So how many in here were going to romance Cullen (or anyone) as a first choice, then ended up switching sides for Solas as a first playthrough instead? *raises hand*
Cullen can wait
While Cullen wasn't my first choice, I'm going to use this as a launching point to declare myself officially on the "Solas is #1 Choice" boat now. Which, as most might recall, Solas was considered my "back-up" if Varric doesn't pan out.
So, officially switching preferences. It doesn't mean I love Varric any less or that I'd desire him as a LI any less, but Solas is just intriguing the heck outta me and the more GDL gives little hints into his personality, the more I *really* like what I'm hearing.
I've also been leaning more heavily towards my first playthrough being a human female warrior rather than a female dwarf rogue (one of the subsequent playthroughs I'll do). Thinking my party will largely stay Varric, Solas, and Cole. Switching out Cole as needed for whoever makes sense depending on quest and if they sound like they'd be needed for it (such as Iron Bull for Qun/Qunari-related business or Dorian for the Tevinter business). I like to think I'd equally switch party members around and it's something I really wish I could do because everyone sounds really awesome (other than Vivienne still sorta scares me)... but I just can't. Not my playstyle. The past two games I always end up with a mostly-fixed party with whoever I'm obsessing with at the moment, and then other playthroughs I'll fixate on those who were ignored/neglected previously.

I'm totally kidding guys! Kind of.
Yeah, that gave me pause for a moment, and I'll admit shaking my fist at the sky and yelling, "ALLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!" for a moment.
But as others have said, he probably "liked" that for the sake of us not losing our heads over things hinted but not confirmed. Which is good advice in general.
And yes, I say this even though I threw a dance party last night. But dammit, sometimes you just need a good little dance party. Period.
I'm sure Allan is trying to get the thread to keep a zen and not lose its collective mind. Whether or not you read into it something about Solas's LI status depends on one's own level of cynicism, I guess. It's always good to keep a little bit of doubt with you like a parrot on your shoulder in these cases, just so you don't end up crushed and disappointed!
Also, I've realized that GDL's quote about Solas being passionate and not bragging about how much of a badass he is excited me nearly as much as the LI tease. I suck up any information about the companions like a sponge because that's really my favorite part of the Dragon Age games. Romance is just the cherry on top
So I can't be TOO upset even if Solas turns out to be unavailable for romance. He's still, to quote GDL, nails.
This pretty much describes where I'm at mentally as well. I'm totally gushing at GDL's tweet possibly being a big, giant, winky face. But if it turns out to be misinterpreted and Solas isn't a LI, it won't be sad panda gifs for me. I mean, seriously. I went through DA2 pining for Varric, so this isn't my first rodeo in regards to unrequited NPC love. I'm just even MORE excited about Solas now because his VA thinks he's "nails" and "badass" and in a quiet sort of way. I LOVE that. Love it. Solas will be attached to my hip first playthrough like Varric was in DA2, and if all we can be is Total Awesome Bros, I am okay with that.
But if I can also bang that, well, that's just icing on a really delicious cupcake anyway!
