Okay so we were talking about the symbol under the Divine when Coryflora was trying to sacrifice her like 2000 pages ago. I can't find the flycam shots of the scene at the moment but a few people pointed out how the symbol was the exact same one that you come across on the floor inside the temple where you do Solas's first quest, activating the first elvhen artifact. A lot of us thought it was the only other place this symbol pops up.

Spoiler

I was going through the Hinterlands replaying my Bunquiz so I could destroy Cullen and romance Solas again when I realized that that symbol is the same one in that camp of mages with phylacteries.

Spoiler

So is this like a symbol of sacrifice? I wonder exactly what it does. Between the Divine, the bones in the temple, and all the blood vials around it in the Hinterlands I'm guessing it's a very powerful symbol of sacrifice. We know the one under Divine was meant to transfer her life force to power up the Orb I think... so I wonder what the others were used for.

Looking at that symbol, what strikes me is the style of it - the 'brush strokes', if you will. They look very similar to sections of Dirthamen's vallaslin, don't they? The fading, delicate lines and the dots etc. So possibly another worrying elven god symbol lying about. Or coincidence.

Okay, way off topic and late in responding, but how have I never seen these in game? Is this in the journal on the barrel outside of Sera's room in the pub? Cuz' during my PTs, it only has that list of things she needs, and never changes. Unless I just haven't found the right journal.

But these are so great. It's stuff like this why I ultimately adore Sera, despite all the things about her that drive me nuts. Sera, you silly little shite. Let's be friends forever, and stick it to the man.

So much pain.

tumblr_inline_nl69caRtar1rres0i.gif

I lol'd.

There's no pain a warm, delicious, crusty French baguette wont be able to solve.

I'm not sure whether the comedic redundancy of this sentence was intentional or not, but I love it. It's like a paradox or something. There's no bread a bread won't be able to solve.

Half-assed attempt to remedy OTness: I bet Solas would enjoy munching on a freshly baked baguette. *dusts off palms, satisfied*

That journal, yes. But it changes over time and things get added to it. Scroll down, perhaps?

As for Solas, well I love that Fade scene so much. He goes from awkward and infatuated to super intensely physical and passionate in a few seconds. Especially when you view it with flycam. Ugh, why are you such a heartbreaking egg?

As out of control as the Pantheon seems to have been, and the fact that they were all locked away (not just Falon'Din or Andruil), I think there is a good chance Sylaise might have been the type of goddess to demand sacrificial pyres.

Spoiler

Ooooohhh. I love this idea. It's making me imagine Sylaise as this outwardly calm, almost placid figure with something dangerously intense coiling beneath.

<snip>

As to why a Lavellan would help him...

The Dalish and city elves are going nowhere fast. They're hunted for sport by nobles, have no legal recourse, and either live in hiding in the woods or just above slavery in alienages. A Lavellan may or may not have just had her whole clan wiped out by a shem noble. The gods might be cruel tyrants and slavers, but Lavellan might see them caring for elves more than current human rulers. After all, Gaspard cares nothing for elves and Celene might just sacrifice another alienage to defend her standing in the game again. King Alistair (sorry bae) doesn't give the Dalish the land he promised and the Bann of the Alienage is killed. If Solas can convince her that releasing the gods will help her people (I personally don't believe that is his goal, but that's another issue), I can definitely see some Lavellans agreeing to help him.

Are they still, in modern Thedas? Is this speculation, or did you read it in a codex or some such? If so, I've completely missed this. Fascinating, and horrible. I could believe it.

I completely agree with the entirety of your post. Well said.

How did I not see this. I'm sure I've repeatedly scrolled, but to be sure I'll jump back into my PT tonight to double check. It seems like a strange thing to be bugged, if it's simply a case of me forgetting to scroll I'm gonna face palm so hard.

Too bad Solas doesn't keep a journal.

Yep, it's accurate. It was mentioned by Morrigan in the Temple of Mythal, I think.

The events of The Masked Empire would certainly also back up the condition elves live in and their relationship with nobility.

I know, especially Falon'Din.  I don't think anyone can put a positive spin on "the blood of those who wouldn't bow low filled lakes as wide as oceans".   There's a reason Fen'Harel imprisoned but did not kill Falon'Din:  "One does not lightly kill a god, Inquisitor.  Even in legend."  Now, June, I wouldn't mind, as I'm all about the crafting.  Dirthamen, only if he promised not to try to free his twin Falon'Din, but, then again, I don't know if I would trust him to keep that promise.  So, perhaps ixnay on the od-gay of ecrets-say.  As for Andruil, she sounds all kinds of crazy and perhaps would be best left where she is.  Ditto for Elgar'nan.  Ghilan'nain I'm still on the fence about, but Sylaise sounds like the kind of god who would fix you a cup of tea, or perhaps cocoa with lots of teeny-tiny marshmallows floating in it, and feed you sandwiches with the crusts cut off by the fireside.  I could easily worship a god like that.

