That's as weird to me as someone suggesting to shave your chest to celebrate humans. We'll never know until there is some extraterrestrial race to compete with.
Do the Welsh count?

Cadash Thaig ?
I read somewhere that Cory stole the orb that Solas had carelessly left unguarded while on Uthenera, thinking no one would find it / take it. And his dialog with Flemythal can be explained by his guilt of leaving it on the open for anyone to find, pratically "giving" it to the thief.
I've tweeted an ask about whether it was given or stolen to PW and DG a couple of times, they never answered. I believe there is a lot more to this and we will find out on the DLC.
The Cadash Thaig theory is something we've thought about deeply! I've left the realm of rational thought in my sleepy state so I'm going to attempt to quote Meer here.
Ugh, Solas, what a Drama King!
Also, have a hipster Solas.
He really needs the whole black roll neck sweater, 50s' left bank, Jean Paul Sartre treatment!
For me, it depends entirely on the story. If the story is meant to be as close to the game as possible, with a very neutral main character, then I would avoid using their name. This allows people to fill in the blanks for their own creation.
However, if you are treating the 'player' character as a character in their own right, then use a name. People can't as easily apply their headcanons to a distinct character.
LOL, I'm the exact opposite
As a reader, I prefer fics that use their own first names because I love seeing people's different takes on the PC. But that's not a strong preference.
As a writer, I have an impossible time writing generic, default PCs unless it's porn-without-plot for the kink meme. Partially because I really like my own PCs
We spend hundreds of hours with these characters and get attached to them. And partially because I have trouble connecting with a character that's essentially a placeholder for headcanon, and that lack of interest makes them difficult to write.
I suppose I'm asking because I do very well intend to write a DA fic, and I don't want people to be turned off from it immediately by whether I use a first name or not. I don't know if my preference is a minority/majority. ![]()
There was a ME Shepard/Garrus fic I read that I loved. Shepard was Jane, she had the red hair and green eyes, but she had a distinct personality, more Renegade than Paragon with an Earthborn background, most definitely not my Shepard in the slightest, but I loved it regardless because of that, and the fact she was Jane with red hair and green eyes made it easier to go through. If they'd given her a different first name, (the looks I could have skipped on) I don't think I would have been able to finish it.
Lol yea, Addai said baldness was key to elf manliness. Like humans and beards. I approve.
Solas is manliness. Yay!
Since a fic has been linked I'm gonna use it as an opportunity to get some opinions:
When reading a ship fic of, say, Shepard or Warden or Hawke or Inquisitor or any other where you can essentially create your own first name and character, do you like fics that refer to the characters first name (whatever that may be), or to either the default first name (ie: John/Jane for Shepard) refer to second name and/or title only?
Personally, I get hugely turned off by fics that use their own first names, as it were. I almost always stop reading, and it has to be a brilliant fic for me to keep reading. I think it's mainly because I like picturing that it's my character there, even if they're described completely different to what mine is.
I'm pretty sure I've talked about this before but fuggit I'll talk about it again since I didn't ask for other opinions last time.
It's not an immediate turn off, and some default names I just don't like, but fair or not it does put me on guard for Mary Sueness. I'm more likely to backspace because of the personality and how they interact with the other characters than the name.
For ME and DA2 I don't like it when the first name is used more than the Shepard/Hawke, that seems OOC to me.

Actually, I'm more turned off reading a fanfic with a mage Lavellan (my only mage Lavellan is for Cullen. Solas get to be with my fovourite class, DW rogue) and long blonde hair. First, is way too clichè. Second, there are no long hairstyle in the CC. Third, I don't like how usually are depicted, as if those hair are the most feminine, fantastic thing in the world. Short hair are just as beautiful and feminine. And I always make my character with shortish hair when possibile.
speaking of shartan (sort of)
how long are we going to have to wait before PW tells us what all those infuriatingly obscure banters meant between solas and cole?
I always assumed the "she wants a chantry but it does something else" banter was about andraste, and that plus the stainglass panel of shartan as a bald elf holding a key meant he was shartan, which wouldn't be a huge earth shattering revelation or anything at this point.
even bonny sims, even your npc vendors were lying to you about who they were, this game is giving me trust issues.

