The way I look at it, this is just the wind-up, and when (if) the official confirmation comes, the explosion will be magnificent. Personally, I temper my expectations because I naturally think about the worst case scenario. In this case, Solas isn't an LI, and how terrible I'd feel if I fully gave in to the urge to believe he's now an LI. Maybe GDL didn't know how to let us down gently? Probably shouldn't have answered the tweets in that case, but it was a Q&A and maybe he felt compelled to reach out and say something. One of them was a yes or no question. 
 
That's generally enough to make me pull back the excitement and and just... keep it tamped down. It's self-preservation, really. But when (if) we get official Dev confirmation, you best believe I will be freaking out. Shaking and crying and generally being useless for the rest of the day. 
 
But enough of that! Let the cautious excitement flow!

This is going to be interesting to read if Solas is a matter of fact not an LI. (Then I will cry). Do you guys think it will be bi or hetero? Hoping for bi, so there will be no limits. So I can see weather or not I prefer to play female or male to romance him.  (I always prefer playing male in DA, and female in ME. But some characters I "change gender" becuase it suits better with a straigh/gay romance)

 

I do think of him as that kind of guy who does not care about physical apperance, but the person as a whole. Hence the gender does not matter to him.

Ok. They said GDL isn't a gamer but someone asked him if he played DA and what class he would be and he said mage. Are they saying he is lying? *grabs pitchfork*

 

Anyway, I was wondering if they were going to do a video on the voices of the Inquisition like they did with the Mass Effect games...or maybe, just a few more videos. Bioware seems to like using a few screen actors for their voices which tends to generate public interest so it could be an idea, yesss? I would love to watch GDL at work in the booth.

Personally, I feel like, if he was trying to let us down easy he wouldn't have answered is Solas a love interest with You won't be disappointed. I think, if it wasn't so, he'd have declined to answer directly "you'll have to wait and see" or said something to the effect of, "he's an amazing character no matter what" or somesuchlike.

 

The fact that he answered the first time with "you won't be disappointed" and then an hour later with "I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say," when ilikesocks asked again...that makes me feel strongly that it was a confirmation and that he got in trouble for his answer.

I'm so glad that everyone who has been to the thread has been kind, I popped on tumblr last night to read DG's new posts and made the mistake of looking at my feed...Actually unfollowed someone over the Solas hate they spewed. *smh* Why can't everyone be as gracious as you lovely folk? *sighs*

REALLY? I don't follow ME like DA, the ME forums were always more caustic and I'm not as into that franchise, so I'd never heard about this before. (I heard about Joker having a non player character romance, but not about the Seth Green tweet.) Of course, Seth is very not a gamer, yes? I think I recall that from an interview I saw once. That people always expect him to be because he's "geek" but he totally doesn't game at all.

 

Not that I think GDL sounds like a big gamer, but he seems to have more of an understanding to things. *shrugs* That is a scary thought, though. If he recorded lines and didn't realise they were not with an Inquisitor but with an npc. Yet, as I think about it, then he would not be recording a variety of lines. That is, a npc-npc interaction is a simple scripted scene, versus, an interaction with the player character where he might have recorded two or three answers that are somewhat similar in response to something. Not to mention, variations using the surnames. Variations for "you're a beautiful woman/handsome man" sorts of things. Really, I just...don't see getting that mixed up...

I remember I was soooo excited when I learned Cullen was going to be in the game and a romance. When I joined the forums the Cullen thread was the first I posted in. But I soon lost interest in the thread because, reasons, and it moved way too fast for me to keep up. Meanwhile our little hedge mage intrigued me more and more, and then his interview came out and that was it! Still plan on romancing Cullen, but he's been relegated to 2nd playthrough/backup 1st playthrough - though I might even nomance it if Solas isn't an LI where my character loves him from afar...

Also, this whole 'GDL might not have understood the question thing? Um, really? Granted, I'm holding back on the wild celebration until he's officially confirmed, just in case, but that theory just stinks of denial - along with being mildly insulting toward the VA. I mean, I can sympathize with their disappointment, but that's going a bit too far. Way to p!ss on our parade, guys.

The whole GDL thing, he doesnt even have to be a gamer, really. It's common sense if you walk into a booth and the devs tell you that your character is a romance so you'll have to record extra and different lines. Whoever started that is insulting him more than anything.

I try to be cynical but I REALLY doubt he'd purposely wind his own fans up, unless he'd like to lose fans which...no actor does. If Solas wasn't an LI, he could have easily ignored the two tweets. But he didn't. That's why I'm so positive.

Damn this like limit to the ninth ring! And I love how characters do that! You create one and initially have your own ideas about where they are going and such like and then, they start to become their own person and where they want to go on their own becomes so clear, it can be very like that. "Hey, hey B****, whachuu mean I'm goin to romance so-and-so? You know damn well I'm not down for that! *points* I want them!" XD lol

 

It's part of what is so fun in BioWare games for me. When I'm writing I craft these characters and I'm trying to lead them along certain plot points I need them to hit, so, it's my job to orchestrate situations where they will react naturally to bring themselves along the path I want. Gaming is relaxing because I get to create a character and then just sit back and move her through someone else's story. Occasionally I need to headcanon why she would make a certain choice because the choice I think she'd naturally have made wasn't an option, but it's like collaborative storytelling and it leaves me with the easiest and funnest part of making mah baby and only being concerned with that portion. It's relaxing, still keeps my creative juices flowing, and unadulturated FUN. Chi!

This me a to a T. I still really like Cullen, and I might still have my first run with him as my LI, if only so that I can freely swap the party around without wondering if I should bring my LI everywhere with me.  Probably not, because my first runs tend to become the bare bones of my canon runs, but, yeah. He's a cool dude. But Solas is more my actual type. The brainy nerds who go hang out in the library, with intelligent quips that make you laugh hours after you heard them. He's just what I wanted in an LI. 

 

As for GDL not understanding the questions--yeah, that's BS.  Unless the Inquisitor walks in on him and someone else, there's really no way to misinterpret what your character is doing. Especially not after we had that Bioware panel where they said the set-up for the Romantic Scenes is different when the VA records the lines. The cinematogropher is there, the writers are there, there are a lot of people involved in these scenes. GDL would know. 

 

All I'm saying is that, we should be excited. I'm super-hopeful and very confident that Solas is an LI--I am. But I cannot say I am 100% sure. Honestly, I wouldn't even say 80% sure. 75% sure sounds... close. I just can't say it. I need that Dev confirmation before I can start lighting fireworks, because I've been burned before and it sucks so much. So don't take what I'm saying as some sort of scolding or my trying to convince you guys that GDL was purposefully misleading us--I don't think that. I'm just cynically wired--brace for the worst, hope for the best.

I think what Allan is liking here is the comparison between the two situations. We have a Voice Actor hinting that their character has a romance plot within the game. We, the fans, shouldn't take it as gospel because we don't have all the information.

 

Or he's just liking it because he does that.
