A few pages late but... Shhhhhhhh...  In all seriousness though, I'd love to hear why you've come to that conclusion though. I'm interested.

 

If I'm entirely honest, if I would describe Garrus's romance in not-so-kind terms, I would say it's lacking rather than overrated. We get nothing in ME1, of course, ME2 we get nothing until the end, where we get a sort of awkward headbump (the idea was cute, the execution was clunky), and in ME3 we don't really get any unique scenes. The Citadel date happens with Bro-Garrus (mandate! ), and the kiss-phase they were into I found weird (turians don't have lips like we do, that's weird).

 

Still, despite that, he's my favourite romance. Kaidan's annoying, Thane dies, and Jacob cheats. Liara I can't dig at all, I don't know why. I've promised my sister I would romance her if she romances Garrus, but I can't keep my attention on the game when I try. ;_;

Interesting. I never romanced Garrus in ME as I always saw him as my bro. (Best space bro ever, I may add.) Kaidan may be boring but I stayed loyal to his romance, even though he did annoy me a bit at the beginning of ME3 (For good reasons though. Can't really blame him.). Plus, I did get fuzzy feelings by the end. ;__; However, not gonna lie, I so badly wanted to bone James Vega. It drove me nuts.   (Yes, you could have a one night stand with him in the Citadel DLC but that's not the point.) If Vega was an actual LI, I might have ditched Kaidan for him.

 

Also, consider all those limericks liked since I'm out of likes at the moment.

We have so many hellspirals,

The only thing I really liked about the Garrus romance was that tango scene.  I loved that, but Kaidan will always be my favorite.  I fell in love with him in the first game and was so sad in ME2. I know a lot of people don't like Kaidan, and that makes me sad.  

 

Romanced Thane in ME2 which was cute, but sad since he dies in ME3...but I went back to Kaidan so it wasn't too sad for me. That extra stuff in Citadel was heartbreaking though.

 

But yeah, I always think of Garrus as being more by beast friend, plus I love that he and Tali get together.

 

 

Edit:  Sure is a lot of sadness in this post.

I think it's because it was lacking that it's overrated, I guess. What I mean by overrated is that I no longer understand why people go so nuts over it and act like it's the best romance to ever grace video gaming. Or even the best BioWare romance. I used to love his romance but now I find myself shrugging and being a little "meh". It was barely anything in ME2 and is somewhat saved by ME3 but half of it was in the Citadel DLC. Plus I wasn't getting the vibe of super duper love that people always talk about when comparing other romances to the Garrus romance. It was pretty chill, honestly. Like bros that decided to become dating bros. The only heavy moments were right at the final battle.

 

I don't think Garrus as a character is overrated, but I think his romance most definitely is! Don't get me wrong, his romance is super cute and sweet and he's still my canon romance for my Shepard. This is just my opinion after going years without playing the series and is in no way law. 

 

On topic, my only ships for DAI involve Solas. He's become my "shipping bicycle", so to speak. But that's always the case with my favorite character in anything. 

 

I don't ship my Lavellan with anyone else, though, so there are no other hellspirals there. If Solas hadn't been an option, my canon Inquisitor would have romanced nobody.  Actually, I didn't really hellspiral with Solavellan either. I got lucky in that I knew the dealio long before I reached the endio of the gamio so the depression period never happened. I was more upset at the "Solas is Fen'Harel" reveal (which I knew before I really started playing because I'm a spoiler ho) than knowing that the romance never really goes anywhere. 

 

Also, someone has figured out the S.O.L.A.S system! I remember referencing Always Sunny a while back and I'm so glad someone did this!

For now, though, it's the best. x)  If I'm honest, I thought they went overboard in terms of the romance in the Citadel DLC (not that I didn't completely lap it up xD totes loved it), like "Yes, Garrus, I get it, your my BF/F, chill the **** out. And the rest of you!"  But that was the DLC for you. x)

A Citadel-style DLC for DA would be amazing, but it doesn't quite work the same since you have multiple protagonists and mostly different companions. But working with everyone? Amazing. It was fun when Cullen joined you to go after Samson. Stuff like that should happen more.

 

However the final banquet scene was a little reminiscent of Citadel to me.
