Really wish people would just shut the hell up about the angst and all the crap. How many days old is this now? I know there's not an endless supply of stuff to talk about because no DLC, but this is a FORUM, people. Not highschool. Get over people being mean, get over the mods being in since you don't know who did what. I have five warnings because someone reported me for something someone does all the time. I get passive aggressiveness thrown my way all the time. Who the hell cares. It's dead. Done. On both sides, let the **** go.
Colonelkillabee, you already have a blog named after you, do you want to be nickname the Truth Bringer?
He's not innocent, by making the choice to do nothing he knew a great many people would die but he wasn't the mastermind, pulling the wannabe god's strings to get what he wanted either. The Inquisitor can make a similar choice at the Winter Palace- stop the assassination or let it happen and get the ruler they want on the Orlesian throne.
Well, we don't know that either. Maybe he had an idea that some big bad catastrophe would happen and just shrugged his shoulders about it, or just as likely he had no clue that the individual wielding it could actually tap into the powers in such a way that caused the explosion.
For all we know it's the Inquisitor's fault for picking the thing up and causing the spell to go to **** in the end. ![]()
I think the dreads suit the "god of rebellion" thing, but I prefer him as the egg head he is, too.
I remember seeing a while ago someone was working on getting him hair in game as a mod (I don't know if they actually accomplished this or what), and I'm sorry to say it just looked so bizarre. I loved it in the 2D art where people put their own style on Solas's face and make it work, but with his in-game model... No, it's too weird. Gimme my bald egg/potato/raptor/whatever-he-is-today and leave it at that. ![]()

You're not allowed to pick your own nickname
Call me what you want ![]()

In our world it would sure, but in theirs, it wouldn't hold much significance. I think being the bald god while everyone else has hair (I assume), would be rather "edgy, non conformist and hipster" of him as well.

judging by the cc no one at BW has ever come into contact with a human head of hair, so no worries because i'm fairly certain dreads are beyond them.
and just imagine all the egg puns we would have missed
edit: page top egg duty
Now I'm thinking about how modern science believes raptor-like dinosaurs had feathers/fluff, and everything is more amusing. Dreads/feathers or not... ![]()
(Also the raptors in Jurassic Park were more like Utahraptors, though they weren't discovered until after the movie was made.)
Since a fic has been linked I'm gonna use it as an opportunity to get some opinions:
When reading a ship fic of, say, Shepard or Warden or Hawke or Inquisitor or any other where you can essentially create your own first name and character, do you like fics that refer to the characters first name (whatever that may be), or to either the default first name (ie: John/Jane for Shepard) refer to second name and/or title only?
Personally, I get hugely turned off by fics that use their own first names, as it were. I almost always stop reading, and it has to be a brilliant fic for me to keep reading. I think it's mainly because I like picturing that it's my character there, even if they're described completely different to what mine is.
I'm pretty sure I've talked about this before but fuggit I'll talk about it again since I didn't ask for other opinions last time.

Personally, I've always felt the explosion was the Inquisitor's fault. I mean, as soon as s/he picked it up, it went boom! Poor Cory, getting blamed for things he didn't do!
I don't think that's insane. It's more in line with what I'm thinking had to have happened, because as people say... you don't look at Corypheus and believe all will be well when you hand him a powerful artifact. And then he didn't recognize Solas at the final battle. And yet Flemeth clearly said Solas shouldn't have given his orb to Corypheus, so... how does anyone begin to interpret that.
If he figured handing it over would mean blowing up a bad guy, well, maybe. Still doesn't explain a lot of things.
Cadash Thaig ?
I read somewhere that Cory stole the orb that Solas had carelessly left unguarded while on Uthenera, thinking no one would find it / take it. And his dialog with Flemythal can be explained by his guilt of leaving it on the open for anyone to find, pratically "giving" it to the thief.
I've tweeted an ask about whether it was given or stolen to PW and DG a couple of times, they never answered. I believe there is a lot more to this and we will find out on the DLC.

I wish we could see some memory of ancient arlathan in the fade, it's on my DLC wish list. ><
.
... I actually hadn't considered this. Is there anyone else who is bald within the game? I can't think of anyone else. At all.
There's the other sketchy old elf (Zathrian). And Vivienne? But not really. I assume all the Mythal temple elves are bald too.

For me, it depends entirely on the story. If the story is meant to be as close to the game as possible, with a very neutral main character, then I would avoid using their name. This allows people to fill in the blanks for their own creation.
However, if you are treating the 'player' character as a character in their own right, then use a name. People can't as easily apply their headcanons to a distinct character.

Oh I definitely want to see young Solas ** drools **

There's a few background elves in the alienage who are bald, but I'm not sure if that counts.

that one guy that was with andraste was bald.

Oh yeah, Shartan!
I remember we once speculated in here that shaving their heads might be a way of celebrating elfiness. Because it makes their ears more prominent.
OH! The brooding silent dalish elf from Sutherland and Company quests! he was bald.

LOL, I'm the exact opposite
As a reader, I prefer fics that use their own first names because I love seeing people's different takes on the PC. But that's not a strong preference.
As a writer, I have an impossible time writing generic, default PCs unless it's porn-without-plot for the kink meme. Partially because I really like my own PCs
We spend hundreds of hours with these characters and get attached to them. And partially because I have trouble connecting with a character that's essentially a placeholder for headcanon, and that lack of interest makes them difficult to write.
Oh yeah, Shartan!

Lol yea, Addai said baldness was key to elf manliness. Like humans and beards. I approve.

That's as weird to me as someone suggesting to shave your chest to celebrate humans. We'll never know until there is some extraterrestrial race to compete with.
Also he's being melodramatic.
Ugh, Solas, what a Drama King!
