Solas would definitely identify with Tyrion...

 

Personally, Solas reminds me more of Dany.  Good intentions, worst life choices.  But I think he'd prefer to see himself as Tyrion, or maybe Varys.

But guns are heavy! Ok, the only recollection of ever holding a pistol was when I was ten years old. My uncle showed me his gun from army service he was allowed to keep (he claimed anyway). I couldn't hold the thing upright with both hands, lol.
But knives I can do, even though I hate them. I'd prefer a baseball bat but I'd probably not hit hard enough with it... I'm the kind of person who asks others to open water bottles for them.

When I watch a show I'm transfixed. And then get so caught up focusing on one thing like somebody's face or the music or how stuff is filmed that I fail to follow what people are actually saying. Particularly bad when watching Sherlock.

I watch very few shows though. I follow maybe 1-3 shows at any given time. I like very few shows. I don't watch regular TV at all anymore. I stream everything online.

I listen to music when I do stuff. But when I want to really enjoy music, I can't do anything else. I need to melt with the music and listen to every note intently. I suck at multitasking...

 

About Hannibal: I once watched the first minute of Hannibal. Visually gorgeous but I have blood phobia. Not that bad when it's on screen. But I don't like gore/splatter at all. Sick and twisted I can take depending on the subject. I might try a whole episode one of these days though.

 

On topic: what kind of TV shows would Solas enjoy? Probably something like Game of Thrones. Unless that reminded him too much of Arlathan and the childish power plays of the elven gods. I can totally picture him sitting in front of the screen ranting about how it's the same **** everywhere and how everybody disgusts him. *g*

I think he might identify with Littlefinger and Varys more. Tyrion isn't a schemer, he's not about the long game, though he's clever enough to survive when pushed to it. I think he's a good man who would rather be a middle-class burgher with a family, but is forced to be a Lannister and a dwarf in a prejudiced society, unable to enjoy simple happiness.

Well I don't know. He spent quite some time in the Fade watching spirits reenact their own versions of History. That's kinda like watching TV on Oculus Rift.

I don't know... See I also see Fen'Harel as a reluctant schemer... I mean Varys is in it for power (or perhaps to do the right thing, but that isn't at all clear) and so is LF (no doubt there), but Solas. I don't see it... I think, like Tyrion, he is geared towards survival with a dash of justice but not personally ambitious, I think Solas too would just like to live a quiet life at the end of the day but circumstances have never allowed that to happen.

 

Why do I think that? Well he has intellectual arrogance but not personal arrogance, he doesn't care about riches or fine clothes, or ruling over others, but his kink is wisdom as its own reward, he actually listens to the other characters and learns from them. These are not the traits of an inveterate schemer...

 

Solas definitely would have loved to mentor Danny...

I definitely think Solas would appreciate True Detective. Great show, and I can definitely see some comparison between Solas and Rust Cohle. 

 

Edit: Ooh, missed DLC chatter. Sounds very exciting. I'd bet on the popular speculation that we'll deal with Solas, but the after effects of whatever he sets into motion will be for another protagonist or a second game to handle.

The Dread Wolf title apparently originates back before the Dalish promoted him to official scapegoat. Unless Flemeth was being sarcastic about it. I am guessing Solas definitely had some darker shades back in the day, and ambition would be one of them. If you are smart and powerful, it is difficult not to make use of those talents. 

 

I personally think he was probably an outright villain. Someone who just did not care about anything, so he enjoyed making problems and just being a nuisance of himself. Then something happened in Arlathan that sort of snapped him out of it- probably the fact that he realized he was the only sane one left. It was fun for him to be the bad guy. Not so fun to find out that the people who were supposed to be good [IE; the Pantheon] actually managed to do things even you'd never do.

I have never encountered an indifferent villain. A villain usually cares. Just his ideas differ from those of a hero. But a villain usually wouldn't to go lengths making up complex plans if he didn't care.

I think, if Solas was "a villain" then we will surely have had a goal. Otherwise he would just be a mean jester.
