I'm so sorry. I never meant to hurt you. Please, vhenan.
and unlike Solas I am totally lying, I'm not sorry, I have no heart.

Tis alright, I shall now reflect on the futility of my entire life while sipping some wine.

(Nah, it's just an excuse to drink wine, I'm fiiiine.)

I wonder how many people will be overly suspicious of the new partymembers in DA4, trying to figure out which ones are going to betray or lie to us next.

I, for one, am very interested to meet the next apostate mage companion we get for DA4 because the last three we got (Morrigan, Anders, and Solas) sure left their mark on many people in the fandom.

And if said apostate companion is romanceable, I'm gonna start wondering how he/she is going to potentially break our hearts. :P

It seems like every game they add another apostate train wreck romance.

Watch. Now that we've figured out their pattern, the next heartbreaker is going to be a rogue or something and the apostate will be the fluffy, normal romance.

It's because all relationships without love for the Maker first and foremost fail, obviously. Apostates don't deserve love.

So much this.  Sorry, Solas.  BFFs before weird elf god boyfriends.

I think one of my Lavellan's conditions for letting him crawl back will have to be "Stop being an ass to Dorian."

Eh, they're not that bad together as long as they stay off the topic of elves. Solas really isn't interested in discussing elf and ancient elf related things with Dorian, which is understandable all things considered. He's really not into connecting with Dorian, a Tevinter, on that level, even if Dorian pushes the issue a couple times.

They're great when they talk shop about magic together, though! I wish they'd had more intellectual conversations along those lines. They would have gotten along better if they'd had more of those types of talks.

Patrick Weekes just tweeted four hours ago something like: <"Hah, this Feels Like Home song Diana Krall & Bryan Adams do sounds like it could turn into Toy Story at any moment."

One Google later: Oh.>

Turn into a Toy Story at any moment or a Solas story? The lyrics of the song fit Solas a lot. It's the second tweet about HOME, the HIRAETH and now this. May be just my imagination, but I want to believe there is something more about this.

Song lyrics:

Something in your eyes

Makes me wanna lose myself
Makes me wanna lose myself
In your heart
There's something in your voice
Makes my heart beat fast
Hope this feeling
Will last the rest of my life

If you knew how lonely my life has been
And how low I've felt for so long
If you knew how
I wanted someone to some along
And change life the way you've done

It feels like home to me feels like home to me
Feels like I'm on my way back where I come from
Feels like home to me feels like home to me
Feels like I'm on my way back where I belong

With your embrace down a long dark street
And a sigh of wind in the night
But I'm alright 'cause I have you here with me
And I can almost see the dark feels light

If you knew how much this moment means to me
And how long I've waited for your touch

Could this tweet be about Solas? Maybe Weekes will get inspired by this song and write a beautiful and passionate love story... Or maybe I'm just dreaming    . This is what I can do, dream and hope of a happy ending story. This is what's left for the solasmancers...dreaming, hoping, wishing. Weekes, do you hear us?? I don't think it is fair for solasmancers to be doomed. All other romances are fulfilled, except for the solasmancers. Why? Are we some voodoo dolls to stick needles in? Make us happy! We deserve this!

^ I sometimes feel like I have an unpopular opinion on the end to the Solasmance lol.. I'm not gunning for needless angst/drama nor for a fairytale fanservice happy ending - my only wish is that it's well written (which I'm sure it will be) and stays true to Solas as a character. Whatever the conclusion to the arc is, I just hope it isn't a betrayal of his character for the sake of fanservice.

That is true; you make a good point. Though I think what gets me personally is that when they do talk about that stuff, Solas seems to respond in a needlessly judgmental way when Dorian's simply trying to connect, albeit somewhat ignorantly. I can understand why the way Dorian approaches these things would make Solas feel a bit snappy, but I can't help but feel for Dorian. You'd think being afforded thousands of years to work on one's personality faults would allow for a bit more self control, but evidently not. Out of curiosity, can anyone remember if Solas ever simply asks Dorian not to discuss those things with him?

