There was an old elf with no hair,

whose charm never failed to ensnare.

He gave bad guys his ball,

and said don't hate me doll,

I only did it on a dare.

Fun fact, the 5 x 7 x 5 is not the only format for haiku writing. That format is most commonly used with nature subjects, but it is not rigidly followed for other subjects or types of haiku writing.

Yeah, I'm aware. But aren't the English variants either to follow the traditional Japanese format of 5x7x5, or, if adjusting the total number of syllables in modern English haiku to accommodate for differences in language to better convey the same sense achieved by Japanese haiku, 3x5x3 or 2x3x2?

 

Is there free form haiku? It has been some time since I took poetry, and as I'm in the business of crafting only the most awful haiku, could easily be mistaken. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
