The banter is fresh in my mind still because I'm hopelessly obsessed send help! of my Cullenmance playthrough, and Dorian actually comes across as rather petty in it. My Cullenmancer is a Warrior so I can finally have my dreamteam setup of Solas/Dorian/Cole

 

I'm never going to have this dreamteam and still keep a balanced party comp.  My warrior is my Assquisitor who pisses off Solas, might kick Dorian out, and refuses to let Cole join.  Think young Tywin Lannister with massive chip on his shoulder instead of his nice sane wife.

That's my feeling. There's a lot of snark - not just Dorian/Solas - and Solas gives as good as he gets in that regard. So I didn't ever feel the need to jump to his defense.  Dorian's comment is petty but he is much more rude to Blackwall.  

 

But I just laugh when people are rude to Blackwall because I'm kind of a bad person

One of my favorite things about Solas is that when he cuts someone verbally, he cuts deep, man.  That final conversation between him and Iron Bull if you choose to let the Chargers die is just.....ouch. Solas don't pull those punches when he's not happy. He's one of those people who could probably ruin your day with one quick sentence if he was so inclined!

 

Good thing for us that he's not mean spirited, eh? He doesn't "kick puppies", as Weekes put it. He'd reduce the entire Inquisition to fits of withdrawn insecurity and/or tears.

YOU ARE.  I just think blackwall is so boring...but i feel kind of bad for him. we're buddies. i mean he creeps my lavellan/trevelyan out a bit because he comes on SUPER strong, but it's ok. we're cool.

And that's why he's the Dread Wolf. He preyed on the insecurities of the other Creators whenever they were being too cruel to their underlings.

It's like he's Patrician Havelock Vetinari from Discworld. Everyone feared his predecessors for things like arbitrary execution or revocation of titles, or making you dress up in a ridiculous hat. But people shudder at the thought that Vetinari might get sardonic with them. Sometimes, he breaks out the sass, and there are no survivors.

The sadpuppy Lavellan responses added to the heartache already, but the angry route is just as heartwrenching. Damn. I...I am not ready for this yet. On a somewhat more lighthearted note, I was randomly wondering today what sorts of nicknames Varric might come up with for the elven pantheon.

It is. It twists my heartstrings. All of his and Lavellan's responses in that scene do. The hearts. The poor hearts of Solasmancers. And I'm glad it does. I'm not sure hauling around this extreme dose of feels for an extended period is particularly good for one's health.

This angry scenario where she leaves him looking like a sad puppy is what my plan is for my second (current) Lavellan. This way I get both dialogues in different playthroughs and both feel 'right' in different ways. Though the sincere I love you response is my canon.

The thought of "Don't let me detain you" in Solas' voice is an amazing thing.  Cass would have to be Sam Vimes though.
