That particular line sounds like a herculean dodging effort to me. What that connection IS, I have no idea. I've been wracking my brains on it pretty much since I finished the game in November.

Yes, he's not actually denying it, is he? He's just saying there is no evidence for it... Which is not quite the same thing... Oh Solas, ever subtle...

On this subject I've been doing some theorizing:

I see theories floating around that the ancient elven gods (or the ancient elven gods + the forgotten ones) are the old gods or connected etc. They're interesting and enjoyable to read especially the ones that put a lot of effort into matching up who would be who.

From something Solas said to me ingame the other day though I have decided that I don't subscribe to this theory. He said "nothing in the lore connects the old gods with my people" or something to that effect. He could of course be mistaken or skirting the question etc but I've decided to take him at his word on this. if one of the pantheon says they arent connected then well then.

It's funny how so much is open to interpretation!  I'm of the opinion Solas always speaks the truth and that his sins are sins of omission, so when he said that nothing in the lore connects the two different pantheons, given that Dalish lore is incomplete at best and outright wrong at worst, I took it to mean that there is no connection we know of, not that there is no connection at all.  That tricksy Solas...

But who are his people? This is far from clear, what does seem to be apparent is that Fen'Harel is not a founding member of the pantheon... He is not one of them rather an interloper or an addition like Ghilly...

We know he grew up in a village, now a ruin.  Whether he was immortal to begin with, like the ancient elves, or whether immortality was bestowed upon him by the elven "gods" (Possibly through the orb? Each of them had one.), is yet to be seen.

Solas is a lying liar who lies. Even if it's just by omission which is still the same thing.

Also just because he said he grew up in that village doesn't mean he actually did.

Okay so we were talking about the symbol under the Divine when Coryflora was trying to sacrifice her like 2000 pages ago. I can't find the flycam shots of the scene at the moment but a few people pointed out how the symbol was the exact same one that you come across on the floor inside the temple where you do Solas's first quest, activating the first elvhen artifact. A lot of us thought it was the only other place this symbol pops up.

Spoiler

I was going through the Hinterlands replaying my Bunquiz so I could destroy Cullen and romance Solas again when I realized that that symbol is the same one in that camp of mages with phylacteries.

Spoiler

So is this like a symbol of sacrifice? I wonder exactly what it does. Between the Divine, the bones in the temple, and all the blood vials around it in the Hinterlands I'm guessing it's a very powerful symbol of sacrifice. We know the one under Divine was meant to transfer her life force to power up the Orb I think... so I wonder what the others were used for.

I can just see your Inquisitor pointing accusingly at Solas:  "Liar, liar pants on fire! Wandering through the Fallow Mire!"

I think he may well have done, otherwise it was a stupid af lie to tell that he grew up in a village which is now a ruin... what if the Inquisition had their **** together and researched the town only to find it was a ruin, /before/ the end of the game? much more sensible to be like "I'm from City Which Currently Exists".

[snip/whoa]

To miss theory time is pain beyond imagining.

I agree it may be a symbol of sacrifice. I may just have my Pantheon shades on, but what if this was a holdover from Arlathan? Perhaps this was the symbol the gods and their priests used to channel power from sacrifices.

You can also find the symbol in Redcliffe Castle, when going forward in time during "In Hushed Whispers". I believe I took a screenshot of it, but it isn't available on my work PC. If memory serves, it is in the main hallway leading to the complicated-locked door, that Alexius is behind.

Hardly makes a difference though. In a city that still exists you could go about asking people about him. If you don't find any trace at all (we're talking about the work of a spymaster here after all) that is just as obviously a lie.

I will set my tin theory hat back on the shelf and roll around in the gchat until you are here. I want someone to reveal all the secrets of the Executors to me as well.

That's really interesting considering that door only opens with those special red crystals. I'll be replaying that quest soon so I think I'll keep an eye out for it in other places as well. I'm also wondering if it's anywhere in the Templar quest with all the crazy murder things happening at Therinfall.

At least if it does exist it's not immediately going to ring "dude wtf" alarm bells  :P

I may be able to determine this tonight if you don't already find them in advance. One of my stalled characters is at Therinfall or thereabouts.

Re: Where Solas grew up

He said "I grew up in a village to the north" while in Haven.  Then after Haven is destroyed he says "Scout to the north" and TaDa!  Skyhold - aka Tarasyl'an Te'las when the elves were there.  So, Solas grew up at Skyhold?  Am I missing a mack truck sized hole in this idea?

I am wrong about the location. It is in one of the rooms before getting to the outside (when the PC first sees that the Breach is everywhere. Sorry about the bad info. And I don't believe it was associated with the door or any such thing. However, there are dead bodies (I think), and blood (I know), so "sacrifice" is definitely a part of these symbols. Well, strong evidence for such. ;)

That's very interesting. Another thing I just noticed that if you look at the one in Solas's little temple... if you read it with the skull being the top of the symbol than the Triangle is upside down, and of course made out of blood.

However the mark in the Hinterlands looks like it's made with either lyrium or frost magic and it is right side up.  If the orientation of the symbol means anything than it sort of hints at bad things for those Executors across the sea if they're using the upside bloody triangle.

Fen'Harel - wisdom/pride [obvious imo. this is a confirmed corruption]

Mythal - justice/vengeance [obvious imo. confirmed corruption]

Falon'din - purpose/desire [my best guess, see previous post for why. a confirmed corruption]

Andruil - survival/hunger [my best guess. hunting for survival, eventually hungered to hunt more challenging prey in the void, hunger-sacrifice link etc. a confirmed corruption]

note corruptions are not always linear; pride can also be a corruption of faith for example

we need to map the rest

Elgar'nan [something/rage? we don't know what corrupts into rage. maybe valor]

Dirthamen ??

Sylaise ??

June ??

I just think people are...well I'm not going to say delusional about Solas, because YMMV, right, but let's get real.

We don't know anything . All we know is that he cared for us truly, and we don't even know that's true from Solas himself because he dumped us, we only know that because his writer told us so.

But the rest? Speculation.

Found it. It is in the first room in Redcliffe, that has a Rift in it.

Go to timestamp 46:29.
