Unrelated, but do you think Solas can ride? Horses, get your head out of the gutter.

I'm picturing my Inquisitor getting fed up with having to walk everywhere with him when it would be so much faster to ride, so she decides to teach him. Horses make Solas surprisingly uncomfortable.

You can already do that, just switch to his character and ride a mount.

Yessss. I may have to write that. The Inquisitor slowly giving up as Solas slides sideways and sort of gently and pathetically falls off a horse that's barely trotting.

I don't know what to dooo. Blackwall isn't my favorite character, but I think he looks pretty awesome in that art. I'd also like Dorian. And Solas. And Cole. And Sera. And...I don't need that many shirts.

Going to be some rough choices ahead.

I was tempted to buy the Blackwall shirt for my sister (she's a Blackwallmancer) and the Cass shirt for her husband as a surprise but I decided I wasn't rich enough so I'd rather buy (another) Solas shirt for myself. :P

Though Dorian and Cole do look precious...

I'd think he could probably ride. He seems like an earthy sort of fellow, and probably knows a charm animal spell or two. Horseback riding itself isn't that complicated.

Mount of choice in Arlathan was halla though, so there might be some differences in riding style. As halla appear to be partially sentient, or at least on the level of a mabari.

That, and the locomotion of an animal that's deer-like would be completely different from that of a horse. I don't know if the Inquisition can get their hands on many halla just to please Solas though.

Oooooh, those Aimo designs are so pretty! I really really love the Leliana one, my favorite, I think.

There's no way someone thousands of years old doesn't know how to do everything. In theory.

Also true!

It also doesn't seem like halla are ridden much anymore. Or if they are, they probably are uniquely bonded to whomever it is they choose to allow to ride them, like the mabari. But that's just me speculating.

DA mobile game has some pretty cool designs for halla mounts though.  In my dream version of DA:I, each starting race would get their own unique animal pet. So humans would get a mabari, dalish would get a halla, dwarves get a nug, and qunari get...something...hyena maybe? Hawk?

It's too late for me. I bought my ticket and there's no returns. I'm on the train for the remainder of the journey now. Maybe it won't lead to disaster...

Banal nadas, lethallan  :D

Personally, I feel like I already paid my disaster dues with my crazy Resolutionist Hawke and Anders.  I knew it wasn't going to end well, and something tells me that Anders is not long for this world if Hawke doesn't come back from the fade.

You just keep going deeper in the shipping whirlpool.

It was Mass Effect (specifically the kink meme) that did it for me.  After you'd had lengthy, sleep-deprived conversations about the various species' anatomy and sexual prowess, you're in the shipping whirlpool for life.

A fighting mabari or hyena, a halla to ride, and a useless nug. So dwarves are not only short themselves, they must also get the short end of the stick?

I also wonder if halla used to be bigger. The halla in the game seem to be fairly small, and it's difficult to picture how they could withstand the body weight, from a biological perspective. Even if they're immensely strong, deer just aren't built in the same way horses are, and tend to weigh far less.

No way! Nugs give the team +20 in adorable. Also, we train them to scavenge. So while you are out on a mission, you nug companion brings you back all sorts of rare goods to make up for it. You also get fawned over by Leliana, and get to exchange nug rearing tips. We can make this work.

Now I'm picturing Iron Bull and my Adaar riding one of the bewilderbeasts from How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Is now headcanon.

If you let them feast on the blood of your enemies, they turn into a nugmount.  That's how it works, right?

I could also have a bite when severely injured and recover 50% health (good for a limited number of uses).

Possibly. But then again, the dalish also use them as draft animals. So they have to be strong to be able to pull the aravels.

I think its more likely that the game scales them too small. But in lore, they are probably a fair bit bigger.

Or maybe there are several species of them, and we get only to see the tiniest kind of specie in game?

But yeah, I wish to see bigger types of Halla, real badass Harts, and not some type of gazelle-like animals.

From what I recall, weren't the Harts supposed to be Halla mounts instead? I think they changed it to be Harts part of the way through development. That would have been great. Halla are supposed to be dangerous if you treat them like a horse, like, they will legit gore you and feast on your bones if you're a jerk to them.

Ok, maybe not that last part, but they're not the sheepy things represented in DAO/DAI. They really should be bigger to represent their role as mounts and (willing) beasts of burden to pull Aravels.
