Mine has the nightmares too, but Solas is nowhere to be found.  My interpretation of him leaving is that he's gone in every form, including the Fade, because he wouldn't be able to stop himself from coming back if he saw her in pain.  So she has to sort it out herself, with some help from Varric, Cole, and the Anchor.  It takes a while since my Lavellan isn't a mage, but she eventually trains herself to be lucid in the Fade.  She can't manipulate it like Solas or a mage, but she's at least aware that she's dreaming, and that goes a long way toward easing the nightmares.

Mm, yah. I like that quite a bit better than my own original head canon, to be honest. I don't like how dependent it makes my Lavellan on Solas. It's not really a healthy thing. I'd much rather have her stand on her own two feet and move past things on her own or with the aid of people who are actually there for her, then rely on a man or a relationship or the idea of a man to heal. It's one of those things that at first I thought was really romantic, but when I thought about it more critically, didn't appeal as much to me.

This has nothing to do with Solas...but Anders would approve

Today is also St. Gertrude's Day. The patron saint of cats.

Even though I only wrote it two weeks ago, it's not something I'd write now. I'm kind of tired of the 'Solas as a literal wolf' trope, so... my bad.

Meh, they can keep their bestiality. What bothers me is the AU professor solas or AU hipster solas. If dorian and vivianne's criticism is correct, Solas should be a smelly homeless hobo who was a foreign war veteran of a time nobody cares about anymore and taking Cake drugs that induces strong hallusinations and lucid dreams. If solas doesn't smell like he crapped his pants and sadsterbation, i'm disappointed in ALL OF YOU.

Why not both? Mess with perception! Encased in the shadows the wolf appears black, but then a beam of sunlight spears the darkness as the wolf runs, and for a moment as the lupine breaks through the light, the fur is revealed to be white all along, before once more disappearing back into the black.

I think it suits Solas's character. :>

I thought about writing this/drawing this but I'm in a writer's block right now and don't have the skill with colouring to properly draw it.

I really like that idea!  Helps to show both sides of the character in that sense, I'll try to work that in :P

Damn you, now you're making me reconsider my Epilogue Fade dream scene...Logically it would be hard for Solas to stay in her company like that, even at a distance.  I really like your interpretation though, interesting how you're mixing it up with a non-mage who can train herself :D

Further abuse of multi-quote incoming...

(In case anyone wasn't in pain today, here have a thing.)

Spoiler

I don't even care if you're about to shatter my heart into a million pieces, I'm so there. Let's go. (P.S. - Thanks for taking your shirt off. You didn't need it anyway.)

Spoiler

Here's a visual aid of said downward spiral.

Satan looks so intellectual, here. Am feeling confusing things about Satan. Wanna get some coffee and chat philosophy, Satan? This other dude dumped me, so...

Can step five be writing Slovellan stuff too? My creativity is really going for it lately, tragedy makes the best stories xD

I feel as if I'm now currently on step seven...I find myself fishing out my old fur waistcoat to wear, now all I need is that pretty jawbone necklace to try and emulate the look. Am I crazy? I think I may be...

It sure can! All aboard the train to cray-crayville.

I mean, if we're still riding the Solas/parallels to Milton's Satan train... Solas to Satan wouldn't be the worst relationship step. Just kind of a side step.

I don't like how dependent it makes my Lavellan on Solas.

I'm of two minds on this.  On one hand, Solas is the older, wiser, and more powerful of the two.  There's nothing wrong with Lavellan learning from him, and benefitting from his experience (IN THE BEDROOM AMIRITE).  On the other hand, she needs to be able to stand for herself after he's gone.  IMO for the relationship to ever be anything approaching healthy, his strength needs to complement hers and help her grow, rather than becoming a crutch for her.  This is especially true for muggle!Lavellan, who has no magical training and is likely more dependent on his expertise at the start.

Thanks!  I got the idea from lucid dreaming.  Dreaming is different in Dragon Age, but IRL people can train themselves to lucid dream.  And Solas himself says that the Anchor allows quizzy to dream with unusual clarity.  IMO it isn't that big of a leap for even a non-magical Inquisitor to exert some degree of control over their dreams.