 My guess from Solas's comments on the Qun is that Dirthamen used the Fade to spy on people and invade their thoughts, and Sylvaise's whole schtick in her song is that of a terrifyingly jealous and hubristic god that likes to burn things. Her worshipers seemed either terrified or like a rising Mean Girls character's entourage. Them and Falon'din are the ones I'd insist are staying away. From what we know, June, Elgar'nan (I like Cu Chulain and Elgie's rages remind me of the warp-spasm thing, plus being married to a very clever and snarky woman. We haven't given the poor man a chance!

It's a dialogue from Morrigan in the Temple of Mythal. Also, your clan being in the Free Marches? It was a strategic decision. Since Marcher Lords are all territorial, they wouldn't attack the clan for fear of provoking a neighboring lord. In this codex:

The Dalish aren't all cute and cuddely though:

"Dalish elves sometimes practice a savage game with human prisoners called "Fen'Harel's Teeth," wherein a prisoner's clothes are taken and their hands lashed together. The prisoner is given hard leather leggings with small nails driven into them to cause pain, and given a hundred-count head start before the clan gives chase." - dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Fen'Harel (This is apparantly mentioned in The Masked Empire? I haven't read it yet.)

I wonder how Solas would respond to an awful game invented with his name.

I think the writers learned their lesson from DAO- anything world changing isn't going to be optional, just look at how railroaded Hawke is in DA2. We might get to choose what to do with Solas after the fact but freeing the gods/rebooting the elves/brining down the veil or whatever is going to happen or not based on if it's something the writers want to incorporate into the world of Thedas.

If we get a choice then whatever it is will be hidden away in codex entries or a small sidequest.

Given that the Dalish got so much wrong (vallaslin!), perhaps relying upon the codices of the Elvhen pantheon is not ideal, but since it's the best we've got, let's run with it.  Did she destroy her monstrous creations at the behest of the the other gods, as legend states?  Did Pride (as in Solas) or personal pride stay her hand in destroying the creatures of the deep waters, who were so well-wrought?  If the codex is to be believed, then, no, destroying her creations was not inherently evil.  The entry implies that allowing them to run amok was the greater evil.

The Dalish Codex entries are the ones that paint her as being motherly and providing for the People with hearth and weaving and cooking. It's the actual Ancient Elf Codex entries from the Temple of Mythal that paint her as a terror. Since, y'know, they knew her, I think it's safe to say there's a lot more legitimacy to the vision we get of them from Solas and the Temple of Mythal Codex entries.

I love the sound of sea giants still hanging out down there. Powers Across the Sea? More like powers a few miles out from your shores, Antivan dogs.

Are you joining us on the Sera/Dagna ship?  It's filled with more awesome and less heartbreak than the Solasmance.

Oh who am I kidding.  I'm always going to love the Solasmance and its pain, heartbreak and sexy eggnerd.

I agree ... because the problem is then that in subsequent games you have to account for the various world states.  The Dark Ritual and resultant child *could* have had world altering ramifications except they made it optional.  Which really restricts what the writers can then do with OGB.  They'd almost have to make completely different games based on those drastic choices.  They kind of went too far with DA2 though.  Orsino living or dying really wouldn't have had much impact nor would Meredith living or dying.  They were important characters to DA2 but not necessarily the world as a whole.

I feel that DAI is the Bioware writers really trying to balance the 'world changing' with 'narrative'.   DAO had too many variables, DA2 just felt railroaded.  For all people complain about the lack of choice in DAI (which I think is rubbish.  Just because a game doesn't let you play as Evil McEvilson doesn't mean it lacks choice) I think it's getting the balance right at last.

Spoiler

Over the course of my existence in these forums I have spent countless minutes watching this damn gif, with no regrets. @_@

Surprised to state I've made a new observation: Solas has a nice neck. I want to nip his Adam's apple. And that ****** jaw. Hnnnng.

I am so there. But part of me is now jealous of Dagna, cuz' of my confused crush on Sera. I'll manage. I'll spend most part of my time on the Solavellan ship, and any remaining slivers of time on the Sergna ship. *hoists flag*