And I'm totally with you, their mage specific banter is great; I wish there was more of it. And doesn't Sera say something along the lines of "Just cuz' there's two of you doesn't make this normal!" if they talk shop when she's in the party? Ha. Poor mage-spooked Sera.

I love that this game gives us such rich characters. Nuanced, flawed and complex. They're fantastic.

That's true, the two of them are adorably nerdy when they talk shop.  I just get weirdly overprotective of Dorian  The characters that I furiously defend are almost always my BFFs instead of my LIs; it was Miranda Lawson in Mass Effect 2/3, and now Dorian.

LOL, now I'm picturing Patrick Weekes with little fandom voodoo dolls that scream whenever he writes a depressing sentence.  My mind goes weird places when sleep-deprived.

He did say that he wrote the Solas romance to show how sad the character is, and it made him cry too.  So at least he can be miserable with all of us  :P

I feel the exact same way! As long as Solas gets a satisfying (and hopefully somewhat happy) character arc, I'll be just fine. Even if he and Lavellan are never a real item again. Solas >>> the Solas romance.

Yeah, Solas definitely isn't nice during those conversations but Solas isn't always such a nice guy. He can be painfully blunt a lot. I don't think it's so much that he can't control himself, but that he just doesn't want to! I doubt he cares too much about hurting Dorian's feelings during those particular conversations.  I think most of it comes down to the fact that he doesn't really respect Dorian.  Not the way he respects other companions. Which sucks if you're a huge Dorian fan and a Solas fan and you have to reconcile the two. I kind of like their relationship, though. The way they switch between snippy and somewhat friendly. And I kind of like that Solas calls Dorian out on something that, if I remember correctly, Dorian admits himself at the end of the game:  that for all he says he wants to make change in Tevinter, he hasn't really done anything yet to do that.

I just wish they had more banter. The two of them are so friggin smart, there's probably a few things they could have had long conversations about that they just didn't touch on.

Interesting. I wonder why I never saw it before.

You haven't seen my numerous posts that are basically 'A Dozen Ways to Write 'I Can't EVEN'', then. :P

Madrar has some theory about them being Mythal's servants, I think. My money's on either kossith, servants of the Creators, or kossith servants of the Creators. Some of their wording sounds similar to the Qun, which could be a cultural thing of their place. What's interesting is that they serve 'greater powers.' That are implied to still be across the sea.

EDIT: Greater powers I guess could be a nation-state or larger cult like Mythal's Sentinels, with the Executors acting as the spy-network in Thedas? They seem to regard spywork in a professional way, and give their respect for Lels. Hmm.

I think you've pretty much hit the nail on the head with why Solas' response to Dorian irks me, and are probably right about it not being an issue of self control. Solas behaves rather superior to Dorian, and because of how endearing I find Dorian's attitudes and behaviour, it gets under my skin. Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying I wish Solas' character was different, or even that those banters were different; I adore the characters--especially Solas--and love the banters. But aspects of Solas make me want to grab him by his haughty shoulders and shake him silly. And hats off to the writers for that!

Hahah Caddius, no offense, but I hardly ever read your walls of text.

I should, because I actually did study history when I was an undergrad. But that was like...ten years ago, and you guys do a fine job being historians without me. I trust you've got this.

Also, I'm lazy.

A lot of characters don't have particularly nice interactions with Dorian, but I think what raises people's hackles about the Dorian/Solas relationship is the fact that Dorian clearly has so much respect for Solas and wants to connect with him and Solas is just not interested and shuts him down in no gentle way. Seeing those kinds of interactions is always cringe-worthy and of course it makes you feel bad for the one who was rejected. Solas really has no obligation to be Dorian's friend but hell if you don't want him to lower the snark barriers a little and just let the poor guy in! Especially since Dorian was written as such a likable guy in many ways.

I get the impression though that, given enough time, Solas would eventually start to like Dorian. Maybe a little grudgingly, though.

And I might ship it. *jumps out of a freaking window* Why do I have to be one of those fans?
