it? There is absolutely no way we can find out who did the reportings, even if it was one person or several. Unless that people decide to speak out, which seems most unlikely, there is just no way to know, at least that I know of. And even if we know it, what? People attack this person for a few pages and does that change anything? It still doesn't stop any other person to come here and report again, there are hundreds of users. I'm not trying to be aggressive here, but unless we go back to politely discussing different opinions and points of view, and are willing to at least consider and argue in a respectful manner with those who don't like certain themes, I honestly don't see what else can be done.

Regarding pantheon headcanon, the glitterotica got me thinking about how they must be really alien beings. Immortal beings that lived for thousands of years at a very slow pace must have ended being quite strange and otherworldly. For instance, I imagine one of them wanting a new piece of jewelry and having slaves spend centuries in crafting it.

Bolded for truthiness. This is the main point of glitterotica. The ancient elvhen empire had crystal spires and towers and floating cities, and that's just the snippet of what Solas told our character. The ancient elves had their empire for thousands of years before the Imperium and humans ever came to the came to their side of the world. How exotic, extravagant, or strange do you think their culture could have gotten in that time.

They are immortal beings who are fundamentally tied to magic and the Fade. They have time to perfect their craft. They have time to try new things. They have time to make themselves as elegant, as humble, or as excessive as they want. This is especially true of their gods. The Dalish have a subdued view of how their gods acted or looked, mostly as a result of piecing together scraps of information. In codex entries in this game, and through Solas, we learn more about the darker and less altruistic parts of their personalities and cult followings.

If you were a god king among immortals, how humble would you be? How sincere and polite would you act in a nest of vipers that plot and plan and have the adoration and fear of their followers? The Game in Orlais? Petty and not nearly as high stakes or deadly as the elven pantheon. These are the beings who demand sacrifice, who hunt their own people for sport, who can and possibly did everything in their power to remain in control or spread their influence.

Sylaise's song? Entirely praise about how awesome she is and how much more powerful she is compared to the rest of the pantheon. Andruil created a weapon of mass destruction. Falon'Din has his creepy title meaning (roughly) that "all paths lead to death."

These are not the benevolent and good-natured gods that the Dalish commonly tell stories about. These are nuanced people who have all the power in the world, and all the time to make use of it.

Alien SHOULD be a word used to describe them. They are/were opulent and excessive. Flemythal is wasted in stature and power, yet she still dresses in such an unusual manner compared to modern styles. That's just a taste of what Arlathan/the elvhen empire could have been like back in the glory days.

Unfortunately for you, daylight only makes my soul-sucking powers a little weaker.

BUT I'VE SAID TOO MUCH.

On topic: Solas demonstrated his ginger soul-sucking powers on Flemythal. I'm not joking around here. Watch your backs.

Edit: I'm suddenly reminded of our discussion way back when on what Mythal soul tasted like. I think we likened it to milkshake flavors but I can't remember what we agreed on.

Mythal vallaslin fits for anybody, really. You're a protector for your clan :D (Sorry, I'm a bit biased b/c that's my fave vallaslin too)

I was expecting Andruil to be a Diana/Artemis figure, but then we got all these crazy stories about how she hunted down slaves/was potentially the one who brought the blight and all that jazz. I admit, I like the "twisted mythos" that Thedas has going for it. Like how Andraste is pretty much female Jesus. Haven't seen that one before! :)

The spirit and elf thing is interesting. I'm not sure if I agree with it, but it would definitely be fun if they showed up in-game. The whole "relationship that has no context in the modern world" between those two makes me wonder how the society of Elvhenan viewed marriage as a social construct. Would they bond for eternity? Would they consider any binding temporary? Would they embrace the concept of polygamy or polyamory? I need a book set in the time of Arlathan now. Weekes, make it happen!

Ooh I didn't think of it that way. Vallaslin saved! Until Solas takes it off. >< Andruil's is ugly anyway. :P

I just love my outright crazy b*tches, in a lot of ways they can be much scarier than a crazy dude, and often are. I love the whole theory that she could have brought about the blight, but I just hope they (BioWare) don't turn everything about the elves. They take a regular beating in almost every serial so far, so they could do with some loving, but I don't want everything to suddenly be "the elves did it". Earlier there were mentions of similarities between qunari and elves, and while it's fascinating for theorycrafting, I hope there's no water behind it.

I think I would just like that dynamic to turn up in game. I know we see it with Wynne and Anders, but I'd love to see it where there is some bonding between a mortal and a spirit that's a bit more forefront and less destructive.

Don't elves "bond"? The mushy part of me likes the idea of eternity to a single other. x) Yes, we definitely need to see that. xD Weekes just give us your brain, man! I promise to handle it carefully!

For some reason, multiquote is not working now, so:

@Rabbit: I'd certainly love to see the elven pantheon doing the time warp  :D

@Lizasaurus: same here, I find that great difference of dimension and perspective fascinating.

I'm just not interested in a forum space where I am always wondering who will I offend. I'm not vulgar, well, maybe a little for added spice, but that's the point. I even spoiler tag shirtless men. So.

Yeah. I guess. I'm just done.

So are we doing swords or guns here? I need to know which to bring and polish the night before to blind you with their shininess with the morning light.

a

Are you her second? I'm telling you, you only should bring nail polish and a Margarita and we'll have girls night after I smoke her with my poisonous tongue.

I don't even ****** know what I'm saying at this point.

Take turns kicking each other in the shins until someone caves, it worked in primary school, it will work now.

So by nurturing his madness you mean amping up my Solas-is-sooo-dreamy gushiness until he snaps? In a really programmer-ish way, and fiendishly programs a bunch-Solas-in-the-face mini-game in one night? Can do!

I never romanced Garrus. I would have if ME1 had let me. But since they "forced" me to commit to Kaidan, and I am loyal, I stuck with him. Anyway, do inform us of how it goes about.

And, yes, I am very much looking forward to that! You doing the character screens, he hitting those keys so hard coding that one hears the CLACK to to moon. I am not so sure what your husband needs for an incentive though. Maybe make a few coding jokes to get him on the right track? I dunno... like... "Honey, Solas is like an endless loop in my kernel". Or "Whenever there are no new dialogue options it feels like a blue screen in my mind". Maybe a "I set a mutex to my heart and Solas got the lock first" could do the trick, too. Best you try different approaches.

It doesn't matter where you are, someone is always not going to like something you say. And they're going to say it. Tis the internet.

We used to do a good job in this thread of listening to others' complaints (which weren't nearly as angry or harsh as they are now) and adjusting behavior accordingly or talking it out. Now we start snarky and defensive fights over it. It's entertaining, at least, but not that great.
