I'm totally kidding guys! Kind of. ;)

My exact reaction to seeing his name there!   Of course, I expect that was his intention. While I agree that it isn't time for the official celebratory dance party yet (DragonRacer's was an excellent warm-up, though!), I'm still feeling pretty comfortable. They didn't come right out an confirm Greg Ellis after he kinda sorta spilled the beans either. I think we're good.

Except for the fact that I still appear to be out of likes. That's not good AT ALL.  :P

I'm sure Allan is trying to get the thread to keep a zen and not lose its collective mind. Whether or not you read into it something about Solas's LI status depends on one's own level of cynicism, I guess. It's always good to keep a little bit of doubt with you like a parrot on your shoulder in these cases, just so you don't end up crushed and disappointed!

Also, I've realized that GDL's quote about Solas being passionate and not bragging about how much of a badass he is excited me nearly as much as the LI tease. I suck up any information about the companions like a sponge because that's really my favorite part of the Dragon Age games. Romance is just the cherry on top  :D So I can't be TOO upset even if Solas turns out to be unavailable for romance. He's still, to quote GDL, nails.

Exactly! Even if Solas isn't an LI, there's going to be at least one playthrough where I take him with me everywhere. Just like Mordin in Mass Effect 2, he can babble science and lore at me while I pine.

Can we have a playwright put on a wildly inaccurate play about the Inquisition's exploits?

-Iron Bull having Sten's personality.

-Blackwall as a grim, angsty Warden.

-Cassandra perpetually in table-stabbing angry mode.

-Vivienne as a snobby, power-hungry mage who wants the throne of Orlais.

-Dorian as a stereotypical Tevinter Magister.

- The writer had no clue what a hedge mage is, so Solas has the power to control shrubbery.

- Sera is cast a lot younger than she actually is and is essentially the Inquisition's kid sidekick/mascot.

- Varric is more interested in hanging around in taverns and writing crappy novels than helping the rest of the team.

- Someone misunderstood what Cole's power is so he's just really absent minded.

I don't think Gareth is comparable to Greg tweetwise, though.

Greg's answers were very clear and didn't leave room for interpretation whereas Gareth's were a little more like 'read into it what you will.' I don't see him getting into trouble for that.

This is us getting excited over a hint. Imagine when/if it is confirmed. We're gonna blow the roof of this motha'! There will be exclamation points as far as the eye can see. Gifs will come crashing in like waves. Sweet baby Andraste, it will be glorious.

I have to get out of this thread. I'm gonna run out of likes (btw, I would like every post if I could. You guys are all great)

I agree, though I'm critical of Gareth being less ambiguous than he should have been (considering how far he went).

So how many in here were going to romance Cullen (or anyone) as a first choice, then ended up switching sides for Solas as a first playthrough instead? *raises hand*  Cullen can wait

While Cullen wasn't my first choice, I'm going to use this as a launching point to declare myself officially on the "Solas is #1 Choice" boat now. Which, as most might recall, Solas was considered my "back-up" if Varric doesn't pan out.

So, officially switching preferences. It doesn't mean I love Varric any less or that I'd desire him as a LI any less, but Solas is just intriguing the heck outta me and the more GDL gives little hints into his personality, the more I *really* like what I'm hearing.

I've also been leaning more heavily towards my first playthrough being a human female warrior rather than a female dwarf rogue (one of the subsequent playthroughs I'll do). Thinking my party will largely stay Varric, Solas, and Cole. Switching out Cole as needed for whoever makes sense depending on quest and if they sound like they'd be needed for it (such as Iron Bull for Qun/Qunari-related business or Dorian for the Tevinter business). I like to think I'd equally switch party members around and it's something I really wish I could do because everyone sounds really awesome (other than Vivienne still sorta scares me)... but I just can't. Not my playstyle. The past two games I always end up with a mostly-fixed party with whoever I'm obsessing with at the moment, and then other playthroughs I'll fixate on those who were ignored/neglected previously.

Yeah, that gave me pause for a moment, and I'll admit shaking my fist at the sky and yelling, "ALLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!" for a moment.

But as others have said, he probably "liked" that for the sake of us not losing our heads over things hinted but not confirmed. Which is good advice in general.

And yes, I say this even though I threw a dance party last night. But dammit, sometimes you just need a good little dance party. Period. :P

This pretty much describes where I'm at mentally as well. I'm totally gushing at GDL's tweet possibly being a big, giant, winky face. But if it turns out to be misinterpreted and Solas isn't a LI, it won't be sad panda gifs for me. I mean, seriously. I went through DA2 pining for Varric, so this isn't my first rodeo in regards to unrequited NPC love. I'm just even MORE excited about Solas now because his VA thinks he's "nails" and "badass" and in a quiet sort of way. I LOVE that. Love it. Solas will be attached to my hip first playthrough like Varric was in DA2, and if all we can be is Total Awesome Bros, I am okay with that.

