Earlier today I was going to do another crossover fanart of Solas as Lord Vetinari... Darn it... Sir Terry showed me that books could be fun, that writing was fun. It was heartwarming to read his last tweets, to know he died with his family and that everything seemed to go as well as it could under the circumstances they had...

 

Sorry for the off-topic, he was my favorite author and role-model in many ways...

I can't believe that this is what I'm delurking for, but I love that you're crossing over Solas and Lord Vetinari.

 

This quote from Monstrous Regiment made me think of why I think Solas and Cassandra get along and he and Vivienne do not:  The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they’ve found it.

I heard someone on the news talking about seeking solace, and they pronounce it differently than Solas.   Is Solas and solace being exact homophones rare, or am I normal and the news person is crazy?

 

Interesting! I say the two differently, for the record, and assumed others did too. For purposes of science, I would be interested in hearing how other people say the two, as well. Personally hailing from the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada, here. Though I may have some Britishisms to my accent hanging on from years abroad, coupled with my Scottish husband's ongoing influence.

 

Solas, where the first syllable rhymes with SEW, as in sewing.

Solace, where the first syllable rhymes with FALL, as in falling.

 

The second syllable of each I pronounce pretty much the same. Like a clipped "lass". Or almost "less". I have no idea how to technically explain pronunciation as they do in dictionaries, so hopefully this makes sense.
