Hey now.  BJ Blaczkowicz and Serious Sam are my main bros. I can handle my manly men. Geralt is so freaking BORING.  Tell him to stop and maybe I'll hang out with him.

 

EDIT: Top Concept art Solas.  What could have been. I'm seriously disappointed we didn't get Fade Haircut Solas.  So much fun could have been had with that one.

Same.  It's why I never got into the Witcher series despite being told over and over again that I'd like it.  I'm sure there are a lot of elements to the Witcher that I'd like, but I just can't get past wanting to punch Geralt in his stupid pale mug.  And not liking the main character kind of kills any RPG 

 

I do make some exceptions to my "games should be fun" rule.  For example, Spec Ops: The Line.  I'm terrible at shooters.  That game was not fun for me in the slightest.  But it was fascinating and devastating and such a good piece of genre deconstruction.  Even if afterword I just wanted to huddle up in a ball and hide from the human race.

 

Ah, Spec Ops.. that was certainly a memorable experience. "Do you feel like a hero yet?" haunts me to this day.

 

I'm really glad to learn how you people level up Solas, because I see now that I'm really terrible at leveling up my party members. I already wrote some pointers down for my next playthrough. Yay!

I'm de-lurking to ask a question:

 

I have restarted my canon playthrough and I noticed there was either a small change to one part of dialogue with Solas or I just made something differently this time and that's why it never happened before.

 

When my Lavellan asked Solas about why he's studying the fade, he replayed as usual, but when she asked later "Is that why you joined the Inquisition" his reply has changed for me.

Before, he would say that he joined, because of the threat to the world and that it's destruction would leave no place for him to lay and dream of the Fade and that's it.

Now he said that as well, but then Lavellan said:

'Aha!'

and he replied:

'Inquisitor... that is the reason why I joined but not the reason why I stayed"  

 

I've never seen that before, was this added or maybe it was always there, but happens only when Inquisitor has a high approval with Solas?

 

Anyway, I like the way he says that,

 

It's a high approval version of the dialouge.  Slightly immersion breaking if you raise his approval too quickly since he ends up calling you 'Inquisitor' before you get the title...

This. I actually enjoy playing as men in RPG's sometimes.  Usually it's the VA.  Like Male Sarcastic Hawke is best. He really is.  Geralt though....I wanted to just shove him down some steps screaming "WHY ARE YOU SO DULL????!!!" 

 

The VA might be a little flat, but I think Geralt's character is amazing. I can't wait for the Witcher 3 *-*

 

 

So I'm pretty sure you could make a drinking game for the Solavellan specific tropes that are rife in the Solavellan fanfic community.. Read synopses and take a shot each time one features lmao. Note I'm not saying these are bad or anything, its just lighthearted fun, I'm sure we're all guilty of them in our own turns haha

Maybe immersion breaking, but maybe he was already seeing where this all was going and predicted she would become Inquisitor. I don't know. It wouldn't be the first time he said something  that would become true in the future (broken orb).

Female here and I prefer playing females when the game allows.  That said, I loved the first Witcher game despite its faults.  First playthrough I tried to be as "chaste" as possible, which means I think I only slept with 3 women and had a 3-way with 2 vampire chicks.  Yes that was chaste.  Second playthrough I slept with every woman possible, sometimes more than one at a time.  Except the witch, her card was kinda creepy.

 

However, I have a serious hate for the second Witcher game.  Despise it.

 

And I also just play however I like.  Which is why I had multiple runs through Origins where I romanced Alistair only.  And multiple runs through DAI where I romance Solas only.  And I refuse to play a game unless it actually appeals to me even if friends say I should totally totally play X game.  I'm also stubborn.

also dislike all default "scruffy man's man with stubble and a gun" protagonists.

I almost never ever read fics, i am very particular about tone and characterization and when you start deviating so completely from the source material it's practically never worth the read.

 

but that said, maybe we all have a laugh at how most of it is teenage girls writing escapist self inserts but what is the majority of main stream entertainment franchises but male fantasy wish fulfiment? they made a space for themselves and populated it with their own creative projects so i say right on, if you want to write a story about how your lavellan is the reincarnated elven halla princess attending a modern university with professor solas than god speed you beautiful little acorn.

I hope this doesn't mean Elessara and I need to get into a ritual knife-fight or anything. (I'd lose so bad. )

I've come to the realization that it's probably a good thing that the only bald men I know personally are about as far away from Solas in build and personality as you can get, since I'd never stop making fun of them for giving the Orb away like that. Or setting their tailcoats on fire.

This sounds... very fitting for hobo Solas. Because to stay warm in the winter, hobos tend to camp in libraries through the day. Get back alley tats from his fellow spider hobo, and watch old movies because that's the only thing the library offers.

You're on a roll today, Caddius *High Five* Geralt isn't just this "try hard rugged badass", the guy is a philosopher and very intelligent too. He could hold his own with Solas in a conversation for instance. He's not boring to me, he's just more self contained than other men, usually, which was the way men were supposed to be once upon a time before people started looking to guys like Cullen and so on.

 

Geralt is a man's man. You don't see protagonists like him around much anymore.

I second that damn it. =.= I was getting close to convincing myself that another playthrough with a difference PC and romance, saving my second playthrough of the Solas romance for when DLC gets released, would be a fantastic idea. Hearing about this dialogue, and finally getting past my stupidity and lack of common sense with flycam and things figuring out flycam, has practically cemented me doing a second playthrough of the Solas romance. I was just officially invoked into the cyclone of feels and brokenheartedness. My heart isn't prepared for a second round of it yet, but... But I've already decided, haven't I?