Well, we don't know that either. Maybe he had an idea that some big bad catastrophe would happen and just shrugged his shoulders about it, or just as likely he had no clue that the individual wielding it could actually tap into the powers in such a way that caused the explosion.
For all we know it's the Inquisitor's fault for picking the thing up and causing the spell to go to **** in the end.
Until BW tell us what happened between Solas and Cory (if they ever do) we're all stuck with guessing and our own interpretations.

*hides blonde Lavellan icon* *cough*
I agree with hair length though, or artwork that show Inquisitors with loose, long hair. That's why my Lavellan channels Trinity from the Matrix (I girl crushed her so hard). I can't take any Inquisitor or Shepard or whatever seriously when they have long, flowing hair that can get caught in anything and get in the way of a fight. I usually headcanon my Lavellan wears her hair back in a hairband of some sort to keep it out of her face when in the field, but yep, short hair all the way. I even find the buns and ponytails a bit sore to take seriously too. x)
Edit because holy **** I can't grammar.

I expect to wait a long time before we get anything concrete about Solas or those conversations with Cole. I get the impression that a Wolf Hunt DLC will end up leaving us with more questions than answers. Like Witch Hunt did.

Lol I never trust a man without one
Trying too hard to show he has nothing to hide.
But...But glorious, long, smooth elfy hairdo?I mean they're elves they don't have to worry about realism and common sense right?
Not unless their ears are so big they whip them in the face. ![]()
I suppose it's fine if the character wears a helmet to ravel the hair in (and then get the opportunity to do the sexy totes realistic take-helmet-off-long-hair-cascades-out-of-it-swish-swish), but my girl's a hunter. She likes to see without the hindrance of a helmet blocking her peripheral vision. ![]()
*hides blonde Lavellan icon* *cough*
She have short hair
so she is safe (and she is too cute to hide!)
I have this "long blond hair" clichè that really irk me a little. Mostly because when I was a child, my grandma always enphatised it when reading me fairy tails, or always expressing how good looking are blonde hair, and many of the older Disney princesses always had blond hair, and I am dark haired, tomboysh, with never hair longher than chin lenght. so I felt excluded a little.
(stupid thing, I know)
I guess I'm feeling a little repulsive of the clichè because "the long haired blond girl" clicè was almost everywhere. From Super Mario, Disney's princess, and so on.

Pfft. Whatever, Conan! *flips you the middle finger*
Actually, I don't even know what you're talking about.....I'm just bored. *shows self out of thread* I was never here. ![]()
The updo hair styles, like the braided one, have long hair technically.
I'm a big fan of braided styles personally. But I also love short. I had a really really short pixie for 10 years.
If I could pull it off, I would. ;_;
I forgot the braided hairstyle. That's fine in my eyes, ain't nothing gon' unravel those braids. ![]()

Long hair doesn't bother me in fics as long as a point is made of it usually being tied back. Long hair in itself is an low maintenance option but absolute hell when your bf sleeps on it.
I really like the aesthetics of long hair, and I think with the way the game works, that long hair would actually look a bit better than the shorter hair styles, but it's not practical. As an actual archer , you /have/ to tie your hair back when your shoot. Hair getting caught in the string can send your shot way, way off.
My girl is a mage so she can turn her hair into snakes if she wishes to(such a shame there's not such specialisation in DAI),so as far as she's concerned keeping them long is more practical. Not unless their ears are so big they whip them in the face.

I have long hair! You hate me! *cries* Ok, ok it's dark hair ... except for the grey parts but we pretend those don't exist.
I would like long hair in a game if they ever solved the clipping issues. But these days it seems most game devs either go exclusively with short hair (including a dozen different styles of buzz cut oh yay) or just ignore the clipping (which just looks bad).
Pff I know right,I made the mistake to leave my hair down once.Had to tie them back eventually because my shots were atrocious.I really like the aesthetics of long hair, and I think with the way the game works, that long hair would actually look a bit better than the shorter hair styles, but it's not practical.