Okay, so, apparently you're supposed to get a "Solas slightly approves" when you kill the demon controlling the wolf pack, but this is my 4th playthrough and I've never gotten it. Anyone else got it or have screenshots to show?

I get a "Solas approves" when I hand it in, which surprised me when I was first played through since it seemed over the top for a side quest that had nothing to do with him. I don't recall ever getting approval when you actually kill it though.

Right, I agree. I think there's guidance, and then there's the point where she can't function anymore without him. My Lavellan wasn't inherently magical either, so for me, parts of it crossed over too deeply into 'I NEED YOU TO LIVE VHEENNNAANNN.' I retconned my own earlier writing, haha, and now if I write them, I try to make it clear that their relationship is on even footing- perhaps even that she wears the pants in it, a bit.

I hear if you take Cole and Solas with you on this quest..they talk about it.  I have yet to do this, however.

I lol'd.  I'm in the tiny little naive corner where it's all cute and derpy romance, steamy yes, but no smut. But if I keep visiting this forum I'm sure I will slowly descend into the hellspiral...I'm not sure if I should be scared or not...

I do agree with you, it wouldn't do anyone any good if Lavellan was a crying, blubbering mess if Solas was gone.  He says himself "Indomitable spirit", she needs to learn to function on her own without him there.  My girl would miss his guidance (and Fade walk make-out sessions  ;) ) but she would need to think of the future and where the Inquisition needs to go, as well as herself.

Kind of like dealing with a break-up, IRL.  You pine for a little while, then you begin to move on.  That's why I'm preparing my feels for when we do Wolf Hunt, having everything she thought she'd dealt with being dragged back up once she sees him again :(

There is a teeny tiny bit of dialogue between them both, I think it's either when you first encounter the wolves, or when you complete the mission. I was pleasantly surprised, I love their banter :D

Right, in my headcanon, she feels his loss deeply and has a million questions, but she goes on, does the work that needs to be done. She's not really eating or sleeping much, at least at first, for a while. Dorian notices quickly and comes to sit and talk often, since he understands the pain of broken trust, and takes tea with her, making sure she eats at least. But he mostly listens as she talks and is there for her. I feel like Dorian became her best friend. Cassandra tries, but helps when she's focused on sparring and such. Leliana also kind of does things to help. She keeps sending out people to look and does it for her, even though both of them know nothing will turn up.

She turns to friends and yet still continues working toward things even while dealing with the pain. She worries about all sorts of things, like what her clan will think now that she no longer has her vallaslin. She thought she and Solas might go to them together someday (something about her going back alone I am planning to write).

But she's strong. She is defined by much more, even while she still has this broken heart.

Oh man, I completely forgot about that!  My headcanon (and playthrough) has her clan in Wycome as part of the council.  I dread to think what would happen if she showed up with no vallaslin...

I don't know what it says about me but I never thought this was some chaste sort of romance. Especially with her making the first real move and him being so physical. Especially given the timeline of the game takes place over like, a year.  I can understand how asexuals might headcanon it that way (same as Josephine's romance), and respect that (I have asexual friends), but to me...nope.

The body language shift over time also says to me that there's a lot of physical intimacy (which can, yes, happen without sex - my ace friends are all about the cuddling)  between them. From the first Fade scene they're apart then everything happens. Second scene, she grabs him and then they're all over one another. Balcony at the palace, his hand is on her back....that's not someone unfamiliar with her body, IMO.

And final scene of course he's pretty much constantly touching her (as verified by flycam). Even the vallaslin removal is super intimate, IMO.

I may have watched and/or overanalyzed all of this entirely too much.

I've been coming up with partial scenarios that I have yet to link together, but in my head she has younger siblings and meets with her sister first and deals with her reaction (which isn't good) before moving onto Wycome. But overall, there's a lot of superstition and disbelief and rumor. Some think she's been taken over or gone mad or something. There might be a request to reapply it, which she refuses.

Still working this out.

I fully maintain my Lavellan's response would be, "no sh**, there I was in the Temple of Mythal..."

Hey, you don't run around with Varric for a couple of years and not learn how to spin a good tale.