But if I can also bang that, well, that's just icing on a really delicious cupcake anyway! :D

Same. Mordin was a permanent squiddie for me in ME2, I couldn't leave the poor Salarian on the ship. My first playthrough is going to be a male elf with Cass as his LI but Solas will most likely be my go-to mage.

Solas has always been my first LI choice, with Cass as the second.  Both of them are going on my main team along with Cole no matter who is available as a LI.  I'm also playing a male elf mage no matter who is available, because that's what I want to play.  Solas not being a LI wouldn't change anything in how I approach my first playthrough except for the lack of that romance and the addition of Cass' romance.

However, I believe Solas is a LI.  I know he isn't officially confirmed, and if I'm wrong I'll be fine.  All the waiting was getting much worse than eventual disappointment would be.  I'd rather be happy and optimistic in the meantime.  :)

I don't see the tweets from Gareth David-Lloyd and the ones from Greg Ellis as the same. Gareth seemed to know what he was talking about, imo. He said he planned to play the game with a mage, where as Ellis needed the Cullenites to coax him into playing at all. He knew who Cullen was, it seemed, which makes it seem he's more aware of the other characters and the workings of the game. In one of his replies about being a love interest he said he didn't know how much he could say, which really implies to me that he knew what sort of question he was being asked. When Ellis gave his answer, it was very shortly after that he admitted he didn't actually understand the question. Gareth never seemed confused by what he was answering. Even Ellis got the "romance" part of the question right, though. Romance and love interest are questions that are hard to mistake. The fact is, though, we don't know how familiar Gareth David-Lloyd is with the Dragon Age games. How do we know he isn't a fan of the games or that he didn't give them a play after he got the part? He could have easily played them before, there's actually no reason to assume he's clueless about them, especially since he said he plans to play this one. To me, he didn't seem confused about what he was answering. It seemed like he was confident in his answers to me.

Wait, where is the forbidden pairing? Cole/Sera or Solas/Vivienne? Iron Bull/Varric would probably cause some hilarious reactions also.

He also knows someone who did a major voice in DA2. I imagine he would have talked to her before or after he was asked to voice act in DAI and she would have filled him in. And she was a romance option on top of that. Maybe she gave him pointers  ;)

As for the first choice romance question, I was really hoping for Dorian to be available for m/m romance early on. His appearance appealed to me the most and I do think he's a really interesting character. Solas was more of a slow burn, for me. His appearance was a little shocking to me, at first. His personality as presented in the writer interview and dev tweets won me over, though, and his appearance has really grown on me. Everything I've heard about Solas just seems amazing. Now I'm pretty equally interested in Solas and Dorian.  :P

I'm honestly pretty interested in a Dorian romance as well! Got a Male Quizzy already in mind for him, and one for Cassandra. :)

It's actually kind of cool because it just goes to show/back up the statistics that BioWare has that it's not just the LGBT community that enjoys the LGBT content. And honestly, BioWare helped my own personal growth in that regard as well.

I'm a heterosexual female and while I dearly adore the few gay and lesbian friends I've made, I don't think I really had an *appreciation* for their content - or the extreme lack thereof outside of BioWare games - until I started playing around with RPing non-heterosexual characters. Which I never really thought about doing until DA2, honestly. I feel bad about it now in hindsight, but I just never thought about trying it... or trying a POC protagonist either. I've been tragically too narrow-minded in either RPing a version of myself (heterosexual white woman) or RPing a male version of myself (heterosexual and white, again) in both DA and ME.

But DA2 sort of brought out a different mindset in me... not really sure why or what specifically caused a change. But one of my absolute FAVORITE Hawkes is a male rogue archer who romanced Anders. Never thought, years ago, I'd see myself saying that, but there it is. Personal growth as a conscious individual, aided by a BioWare game.

From that experience, I'm branching out my playthroughs now. Really looking forward to experiencing Dorian's romance arc... and finally being proactive and stepping out of my "white" mindset, too, because I've got a really badass idea for a female POC that I wanna roll out at some point, too, maybe even have her romance Sera. :D

Regarding the Cullen question (I think it was Kyrie who asked....?? ): he was never really an option for my female PC's. Originally it was Dorian and Solas who caught my attention (especially the war room concept art, that had both of them in it). Since I like to play male PC's as well, Dorian will still get some action. I had also hoped for Cass being bi, but am relegated to making a male for her as well. Even though I like playing both female and male, I am female and enjoy being able to play as such.

I find it fascinating, that if there is an LI I get attached to, I am more apt to create a PC for a character I wouldn't normally romance (either for rp reasons, or personal taste/prefences). Maybe I am weird like that, but it makes it easier (for me) to do these other romances, when I know I can always go back to a favorite. Whereas, I am left more indifferent, and sometimes not even interested in trying, when I don't have options that seems to work for me.
