A lot of characters don't have particularly nice interactions with Dorian, but I think what raises people's hackles about the Dorian/Solas relationship is the fact that Dorian clearly has so much respect for Solas and wants to connect with him and Solas is just not interested and shuts him down in no gentle way. Seeing those kinds of interactions is always cringe-worthy and of course it makes you feel bad for the one who was rejected. Solas really has no obligation to be Dorian's friend but hell if you don't want him to lower the snark barriers a little and just let the poor guy in! Especially since Dorian was written as such a likable guy in many ways.
I get the impression though that, given enough time, Solas would eventually start to like Dorian. Maybe a little grudgingly, though.
And I might ship it. *jumps out of a freaking window* Why do I have to be one of those fans?
Hahah! Well, be free, little bird: go forth and build a magnificent ship for whichever gloriously handsome boys you wish, with the internet's unquestioning blessing.
And yup, you've said it better than I could. It's painful to see Dorian approach Solas like a hopeful, subordinate puppy, licking tentatively at his handsome chops, only to be alpha-rolled off a cliff by Solas seconds later.
Also, I would like your post, if it were not for the spawn-of-satan-itself like limit.

Sell it on eBay. This is a thousand times better than Jesus toast.
I love all the Solasmancers and all the Solas fans. I know it's off topic, but I feel the need to say this. I LOVE YOU ALL! !!!!!!!!!!! I soooo love this thread, and the Solas fans!!
All? OOooh, tell me aspects of what you like about thread~ ![]()

I saw Solas in a video game.
Crazy, right?
Apparently people haven't heard of the sort of indie Celtic pseudo rock band Solas? I used to be really into them when I was thirteen. It still pops up as the top results in google images for me haha.

This is sick. Some celebrities can't get any privacy. Poor guy.
Edit: This is a bad joke, lest you all think me truly insane anymorethanyoumightalready.
Maybe she's allergic to glitter. I also miss Oxidants. This thread could use some good chemistry puns.
Nah, she's just been ill. That predates glitter era.

I have to disagree with the emboldened text. I don't deny that Solas can be harsh towards Dorian, but it's not entirely undeserved or one-sided. Dorian does have a tendancy to pick on Solas's attire (I can think of 3 banters where he does). Also, as we know Solas does have respect for people who'll argue their point even if he doesn't neccasserily agree (Inquisitor, IB, Varric), whereas Dorian doesn't. The only opportunity we get to see some discussion (spirits as servants), Dorian drops the subject and doesn't pick it up.
Don't get me wrong, Dorian is on my top-3 list of favourite characters, I love the guy and I do think Solas is a bit of an ass to him, but I don't think his interactions with Solas are entirely as people seem to be painting it.
If this comes out as incoherent I apologize, it's 1 in the morning in the UK and I'm tired. xD
That last picture is heartbreaking, but I can't help but wonder how clean that shirt is.

Wow, the wardrobe teasing had completely slipped my mind. I seem to suffer some blind spots when it comes to characters I have real affection for. Put beloved character A and beloved character B in a room together and my brain is apt to lie to me, or simply break.
Thanks for chiming in; their relationship feels a bit more balanced in my head now. Snark on both sides. Dorian for something rather superficial; Solas for something rather moral. Less frustrated with Solas suddenly. They are so human and lovely and stupid and lovely.
No, I meant actual glitter. I talked to her and she had a run-in with Ru Paul. I think she got it in her eye. I think she'll be okay. I sent flowers last week.

And Dorian is three times as lovely as the rest. ![]()
The banter is fresh in my mind still because I'm hopelessly obsessed send help! of my Cullenmance playthrough, and Dorian actually comes across as rather petty in it. My Cullenmancer is a Warrior so I can finally have my dreamteam setup of Solas/Dorian/Cole, The first banter I get is Corypheus's orb, then the Tevinter-technique-nope-Elven one, and then the spirits as slaves pair, and now Dorian's been needling at Solas about his appearance in between Solas and Cole's conversations.
So far I haven't had the "For what it's worth, I'm sorry" banter yet, or either of them talking shop. It's made for quite an interesting PT. ![]()

By the way... if any of you PC users want to download a mod to give your Inquisitors some awesomely adorable Skyhold jammies... ![]()
Just in case anyone's interested, you could get the mod here. ![]()

Ha.
You're right, it does sound like a perfect team. If I didn't have to carry a warrior (though Cass
always welcome) I'd definitely have that team as well.
I love Dorian and Cole's banters. They are the best imho
"Do you conjure your clothes? Is that why they look like THAT?"

I still kept that banter in mind, but Dorian's "picking on" really isn't on the same level of harsh as some of Solas' lines towards him and never seems all that serious. Those times when he tries to talk with Solas on a real level, Dorian really does seem serious. Granted, those "picking on" conversations are why I was never that surprised that Solas wasn't that fond of Dorian and their banter with each other never bothered me that much.
Fun fact: the first time I got a "Dorian insults Solas' clothes" banter, it actually came directly after one of Solas' more harsh banters with him. So it sounded like Dorian was super butthurt and lashing out immaturely and it was great. ![]()

That's my feeling. There's a lot of snark - not just Dorian/Solas - and Solas gives as good as he gets in that regard. So I didn't ever feel the need to jump to his defense. Dorian's comment is petty but he is much more rude to Blackwall. I don't know if it was VA that it came off as harsh, but I cringe every time I hear Solas' "rudeness"...mostly because Solas is usually really polite or appropriately rude when people are being insulting.

Hahah, that's perfect. I love it when serendipitous things like that happen. I think I had a crazy string of three good ones with Solas/Sera in the Exhalted Plains, where Sera was griping about the woods and outdoorsy stuff in one form or another, then I got to Ghilan'nain's grove and Solas made a comment about it being quiet and how he liked it there... Then moments later Sera freaked out about something brushing up against her in the water and Solas chortled.
That laugh gets me good.
One of my favorite things about Solas is that when he cuts someone verbally, he cuts deep, man. That final conversation between him and Iron Bull if you choose to let the Chargers die is just.....ouch. Solas don't pull those punches when he's not happy. He's one of those people who could probably ruin your day with one quick sentence if he was so inclined!
