Heh. See I brought up the mechanic of Leliana being softened or hardened as an example of how players seem to want to have total control over their gameplay only to start a discussion of how specifically people prefer to control Leliana's fate.
I've never purposefully chosen a Divine for any of my playthroughs. I just roleplayed my character and discovered after the fact how my choices have influenced the appointment of the Divine. Whatever will be, will be.

As for companions... I'm gonna spoiler it since I'm gonna ramble/rant a bit...

On-topic: Could you imagine Solas done in the DA2 style elves? Him with big anime eyes? *shudders*
I tried Archer for a bit in DA2 and put it down. It was better done in Origins, but daggers overall feel stronger in both games. If I ever do go back to Origins it'll be as a Warrior, sword and shield, it was fun and I found myself running around as Alistair quite a lot. x)

There is no such thing as a Fenris hater. There are only those who love him too much to admit how much they miss him. Say-no-mean-yes thingy. You know.
Okay good. Cause I was about to bring out my bat. With the nails in it.

If that is your motivation, why not pick Vivienne? She even more wants to stick to the status quo and introduce only slight modifications.
A couple of reasons, first I don't trust Vivienne in the slightest; she's the least explored companion, and her personal quest was short and fell on its face, so I can only see her as someone looking out for her own gain while holding a bubbled view on Mages and refusing to look outside her own experiences. Secondly, the fact she can be made Divine in the first place completely throws me, I still don't know how that decision came into the picture at all.
Without going into a rant, I trust Cassandra more than Vivienne, and Leliana throws too much to the wind. IMO. ![]()

So you do have more reasons than only wanting something close to the status quo for better blending over. ![]()

Oh you liked the Archer class in DAO? xD Okay then, hehe. My Mahariel was a sword and shield warrior too and it was pretty fun shield bashing enemies while trying to protect your squishier companions. xD
It's been a while since I've played DA2 so I don't know if my opinions on the DA2 companions will change. I really should pick it up and play it again but I'm afraid it's only going to elicit a negative reaction from me again. ![]()

And I was wondering when the reactions from Fenris fans on this thread was going to appear.
Apparently it's okay to talk crap about other characters but saying you don't like Fenris is a big no-no.
I get it now...
Yeah I'm the biggest hypocrite when it comes to talking about characters. I run my mouth about Anders all the time, but you start saying **** about my Fenris then **** is going down....

Well, the way I saw it, Archer gave me time to despair over the combat and weep into my keyboard while I waited for everything to come off cooldown. xD I had to give it up to fight Loghain since it was impossible even on the Normal difficulty, and I enjoyed the daggers, but I missed twanging bits of woods at people.
I think people are just joking.
I hope so anyway. x)
Oh, I'd also say DA2 is good to me because of the community! I've been following a few Solas tumblrs (to fill the void! Urgh! *drama*) and one of them in particular seems to have warm fuzzies about DA2s companions, especially Fenris, and I think that rubbed off on me, quite a bit.

But can we not be indifferent to Fenris? Frankly, I never cared that much for the guy...

I think that's on purpose. I actually really adore Viv's character but she's been playing the game her whole life and does not hide the fact that, at the end of the day, SHE is #1. So that's how think when I deal with her, but I do believe - if you're friends with her - she is sincere. She really does like you and does respect you. I do agree though - I trust Cassandra more than Vivienne - but I hate discounting her because her opinion on mages makes me annoyed.

I'm willing to like Vivenne's character, but we don't get so really explore it at all. . It doesn't offer you the chance to see inside her character except at her lover's death, and even then it's so short and cold I can't help but think she's just putting on a show for me, perhaps not necessarily for any malicious reasons. I want to like her. I like how she calls everyone "darling" and "dear", and I love her interactions with Bull, but... meh. Maybe Wicked Hearts would have been a good place to explore it, or taking her to the Fade.
Hell, even her biggest fear "Irrelevance" just makes me [disgusted noise] so hard. T_T
