Favorite scene from the Witcher.

NSFW. Obviously, what scene from the Witcher is, really.

Spoiler

   Mine too. Triss makes Lels look like nothing. Now that's a redhead.

Iron Bull feels me on this, I'm sure.

You're on a roll today, Caddius  *High Five* Geralt isn't just this "try hard rugged badass", the guy is a philosopher and very intelligent too. He could hold his own with Solas in a conversation for instance. He's not boring to me, he's just more self contained than other men, usually, which was the way men were supposed to be once upon a time before people started looking to guys like Cullen and so on.

Geralt is a man's man. You don't see protagonists like him around much anymore.

I wasn't a big fan of Geralt until the end of Chapter One set off a series of 'Caddius Greatly Approves'.

The combination of his contempt for the hypocrites among the village people and his exasperation with the whole prison situation, followed by his worrying over morality and philosophy with Zoltan and whether he can actually help people, specifically. Which got me interested enough that I looked into the books more.

I bear a special hatred for the cookie-cutter 'stubbly manly men with gun' protagonists', but Geralt doesn't fit in there. (If they have personality, stubbly manly men with guns can also be interesting.) He reminds me a bit of John Marston. Some obvious big gulfs in personality and experience, but both are thoughtful men taken for thugs and hired killers by their employers, but they try to stay out of other people's affairs. But they're more than willing to snark off to them and debate them on their personal philosophy or politics. I'd love to see a fanfiction with Solas, Marston, and Geralt in a train compartment together.

It can kind of depend how you play him.  He can come across as intelligent and thoughtful or as just a hack and slash grunt who likes sex.  I haven't read the books so I don't know how he compares there.

Hmm, the second Witcher game.  Well, they completely ignore Shani like she never existed for one.  I mean, I didn't like her much to begin with but she was there and you could "choose" her over Triss in the first game.  I hated the stupid timed mini things they threw in ... click this thing 50 times in this combat to win!  The inventory on release was TERRIBLE.  The crafting was awkward.  The combat was more annoying to me than the first game.  The hookers were all diseased looking and had unrealistically giant breasts - poor girls probably all had back problems and not from their profession.  In the opening combat sequences I think I heard "Plow the lilies!" a thousand times - someone should have made that into a drinking game, take a drink every time you hear it!  You'd have been drunk in 30 minutes.  The children were irritating - I swear they had adult voice actors try to pretend to be children (badly).  The only woman in the entire game I found remotely interesting turned out to not be human and amazingly enough she didn't want to sleep with Geralt.  And generally I just found the story boring as hell.  By the end of the game I didn't care what happened to anyone.  They could have all died and I would have been happy.

On the plus side, the graphics were nice.

On the whole I prefer the DA games.  Better story, better VAs - in my opinion of course.

Don't disagree with the annoying gameplay stuff, but the story was very interesting to me. You have an approaching army coming to finish what they started, while the Northern kingdoms are being thrown into chaos by their secret weapon, bum bum bum, a witcher, who you're set up by. Now you've got to clear your name and find this *******, but not before choosing between the scoiatel rebels or the ******* humans, choosing loyalty to Roche if you felt any and clearing your name, or fighting for a cause and your own (non humans) plus going after Triss if your geralt has feelings for her.

Then there's the assassination attempt on the rebel's awesome leader, throw in an awesome curse that locks down the entire battlefield, a sorcerer conspiracy behind the rule of all their kings...

How could the story be any more interesting to be honest? There's so much depth and complexity, it makes dragon age look like a children's story.

And they're hookers. They're supposed to look nasty and skeezy, especially medieval hussies. Didn't bother me, I don't pay for sex. Too cheap.

The comparison to John Marston is excellent. Red Dead Redemption's one of my favorite games period.

I guess it was interesting if you actually cared about the lore.  Which I didn't.  And really I was hoping for a more ... hrm, supernatural? ... threat and it turned out to be just politics.  I find politics boring.  Now, if they had expanded upon the prophecy thing that was in the first game, that would have drawn me in more.  I can see political crap in real life if I really want to.  And honestly nothing of what you listed there seems particularly deep or complex.  Especially not when it's condensed into a small paragraph lol.

So I guess my simple brain prefers children stories.  =p

You played the game already, lol. I thought I'd spare the Solas thread an in depth description of the story. My summary was just a brief description of everything going on. To show just how much there is going on. Lots of twists and turns and it's not convoluted either. Plus, your decisions actually matter... That's a huge plus.

There's the Wild Hunt coming for the third one. Personally, I like that the supernatural wasn't the main focus. Something more political was a breath of fresh air, but that's me. Had enough of demon invasions and such from TES and Dragon Age.

If we didn't have that pesky customization system and height variables, we could have gotten something as steamy as witcher.

Yeah but people want to play as different races and genders and classes!  I have no idea who these people are, I mean customization is bad!  Right?

Oh, also DA has companions.  Witcher does not.  Companions are awesome.

Bleh, I just wish there'd be news about a DLC to give us something to talk about.

Or new, whichever. On topic I mean. I know people are annoyed by off topicness, but well, there's not much else to say.

Talking about the clipping stuff? I guess that would be a headache to deal with if dragon age had scenes like Witcher's.

Not just clipping but getting the characters to match up with hand holding, hand placement, animations, head direction when looking at someone or talking to them, height for kissing animation.  As an example, for the dance with Duchess Florianne they had to do 8 different sets of animation.

I hope they keep the races for DA4.

Forced to play a straight male and no companions? Yeah Witcher is definitely not the game for me.

I agree.  DA2 was not ideal, I mean you could at least play as a female but I think the lack of race choice hurt that game.  I was being sarcastic about the customization being bad thing. :D
